Green Circle with

Can anyone help with the symbol on the OS map when zoomed out. It's a green circle with a line, like a frying pan or ♂ without the arrow head at the top. I can't find any info. The zoom level is the level coming out just after 1:50000 Thanks in advance. Steve

Yes, they're distance markers for road travel on major routes.

So, for example there's one on the roundabout just west of Cockermouth and one for roundabout on the north side of Keswick. If you look along the A66 road joining the two together you'll see a '14' in green about halfway along which I'm pointing to in the screenshot:

That's the distance, in miles, between those two points.
