  • "It’s was a lovely cottage & suited our need for exploring wales."

If u don’t like single track roads I suggest u start all your journeys from Chirk as suggested in the property details from Mrs Seddon it was invaluable. The house was clean & warm & had everything we needed to prepare meals. Two pubs in the village. We went in the hand on the Friday we arrived for a drink & enquired about booking a table for the Saturday but was not given an answer. So we had our drink & left. We also went to the west arms & was treated very differently needless to say we ate at the west arms & had a lovely meal in a good atmosphere.

  • "The owner, Rosemary, is very good with communication the week before your stay."

I would definitely say follow her directions so that you arrive at the cottage via Chirk, as the road is so much better. Even if you have to travel 10 minutes out of your way to do so. On arrival we had to knock on the neighbour's door and ask them to move from the dedicated parking spot for the cottage.... not a great start. (Even though Rosemary said this might happen.) When entering the property there was an overwhelming smell of cigarettes. The property is advertised as non-smoking. We had to go out and buy air freshener to try and get rid of it. The bed that we slept in was very comfortable, and the room is very quiet, even though it faces out onto the lane, which can get very busy with vehicles racing up it. Be careful when stepping out of the door. You will need to keep your wits about you. For us, the property was centrally located for the area that we wanted to see. And if you get the chance, go and eat at 'The Swan ' fantastic food but be warned you will need to be starving when you go as the portions are immense!! 'The Raven' at Welshpool is also very good. Once again on our penultimate day, there was problems with parking. After a long day out and about the last thing you want to be doing is walking around the village trying to find the owner, who was subsequently sitting in the pub, and was too drunk to move his vehicle, so the landlord had to move it for him. Not only this, but at 1am they decide to start shouting about and using the hot tub. (Obviously another holiday let next door) For us, it put a bit of a dampener on our 'relaxing' week, but overall, it was ok. We did bump into a chap who was mowing the lawns who was very understanding to our parking plight, and we did have a laugh. A very nice local!

Thankyou for your feedback. I'm sorry to hear that you had problems with inconsiderate guests in the holiday cottage next door. I have contacted the owner and asked her to remind her guests not to use Minffordd's parking space and to be considerate if using their hot tub late at night. Like all Sykes properties, Minffordd is non-smoking and notices are displayed in the cottage. Unfortunately some previous guests ignored this guidance. I do apologise that you were affected by this. My cleaner has done her very best to freshen up the cottage for future guests. Rosemary Property Owner

  • "Minfordd is a great place to stay (and we've stayed in some that weren't, so know the pitfalls)."

Llanarmon is a quiet village and in the middle of nowhere but with 2 good pubs, friendly locals and good walking opportunities. The cottage itself is clean, well-equipped and comfortable. The owner is caring and makes contact before and during the stay to ensure everything is OK. I would definitely recommend this as a place to recharge the batteries.

Thank you so much for your feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay at Minffordd. Update: From late June our guests have use of our newly acquired lawned garden just a few steps down the lane. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful cottage in a lovely village."

Owner keeps you informed with regular contact prior to the holiday and very quick to respond to any contact. Lots of interesting attractions within easy travelling distance. Two very good pubs within 100 yards, but would recommend booking ahead if you want to eat at either as they get very busy.

  • "Property is in a beautiful location lovely quiet village with 2 great pubs."

Cottage was comfortable and good facilities the bathroom and kitchen could do with a deep clean, and the outside windows. I wouldn’t recommend this property for children it has no garden and it is directly on the road. Once your in the property there is no outdoor space. I think this needs to be updated on description because picture 17 shows a fenced cottage we where disappointed on arrival.

Thank you for your feedback. I am sorry that you thought there was a garden as there is not one listed with this property. The view you could see of the fenced lawn does not belong to Minffordd but can be seen in the side shot of the property. We will get this removed in case of any further confusion but there was no garden in the description when you booked. The owner and cleaner take great pride in the property and cleanliness as always reflected in their very positive feedback so they were surprised by your comments. The window cleaner is scheduled to visit again soon but sorry if there was any build up on the windows. We do hope you enjoyed your holiday otherwise. Property Owner

  • "Minffordd cottage was a delight to stay in, we had everything we needed in the property itself and the owners of the nearby The Hand pub were very nice and helpful."

We did have one day after a drive out where we were close to running out of petrol and the nearest petrol station was a 20-minute drive away, so I'd say just be careful to make sure you keep topped up for those hilly roads. The guest information in the cottage was really good and as a family of 5 with children aged from 13 down to 7, the sunny day spent at nearby Llangollen was delightful. I couldn't recommend Minffordd highly enough; thank you for a great stay.

  • "We enjoyed our stay at Minffordd."

The location was in a stunning valley and there were plenty of walks from the property if you didn't feel like driving every day. There were maps and walking guides with helpful advice in the cottage and it was a very comfortable, well equipped property to return to at the end of each day. The two pubs in the village were both good and we also ventured further afield to visit Lake Vyrnwy and the canal aqueducts and castle at Chirk. Altogether a beautiful part of Wales which we hadn't previously visited.

  • "It was so good to come back to this comfortable house after a day's walking."

Llanarmon is an ideal base for varied walks. Good food to be had at both The Hand and the West Arms in Llanarmon but also Asda and Sainsbury's will deliver! All fittings and furniture in Minffordd are good quality and it was great to have a warm cupboard for drying waterproofs that got wet on the one day we had rain. The very helpful owner soon rang us about a query we had on arrival even thought the problem turned out to be of our own making!! Thank you.

About the location

LLANARMON DYFFRYN CEIRIOG

Llangollen 9 miles; Oswestry 10 miles; Shrewsbury 27.5 miles.

Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog is a small Welsh village located at the foothills of the Berwyn Mountains in the Ceiriog Valley, between Oswestry and Llangollen. A former stopping point for Drovers, the village still retains its two original pubs, both renowned for excellent food and one now offering spa treatments. The village church is reputed to date back to the 5th century with Bronze Age remnants identifiable. The area is surrounded by unspoilt walking trails with the nearby village of Glyn Ceiriog being the main village in the picturesque Ceiriog Valley in Wrexham County, North Wales. This beautiful valley, described by Lloyd George as 'a little piece of heaven on earth’, offers a wealth of opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors, from walking and fishing to horse riding and cycling. Formerly the centre of the slate mining industry in the valley, Glyn Ceiriog is located three miles south of Llangollen and offers a good range of local amenities, including two village pubs, a Post Office containing tourist information and a cafe, a well-stocked village store and a community sports centre, offering a range of activities including bicycle hire, tennis, indoor bowls and table tennis. Nearby, you will find a wide array of attractions, with the dramatic World Heritage Site of the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct well worth a visit. Set alongside the boulder-strewn River Dee, why not visit the popular town of Llangollen, famous for the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod? Offering a good range of pubs and restaurants, as well as many interesting shops, the town also boasts a dramatic mountain backdrop. Explore the Dee Valley by steam train or canal boat, or take an exhilarating walk up to Castell Dinas Brân, high above the town to enjoy the breathtaking view! The National Trust properties of Chirk Castle and Erddig are both within easy driving distance, while a day-long car trip can take you to visit six of the Seven Wonders of Wales. Enjoy a visit to the Old Hill Fort at Oswestry, scenic walking on Offa’s Dyke Path, along the crest of the Clwydian Hills, or access the national rail network to explore the Roman city of Chester, Shrewsbury and beyond. This is a wonderful base for exploring this beautiful region all year round.
