  • "We loved Bryn Re!"

We stayed for two weeks (with very unsettled weather). The location is fabulous - very remote and very peaceful, with glorious views to the south of Cadair Idris and the Rhinog mountains to the west. We were entertained each evening by a curlew flying around the house and even landing on a nearby fence post. Also the sound of sheep is about as noisy as it gets. Located at the end of a long (1/2 mile?) private drive the cottage is very remote and has lots of rustic charm. It is well furnished, with comfortable reclining chairs and sofa from which to enjoy the log burner (plenty of logs included by the owners). The kitchen and utility room has everything you’d need. We met both the owners who were very friendly and welcoming - nothing is too much trouble it seems. On arrival we found a welcome pack of essential supplies (enough tea, coffee and milk for the first evening) including delicious Welsh cakes and Bara Brith. If you enjoy a quiet stroll to the pub in the evening this is not the cottage to choose! But for relaxing, and peace and quiet, it’s wonderful. There is good hill walking nearby - Cadair Idris is only half and hour away. Good beaches too at Porthmadog and Harlech (only half an hour) and highly recommend a visit to Corris Slate Mine (also only about half an hour away). Thank you to the owners, Gwyn and Buddog, for making your lovely cottage available.

As farm to farm, we could not have felt more at home. The cottage was clean, tidy and catered for all that we needed. The owners very friendly. The only neighbours we had around us were the ewes with their lambs. Stunning views all around the property, spacious and comfortable. Thank you so very much for a fantastic week. There is so much to do around the local area. The Zip line in Penrhyn, a day out on Anglesey. Would recommend to those who love being in the countryside and around wildlife.

A real sense of remoteness without being too far away from Dolgellau. Good walking from the door, would also be good for mountain biking. If anything, it was even nicer than the pictures. Owners friendly and helpful too.

This cottage is really lovely warm and cosy and we will be hopefully going again next year. There’s everything you need here, if you want to get away from it all, seclusion and peace then this is the place to go. The only one thing we could say was annoying was a squeaky mattress on the super king but other wise it was excellent. Thanking you for the lovely welcome pack them type of things really go down well and was very much appreciated. Lovely K&D Willerby Hull

  • "Bryn Re is a lovely cottage in a perfect location."

The views are outstanding from every window. The cottage is very well furnished, comfortable beds and recliner chairs in the living room make for a really relaxing stay. The kitchen is extremely well equipped, probably the best of any of the many cottages we have stayed in, and it is such a pleasure to cook while looking out at the mountains. Having the covered area with table and chairs as well as the patio furniture was perfect as we had quite a lot of rain, so we were still able to sit outside whatever the weather. This also made unpacking the car so much easier in bad weather. The sheep were a constant amusement - especially the tups trying to prove who was strongest. I would highly recommend this wonderful cottage and hope we will be able to return before too long.

Exceptionally beautiful surroundings, really quiet except for the sheep and cattle (we really liked our fourlegged neighbours), views of mountains 360° around. Cakes, tea and milk to welcome us, so sweet. Owners are really friendly. Cottage was pretty, everything we needed was there. Water pressure in shower very poor; couldn't possibly have washed my long hairs there, and bath doesn't have a shower head. Only stayed for a few days instead of our planned two weeks due to coronavirus regulations getting stricter. Hope to return one day. Area seems very pretty.

It was clear that owner had thought carefully about making house Covid-safe. We loved the location but realise that not everyone likes to be so isolated. Generous amount of fuel included so we used the wood burner every evening- lovely and cosy. The only thing that would make it even better is if local footpaths around the house were clearly signed with gates that could be opened easily. They are shown on map but following them on the ground is a bit harder. Realise this may not be something that the owner can sort. Thank you we had a fabulous week.

The location is perfect and Mount Snowdon was easily accessible. The cottage has plenty of space and the hosts left us treats and milk for our arrival. The fire was so cosy in this weather. The kids loved the house, plenty of toys and places to play hide and seek. The WiFi is Good! Caught a sunset one evening, the views are stunning. We will definitely return in the summer as the outside area looked like a sun trap. Thanks for a lovely stay. The Farrar’s X

  • "Cottage : loo roll holders kept falling off ."

Grounds : This is a working sheep farm. Where ever sheep can access there is sheep poo on the ground. There is a sign in the cottage asking residents to remove shoes before walking on carpets because of this. You have to get out of the car (watch where you tread) to open and then close at least 2 gates before getting to the road. (For us there were 3 gates on Friday and Saturday). For less abled people this could be difficult as catches were quite stiff. We think there should be a warning about this for potential hirers. The views however were stunning, with meadow pipits during the day and bats in the evening all around the cottage.

  • "A good centre for exploring the Snowdonia National Park, both the mountains and the coastline."

We did meet the owners more by luck than anything else and they are very friendly and helpful. They do not live close by though, and are living about 5 miles away. The Cottage is therefore very remote, which in our case was fine. We loved the surrounding scenery. I would suggest that perhaps there could be a bit more information left in the cottage other than just the glossy pamphlets. Something on where best to walk, and on where to go to eat locally would be helpful. Broadband and phone signals worked OK though download speeds are not great as you might expect so far away from any fibre connectivity. No problem with web sites for places of interest or with email. The little track from the main road is fine for ordinary cars, and not difficult to spot once you have done it once or twice. Great for star gazing as no light pollution at all. Could clearly see the Milky Way. We loved this part of Wales and our stay in Bryn Re.

My advise is, first time arriving try and get there in the daylight!). The cottage was very clean and very comfortable. Our hosts were great and very welcoming; lighting the log burner prior to use arriving to give a cosy warm house to walk into (and providing some delicious cakes to welcome us). The cottage was very warm with the central heating (without lighting the log burner). The cottage is very well provisioned with a very comprehensive kitchen, utility room and board games in the living room etc. There is plenty of wood for the log burner for multiple days of use. All round, a great place with great hosts. I would definitely return.

The kitchen was modern and had everything we needed, far more than just a basic set of pans! There was a big cupboard full of toys, games and puzzles, which was brilliant to have on hand for a 2 year old. There was ample firewood to warm things up on an evening and having it all undercover directly from the house was really helpful. When we arrived there was fresh milk (from the farm) and homemade cake provided, which was such a nice touch and the owners were very friendly indeed! The only point I would say is that some form of sign or more easily visible landmark would have been good from the main road to find the top entrance. Anything distinctive from a distance would have helped a great deal upon arrival. Really lovely and memorable holiday for us, thank you so much!
