  • "Overall it is a gorgeous property to stay at."

Me and my partner stayed for 2 nights. The property does have wifi and is working but be aware that there is no phone signal within the property unless you leave the grounds and travel up the road. The scenery around is just gorgeous and the hot tub on a nighttime is magical. Overall the property was clean but we did have a problem with ants during our stay resulting in us having to spend time trying to get rid of them but could be seasonal.

  • "Wow what a gem of a place to stay."

Gorgeous setting by the river and the windows set the view off beautifully. The location is perfect for heading out to explore and only a short drive away from lots of lovely walks in Scotland.

  • "We had a lovely time at the heronry."

Fantastic location. The view from the floor to ceiling windows and the hot tub are just lovely. Some of the things mentioned in the Sykes listing are no longer available like the lighted seating area near the beck, and it needs a little bit of maintenance but none of this marred our stay. On site owners are lovely and if you need anything they respond super quick.

  • "Guests need to be aware there is no phone signal in the property."

It didn't help that the information booklet had an incorrect WiFi password. Whilst other guests have stated that the owners were easy to contact we did not find this to be the case despite knocking on the doors on several occasions. The lack of phone service also didn't help with contacting them. The property is a lovely romantic retreat for 2 but is in need of some TLC with the wooden supports by the hot tub being unsafe and the bathroom fan completely clogged with dust

  • "Such a peaceful cottage."

Enormous windows brought the outside into all of the rooms! Listening to the birdsong and the brook from the (immaculately clean) hot tub was so relaxing after a day exploring in the local area. Easy to access so many lovely places - Hadrian’s Wall, Kielder Forest and the local walk to the River Esk. The food at the Hidden River Cafe was delicious and a riverside walk through Shank Woods an added bonus. The reservoir walk at Castle Carrock was special - we rounded it off with Sunday lunch at The Duke of Cumberland - it was so good that we returned for their beef pie later in the week! Thanks to Danielle and Michelle for a warm welcome and for being there in an unobtrusive way. Good luck with the barn project too.

This cottage is located in such a scenic area and the views from the bedroom looking down to the river are amazing. We stayed for 5 nights and had something to do everyday. We would highly recommend driving down to ullswater as there is so much to do down there. This cottage is perfect for couples and the photos don’t do it any justice to just how breathtaking it is. Would highly recommend.

We had a very relaxing break in a wonderful location, on a rustic property with excellent facilities. Although the barn is beginning to show signs of wear, should anything important occur, the owners are always quick to help with a friendly smile. The Heronry is a great base from which to explore the surrounding Cumbrian borders and ventures into Scotland, with the perfect place to relax in the evening. Fingers crossed we'll be back again.

  • "The place is beautiful, absolutely stunning in fact."

The kitchen is amply stocked with equipment, the welcome tea and coffee were very well received after our long journey. We had a problem with the electric blinds that had not been charged before we arrived, and they didn't have the charger at the main house which meant one of the blinds was constantly down, which was a shame. There was also a rather large leak from the bedroom window, which meant we had to keep towels on the floor. Other than that, it was wonderful, and we were assured the roof was in the process of being fixed anyway. The bed is very soft and there is no phone reception. There are some lovely walks not far which we thoroughly enjoyed, with lots of pheasants! The hot tub was great (and appeared clean), surprisingly no one seemed to walk through the woods, so it really is secluded. There was an impressive night for stargazing from the hot tub, we saw a couple of shooting stars, very nice. They supplied us with flip flops which is a superb touch.

The owners have thought of everything, the facilities are best quality, the hot tub was outstanding, very private and even though the evenings were cool, the tub was wonderfully warm. We had intended going out and about during the day but apart from a trip to Gretna - and lunch at the Gretna pub on the roundabout which was excellent value - we ended up staying in, to enjoy the surroundings of the Heronry and sleeping in a huge, amazingly soft and comfortable bed each night! A really great weekend and we intend booking again as soon as we can.

We can't recommend this cottage enough! We've had such an amazing 5 nights here. We love it and quite honestly... We don't want to go home. The family who run the cottage are genuinely lovely. The proeprly itself is perfect. Clean, spacious, private and the view over the beck, especially in the hot tub is awesome. Can't beat it. Jumping in the hot bath in the morning, looking over the beck is also quite awspiring. At this time of year, we've spotted the heron fly along the beck at approx 8:30am, whilst sat in the hot tub. Up until now we have spent most of our holidays at Kielder Waterside, and The Heronry beats Kielder, by a mile. So we will be booking again, in advance. Without a doubt. The location of the cottage is also very convenient. It's close to Kielder, Lake District and Solway Coast. There's local shops, a couple of miles away, among take aways and cafes, easily accessible by car. However there's a cracking Indians who deliver for free. I could rant on about how amazing our time here has been. Thank you. Its exactly what we've needed. We will be back! See you soon!

A couple of floor tiles in the living area were broken bringing down the overall experience down and the mattress on the bed was very soft so found it difficult to sleep.

  • "The cottage was lovely and the owner really nice, helpful and friendly."

The problem was your (Skyes) advertising is incorrect we booked this cottage as we liked the idea of the double Jacuzzi bath the so called WOW factor as featured and described on your site. This is no longer there in it's place is a bath no Jacuzzi. We paid more than we would normally for this reason. There is a hot-tub outside which the owner kindly offered to us free, however we had not booked this originally we had no suitable swimwear with us. Breakfast bar (car front) not there now, this was not an issue but again false advertising. The owner told us they had informed Skyes of the changes but looks like Skyes has failed to update the site and is wrongly advertising what is not there. When we booked this place and it was the WOW factor bathroom that was the attraction. My suggestion would be to avoid further negative feedback you update to avoid other people being disappointed and loss of business for the Owners. We have found a place we want to book with skyes for September but are uneasy as the property mentions hot-tub and sauna but we are reluctant to book as we maybe disappointed again due to possible inaccurate information on site.
