Has a beautiful view and all the amenities a self catering accommodation would need. It is easy to find in a very quiet spot. Bedrooms were big and slept very well. Shower needs replacing, but this did not bother the two of us. Would happily stay again, and being dog friendly was a big plus.

The owner lives upstairs and was the best host. He gave us lots of great advice and recommendations on where to visit and where to eat. He made best pals with our two westies who were also big fans of the owner. The property itself was immaculate and had everything you could ask for. Would highly recommend for a visit.

There are plenty of local mountain and woodland walks and it is well connected for travelling to other areas of Western Scotland. My only regret was that I did not take my binoculars to watch the birdlife on the Loch.

  • "The owner was very attentive and helpful from the start to the end of our booking and visit."

He was really welcoming on our arrival showing us around and running through the property amenities. Extra touches such as providing hand sanitizer, plentiful hand wash at all the sinks (and offered face masks if we needed additional ones to our own). Amazing views and trails from the property without the need to take the car. "The Cobbler" was amazing to hike up. We visited many of the restaurants, pubs, takeaways are all within a 2 to 20 minute, walking distance providing a great variety of food choices and value. (Which David the owner was able to recommend). It was handy having a Village Shop which so close by as we arrived late and realized "yes...I forgot the teabags!". Cairn View had a wonderful Lochside garden (all enclosed) enabling our dog to roam freely which was a massive bonus for us as she still liked to explore in the garden even after a hike up "The Cobbler". David provided a dog blanket (we had taken our own dog towels and blanket too). Wonderful stay and look forward to returning. Thank you.

  • "Cairn View is a great place to spend some quality holiday time."

To beat the English 'lockdown' we travelled the day before Wed 5th Nov) but it meant I had to work for a few days. Luckily the broadband offered at the apartment was stable and good enough for me to work and attend virtual conferences etc. David the owner lives upstairs but is non intrusive - he is however very knowledgeable about the area (this has been mentioned in plenty of reviews) and very pleasant to chat with, we both liked him a lot! The apartment itself is deceptively spacious - almost excessively so. The living and cooking area is fine - perhaps slightly dated but this did not bother us at all. All of the apartment windows look out onto Lock Long and the mountains across the Lock - absolutely stunning views. Lots of local walks - both easy and challenging and with Loch Lomond 10 mins away I can't see anyone running out of things to do here. Lots of towns and places to visit in easy car journey reach. The road outside is very busy but from within the apartment you do not hear or notice it much. Cairn View will definitely be somewhere myself and my wife (and the dog!) visit again.

The only small niggle , and I say this because part of my job is selling beds, is that the double mattress is on the wrong bed frame. The mattresses are memory foam and should be on a slat or hard top bed frame with slats no more than 3 inches gap. The one here had 5 inch gap on metal bar frame so the mattress had a tendency to push through the gap and you could feel the bars, i just changed to another bed and it didn't detract from my holiday.

Superb views over the loch up to The Cobbler. Well equipped and with comfortable furniture. Owner is very helpful too and also provided secure cycle storage (which I think needs adding to the listing?). • "The owner David who stayed upstairs was very knowledgeable about the surrounding area."

The negatives absolutely no occasional tables in the living room or side lights. Either the main overhead bright lights on or sitting in darkness. No cupboards to accommodate any food stuffs which had to be stored on work tops. All glassware where plastic etc: Tumblers, Wine glasses. Due to price this was not the standard we have normally found with Sykes Cottages which are normally very high standard and the cost for the weekend was extremely high. This accommodation is not a cottage and this has been misrepresented it is actually a ground floor flat of very basic standard really aimed at workmen and not families. The accommodation had 3 x bedrooms and siting room which all had individual locks the rooms all had small sinks in each one. The shower room had a small toilet and small sink which we struggled to wash in. There was second toilet again with a small sink. There was one light in the hallway but was at the bottom of the property. This property is better described as individual boarding rooms and not holiday accommodation. Once again the owner was very pleasant and knowledgeable but the property was total let down and so disappointing as this was our first experience of being away at New Year.

Extremely well laid out house, Wonderful kitchen, very well equipped. Beds comfortable. Everything immaculate; it all seemed new. Balcony and garden very nice too, although just a little too cool to lounge around on for long (we were there in the middle of May). Good walks right outside the door. The only problem was that there's too much to do in the area, so we couldn't spend as much time in the house as we'd have liked. Problem solved though: We have reserved two weeks for 2018.

About the location

ARROCHAR

Helensburgh 15 miles.

The village of Arrochar lies at the head of Loch Long, the most northerly point in the network of lochs that extend north from the Clyde Estuary. Surrounded by mountains, the area has become a focal point for climbers wishing to climb Ben Arthur, affectionately known as the Cobbler and other popular mountains in the immediate area, which all lie within the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. Arrochar itself offers a large selection of shops, restaurants and pubs and is situated just a mile and a half to the west of the Loch Lomondside village of Tarbet, with both villages sharing a railway station that lies near the high point of the valley connecting the two. Loch Lomond, the single biggest expanse of inland water in Britain offers a variety of activities. Enjoy a gentle stroll through the Balloch Castle Country Park or the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, which will guide you past attractive lochside villages and sandy bays, or, for the more adventurous, the mountains offer challenging walks and climbs. For a family day out the nearby town of Helensburgh, with its broad avenues, is well worth a visit.
