  • "Loved our stay in Mill Cottage."

Logan and Jeanie so lovely - very welcoming and knowledgeable about the local area. Cottage beautiful and cosy. Local area absolutely fabulous with walks from the door but also more challenging walks only a short distance away. Highly recommend.

Great location for a stay in The Lakes. Homely, comfortable and full of character. Made even more special by the owners Jeanie and Logan who were so friendly and welcoming. We we definitely live to stay again.

  • "Mill Cottage was a wonderful place to stay during our week in the Lakes District of Northern England."

Jeanie and Logan were the perfect hosts. The cottage was very charming and Logan filled us in on some of the history behind it since he had once lived there. He also shared information about routes to take around the lakes district which was very helpful. The cottage still has an 1920's Aga coal range in the kitchen which we had the fun of maintaining during our stay. It was our range, oven, dehumidifier and dryer. We were hoping for a historical cottage experience and Mill Cottage fit the bill perfectly!

We all had a great comfortable stay and will probably be back again. The only downside is the pressure on the shower is non existent.

The Aga and open log fire were very welcoming giving a cosy feel. Jeane and Logan were very welcoming, we did not really want to come home ! Definitely be our place to stay when we visit the lakes again….

  • "The Mill Cottage was excellent in nearly every way."

The bathroom was superb. My little granddaughter especially loved the enormous bath. The extra large double bed was much appreciated. We also enjoyed the Aga. It was lovely to hear a singing kettle. Our only criticism was the poor lighting in the sitting room. As one gets older you need good lighting to both read and sew. The quiet setting of the cottage was just what we wanted.

The electric kettle was a bonus as we found the Aga took some getting used to. What can I say? We like our home comforts! It was lovely to meet the owners and learn about some of the history of the area and local walks too. We definitely recommend Mill Cottage to anyone looking to explore the Lake District.

  • "Thank you for letting us stay in your fantastic cottage."

It was cosy and warm thanks to the Aga, slept really well, plenty of sofa space for all. It would have been great to be able to go outside in the mornings to sit and inhale the atmosphere but as the garden was across the road this was a bit of a no no especially when you have your pyjamas on, and 2 lively dogs, perhaps installing a barn door in the kitchen so as the atmosphere could be let in. Ideal property for mobile Adults stairs into kitchen and narrow curving stairs to bedrooms.

  • "A lovely cottage and very clean, however the garden is not attached to the cottage so not ideal for dogs."

...this wasn't made very clear in the description. The garden across the road is very small and larger dogs could jump out onto the road. The small area in front of the cottage is not secure and you can't let dogs wee there so always have to take them on leads up the road. The cottage is smaller than the pictures suggest, especially the dining room which doesn't comfortably seat 6 people. The local area is lovely and quieter than the central Lake District with nice walks around.

Jeanie and Logan were fantastic hosts. The family were considerate and attentive to our needs as guests, but allowed us to enjoy our stay at our own pace. The property had all the charm and character expected of a countryside retreat and easily accommodated our group of six. It was clean and well-maintained, yet simultaneously rustic and homely. Such a lovely cosy place with the open fire which was needed with the cold weather. The garden isn't attached to the property which we were not aware of before. This caused a little more work letting the dogs out due to the potential traffic. Despite this we would happily return. Good location, comfy bed and all the necessities for a good break. Owner's came over and were very friendly. Couldn't have felt more welcome. Plus when the rain came in the superfast broadband was useful for netflix.

.. cozy and interesting! We loved everything about it and it suited us well and Jeannie and Logan were very welcoming and helpful as well as reassuring us within the COVID pandemic situation. I’m not sure if I missed it in the description but I just wonder if the need to empty red hot ash from the solid fuel aga and fill with coal twice daily, and the 3 large steps from the kitchen to the living room, should be mentioned in the cottage description as they may be challenging for some people. Our group found them charming!

The beds were so comfortable and the history of this place was so humbling. I ADORED the Aga- kept the cottage so warm and got the quickest cuppa's, if that wasn't enough- there was also an open fireplace- perfection. If you get the opportunity to go, definitely go and make the point of star gazing at night- you'll be glad you did.
