  • "DIRTY and not maintained."

Glass on fire was black, dust everywhere.Paintwork could do with freshening up in kitchen.Only enough logs for one day plus kinling.Left early because we were so disappointed.Took a cloth to the floor to wipe up tea spilt and it was black.SACK THE CLEANER if you have one.

  • "We loved our stay at Hawthorn."

It was very comfortable and cosy. We had one day when it tipped it down but we were happy to light a fire and stay in. On our arrival we had a problem with the heating but, Paul, the owner, very quickly sorted it out for us . Thank you Paul for making the journey on a Saturday evening. We did feel that there were one or two things, like a kitchen cupboard door not closing properly and a shelf coming adrift but this in no way detracted from the very comfortable and happy stay we had.

  • "Beautiful Cottage in a tranquil location."

The cottage was well equipped for all our needs. A short drive to Kendal and great access to all areas of the lakes. Was lovely to return to the peaceful courtyard, which was a suntrap, after a day out. Would definitely recommend.

Thank you for your lovely comments we’re pleased you had a wonderful holiday hope to see you again Property Owner

  • "The inside of the property was very clean, however the outside left much to be desired."

The outer porch was dusty and dirty, the areas with stones were weedy and there re weds growing by the front door. The roses on the front need a trim. The windows need a clean. It’s a great pity that the first impressions of the cottage are spoilt for a few minutes work to tidy up the outside.

  • "Great location (new for us) and easy to find."

Accommodation was roomy, comfortable and pleasant. The parking for us was fine (there were 2 of us in 1 car), it might have been problematic if our party had 2 cars. Also there was a minor issue with wasps in the property which we made the owner aware of. Wifi connectivity was an issue during the first two days due to provider maintenance on the network.

  • "The internet only worked between around 5pm and 8am, which was not convenient as we were trying to keep up with local Covid updates, and also needed internet to book into restaurants, etc."

Also, there was no dryer or bbq as per advert.

  • "Over the next 3 weeks the main road to the property is closed."

So the directions should be ignored. It was closed half way through our stay and we had to use an alternative route. This however did not affect our excellent stay.

  • "Great cottage lovely location for exploring Cumbria and the surrounding areas ."

Would note that the write up states Local pub and shop 5 minute walk, which is incorrect you have to drive . Apart from that great time

  • "Although the cottage is nice, the experience was spoiled by what we felt was very poor customer support."

For example, we stay in a lot of cottages and this was one of the first times we'd not been provided with a welcome 'hamper' on arrival. Not even a pint of milk. There was only one teabag in caddy. No file of information telling us about the cottage (e.g. no info about WiFi password, how the heating works, how the council's bin collection system works, how recycling works, where good pubs/restaurants are, where local shops are). Cottage was generally clean but awful gaps in vigilance. For example loads of big cobwebs in kitchen rafters and around skirting boards in kitchen. Why doesn't anyone cleaning the kitchen fail to look up or down once in a while and see these? They are so glaringly easy to see. Overall disappointing.
