  • "A very comfortable and spacious cottage, within a fantastic location."

We visited Ulverston, Bardsea and Coniston which are all within 10-20min drive from the property. Both pubs nearby were warm and welcoming. We definitely will be booking again!

Thank you for your lovely feedback. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay in our cottage and exploring the local area. We hope we can welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

Settees are truly comfortable after a day out and the kitchen is well equipped and very spacious for food preparation. Also, there is plenty of space for coats and walking boots etc by both the front and back doors. The bed is also very comfortable and there is a powerful shower in the en-suite. We would definitely return to Laurel Cottage!

  • "As we always put ground sheets down for our dog so she doesn't mark the carpet with her paws, I was shocked to find the carpet very marked and patches everywhere of stains ."

. so the first time in one of your cottages I have seen this. Also the taps in the en-suite hardly produced any water. Usually in the cottages we stay in there is a welcome basket which is always so lovely .. there was nothing here. I wouldn't stay here for a week, but as we came up for a funeral then it was adequate for what we needed. I have photos of the carpet if you need evidence.

We are so sorry to hear that our cottage has not lived up to your expectations. We pride ourselves on high standards and can assure that our carpets and soft furnishings are professionally cleaned at the very least on a twice yearly basis. Whilst we appreciate all feedback we would prefer any issues to be raised when first noticed so that we can address them for you as quickly as possible. We have now brought forwards our next carpet clean and have a plumber attending to fix the defective tap in the ensuite. Once again, we are sorry about the issue you experienced during your stay. • "Not really as advertised."

pub one minute away - closed for renovations. there is no river walk of 5 mins to pub in next village. you can access a small part of the river, then becomes private land/allotments. to walk further you have to walk along a narrow, busy, road with no path. unsuitable for dogs or children. "enclosed garden" (in one listing) or "enclosed patio" in another, with beautiful views is actually a tiny scruffy paved area with a view of the car park and a neighbour's garage. not suitable for a dog and you wouldnt choose to sit out there. views to the front are of cars and the main road in. you can see the small grassy area and river to the side. and there is no fishing (advertised on one site as available). would not recommend it to dog owners. inside is open plan and very small. might be ok for tiny dog but they would want to run up and down stairs (which our dog is not allowed to do at home). the way the rules are written are not particularly friendly either. i expected an enclosed area where our dog could run around in the morning and then we could have a pleasant river walk to get food in the evening. absolutely not. after a 7 hour drive we arrived in the evening unable to let the dog run round, no local pub. next pub fully booked (it would be nice if it said on website the The Manor House at Oxen Bridge needs booking. we did late, twice, and it was absolutely lovely meal with friendly staff). next nearest pubs were either closed or no food on at the weekend. forced to eat chips in a car park. i nearly cried. awful start. however, the Lake District itself was beautiful. We only used the cottage to sleep in . neighbours were very nice and helpful. just felt sorry for our dog. i will note in future, just because a cottage accepts dogs it does not mean it is "dog friendly"

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. It's disappointing to hear that your stay was not as you hoped. Please allow us to try to address some of your points. Pubs - The temporary closure of the local pub for refurbishment is completely beyond our control. We cannot monitor the opening times and booking requirements of the local pubs and restaurants, and post Covid some may have made changes to their offer. As is common across the country, pubs and restaurants can be busy in the evenings and at weekends so booking ahead is the only way to guarantee a table. Garden - The garden would be too small to exercise dogs but there are an abundance of lanes, paths and tracks easily accessible from the village. We have checked the listing on one of the sites regarding the view and accept they could be clearer and we will request that this is changed. River - The River is accessible from the property though you are correct that you can't walk along the river at this point, you need to walk approx 15 mins to gain access to the section of the river that leads to Greenodd. Fishing - This forms part of a list of possible activities in the general area for all local properies and is not specific to Laurel Cottage or the river Crake. Propert Size - We do not specify a sq ft figure but we would hope the numerous photos on the listing would give a good feel for the size and suitability of the property. Again we are sorry you felt disappointed in your stay. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage and very comfortable."

It is in a convenient location and we had a splendid time. For me the two things that would improve my stay were, first, cushions on the couches. The couches were too deep without. Also the TV is very small and set down low so changing the channels was sometimes a bit of a contortion. However this did not interfere with our stay and we would come again.

Thank you for your lovely review. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for the feedback regarding the cushions, these will now be provided. We hope to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

Upside down living - could not sleep if anyone upstairs as noice from flooring was quite loud. On suite facilities in bedroom. Could not sit on toilet properly as very close to wall. Shower was very good. Central heating very noisy. Still trying to find river walk! Pub shuts on Monday and Tuesday, no food until Friday and weekend. Pub at top a community pub only open part week.

Thank you for your feedback. We do hope you enjoyed your stay despite the charms and quirks of our older property not being to your liking. The carpets are indeed light in colour as shown in the photos. Our caretaker works hard to ensure that the cottage is spotless for every guest; the carpets are thoroughly cleaned between every stay and professionally cleaned several times a year to keep them fresh and hygienic. Unfortunately, hospitality everywhere has faced real challenges so some temporary changes in what our local pubs can offer is sadly inevitable. Our information for visitors lists other good, family pubs nearby to give several options. We have had the central heating checked and whilst there weren't any faults we will monitor this. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Property Owner
