  • "We stayed over Christmas ,the cottage was warm and comfortable the bed was very comfortable , every thing we needed in the Kitchen with plenty of space for us to put our provisions."

Spotlessly clean all through. Unfortunately we had two big storms during our stay, major wind and lots of rain, but it did make the waterfalls spectacular. We love the Dales and have spent a lot of time visiting over the years, the weather has not put us off and we will be back.

  • "The cleanliness was okay however the bathroom light fitting was covered in dust."

No idea how but one morning despite the window being shut and door the bathroom had 6 flies in. We did notice quite a few flies but put it down to the fact all windows were open on arrival. However after killing all the ones we found and shutting all windows they were still getting in. Very well equipped and also they left cleaning products so we could give it a good clean before we left. We liked the fact it had a washer and dryer although we did not use it is handy to go home with clean clothes. Parking we found was difficult as there was a very large vehicle and it made it difficult to manoeuvre our car. By the end of the week it was parked at the entrance drive so at least gave us more room. Heating is quite slow with storage heaters. Never come across them before and found that you had to leave them on 24/7 and even then I could sit my hand on the top despite it being on full. Over pleasant stay and would recommend. I would also like to thank the owners for their instruction booklet as I had never used an induction hob before.

The Wheatsheaf Inn in Carperby village proved a great place for food and drink. There are easy walks from the cottage door to Aysgarth Falls and Castle Bolton and for more dales walking, it is only a short drive out to Hawes and Buckden. A lovely time was had by all.

  • "Barnbrook is a gem of a cottage."

It is part of a small group of barn conversions, whose configuration allows privacy and spacious accommodation. Both the good-sized living room and the large dining kitchen are comfortable and well-equipped; the utility room is useful and there is clothes-hanging space in the little garden. The downstairs loo is invaluable. Upstairs there are two large bedrooms with a very comfy double bed and plenty of wardrobe hanging space. The bathroom has a small cabinet to keep razors and toothbrushes away from the washbasin, and there is a screened and adjustable-headed shower over the bath. Outside is ample parking for two cars, and down a few steps is a sweet little garden with table and chairs. At the end of the drive is Carperby, with a great pub (the Wheatsheaf) and easy walks to Aysgarth Falls and Bolton Castle, or through the woods to Woodhall and back over the moor. A memorable feature of Barnbrook is that everything is so spotlessly clean, and the huge store of dvds, games and guidebooks shows that the owner is determined to go the extra mile. This is our second visit, and we very much look forward to a third!

Thanks for this lovely feedback. We're very pleased that you liked everything. Do come again! Property Owner

The kitchen is large and has everything you need, including a good-sized fridge-freezer and a proper dining table for four. • "Lovely, clean and spacious accommodation - much bigger than we had expected."

Every little detail was thought about, including all utensils, hand soaps, toilet rolls, kitchen rolls and washing up items. So many walks straight from the doorstep, which is exactly what we were looking for - fresh air, scenery, and time away from the everyday routine. Also a fantastic children's playground just down the road. Just a few minor things that perhaps could improve the stay: 1. The 'Barnbrook' sign outside the cottage isn't very clear so we didn't realise (after initially getting a little lost) that we were parked right outside it. 2. The cottage is very child friendly and spacious for a toddler who has just learned to walk and has a highchair and travel cot too - perhaps one improvement could be to include a stairgate so those with babies / toddlers have the option of using it and those who don't can just leave the stairgate open. 3. The floorboards upstairs are very creaky - maybe this could be looked at and fixed. 4. One of the beds in the double room is in a bit of an awkward position as the person sleeping it was constantly banging their head off the ceiling - maybe the positioning of the furniture could be changed in that room. It was been an absolutely lovely break and we would love to book again as there is so much more we are yet to explore! Thank you for an enjoyable stay.

Beds very comfy, with linen, towels and tea towels all supplied, premises very clean, parking directly outside. Village very cute, with the Wheatsheaf pub over the road very welcoming & family friendly for food & drinks. Aysgarth Falls Hotel also very nice for an evening meal. Would recommend a supermarket delivery or plan food accordingly as no shops in the village, however on arrival we we welcomed with milk in the fridge and Yorkshire Tea bags which was much needed after our journey to Carperby. • "We stayed for two weeks in this lovely cottage, and found it to be beautifuly clean, very spacious and welcoming, and had absolutely everything one could possibly want or need for a very comfortable stay."

Having said that, the only drawback (for me personally) was the memory foam mattress on the double bed, which unfortunately holds the body heat to the extreme, making for a very uncomfortable nights' sleep, so mostly had to sleep in the single bed. The other point which kind of annoyed me was that upon enquiring from the caretaker, who conveniently lives next door, if she'd be coming in to change the bedding for the 2nd week, I was told where to find the clean linen and that I had to do it myself. We stay for 2 weeks every year in various Dales cottages, and is the first time that I've encountered this...When you consider that payment for the 2nd weeks' stay in the cottage is EXACTLY the same as for the 1st, I'd have thought, and naturaly assumed, that the cleaning service for the 2nd week would be a 'given'. Apart from those couple of things, we had a lovely holiday staying in this particular cottage. The location is perfect, with lots of walks from the door to be had, including a lovely varied walk to Bolton Castle, plus the convenience of The Wheatsheaf pub, serving vey nice meals, literally just over the road. We'd be more than happy to consider staying again, if a 2nd choice was needed, as it's certainly a gem of a cottage, apart from those two niggles...however, they are personal to us and may not concern anyone else, so with this in mind, we can highly recommend Barnbrook Cottage as an ideal base from which to have a very enjoyable holiday.

About the location

CARPERBY

Aysgarth 1.6 mile; Castle Bolton 3.2 miles; Leyburn 8.3 miles.

This idyllic Wensleydale village is situated in a walker’s paradise, close to Castle Bolton, Bolton Hall, Leyburn and the famous Aysgarth Falls. During the 17th century, Carperby was an important centre for Quakerism and the largest building today is the classically styled Friends Meeting House which overlooks the market cross and village green. The popular village pub serves good food and an excellent range of real ales and is the main focal point of village life. Nearby, Redmire is on the Wensleydale Railway, which features steam locomotives during the summer and has regular special events. This is an ideal location for walking and touring the many attractions of Wensleydale and Swaledale - nearby are the historic Richmond and Middleham, as well as the attractive market towns of Bedale and Leyburn. There are numerous restaurants and award-winning pubs too, and nearby attractions include Fountains Abbey, Wensleydale Creamery and Rope Factory and the thrilling Lightwater Valley. The nearest town, Leyburn, is dominated by its large market square, which still boasts a lively Friday market. The town has much to offer with its many craft shops, galleries and tea rooms. Also within easy reach are many other attractions, notably the Constable Burton Hall and Gardens with extensive parkland and woodland walks, the Forbidden Corner with its underground passages to explore, and of course the lovely Georgian town of Richmond with its fine castle ruins. Visit Bolton Castle, with its mighty towers and rectangular courtyard, one of the finest preserved medieval castles in Yorkshire. Dating back to 1378, much of the castle survived the orders to destroy famous Yorkshire castles, issued by Parliament in The Civil War. It is also located perfectly for cycling; the famous opening stages of the 2014 Tour de France passed just over a mile away. For the adventurous, mountain biking routes run from the door, over Preston moor and into wild Swaledale.
