Is it illegal to print out WayMaps?

We used to use Ordnance Survey OpenSpace (and still do on maps.the-hug.net but only until August as OS are taking it offline) and their view there is that they were happy for you to print maps but I think (it's been a while since I looked at this) they had some "restriction" about no more than ten copies. This was all pretty arbitrary and we weren't expected to police it in the app (as we couldn't anyway).

Currently on WalkLakes we get our OS tiles via Bing and I've not seen anything there but I suspect their thinking is the same. So it can be summed up as "yeah, you can print, but don't take the piss".

... and that's pretty much where we are with WayMaps too, which is our own product. We've no problem with you printing a map for your own use (and indeed we do just that when we go out walking somewhere new) but we would object to someone making lots of copies, and especially to someone using WayMaps in their publication, e.g. a magazine or a printed leaflet, not least because that's an income source for us and we do license the use of our tiles in some publications (and on other web sites).

Thanks for the info. I'm only interested in backup map printouts for personal use on a walk.

I would expect OS copyright to apply to the OS mapping wherever the tiles come from and happy to hear you're OK with personal use printouts of WayMaps. They are very good
