  • "Had a lovely week at Pembroke Cottage."

Great location with beautiful views plus weather was excellent. Only negative, however, a major one was our dogs being attacked by the black Patterdale dog who lives in the house on site. Our dogs were on leads, as stated in the agreement of rental, due to this being a working farm. We adhered to this at all times. This dog was roaming free in the morning and just started biting our dogs and wouldn't give up. Eventually the owner came and got it. Hopefully the dog will be locked up or muzzled at all times so no one else has this trauma. Great holiday marred by dog's owner not following farm rules!!!

  • "Great location."

Very welcoming. Comfortable facilities Cakes on arrival and fresh eggs each morning, delicious. I booked through booking.com which seemed to hamper communication by e mail between myself and Sykes, however phone conversations were always polite and any issues raised were dealt with quickly. I would love to visit again xx

  • "Beautiful cottage on a delightful working farm."

The living space was upstairs, offering fantastic views across the Lake district. The cottage was well decorated and well appointed too, although a little chilly at night with the storage heaters. However, lots of bedding was supplied which just made it all the more cosy. Would really recommend this clean let - ample parking and easy to find too. Owners seemed very friendly, all in all, a fantastic week was had cycling and hiking in the local area.

About the location

BASSENTHWAITE

Keswick 8 miles; Cockermouth 9 miles.

An attractive village in the Northern Lakes, Bassenthwaite lies just a short distance to the north east of Bassenthwaite Lake, and retains its traditional rural feel, with a stream flowing gently on the outskirts, whitewashed Lakeland cottages, a pleasant vllage green and a real ale inn full of character! Bassenthwaite Lake itself, while boasting gentler scenery than others in the region, is still one of the most picturesque places in England. Places of interest nearby include Mirehouse, a grand house and gardens on the shores of the Lake with small open-air theatre (reputedly frequented by poets such as Tennyson and Wordsworth), Lake District Wildlife Park, and Dodd Wood. Most of the attractions of the Lake District are within easy reach and the quieter Northern Fells are almost on the doorstep. The nearby towns of Cockermouth and Keswick, both have weekly markets and offer a good range of amenities. The scenery of the Yorkshire Dales is within touring distance, as is the city of Carlisle and Hadrians Wall country.
