Also really enjoyed having the animals and birds around us.

  • "The Cottage was a perfect location for us."

One of us was an attendee on a Carpentry for Women course so the other needed lots of dog walking possibilities! The cottage was well furnished, and the log burner kept us warm indoors. The kitchen is well equipped, the bed was comfortable, and the there was plenty of hot water for the bath in the bathroom. There is an exclusive garden with a low fence for the dog. Fingles Bridge, Widecombe in the Moor and HayTor were good locations nearby

Christine the host was fantastic and lovely lady that was full of helpful tips of what to do or visit in the area. Lots of great and interesting National Trust places to visit in the area. We will definitely go back as this holiday was so relaxing that we came home fully charged and totally relaxed. • "The main problem - one of the party is a spiderphobe."

The first night in the cottage there were 6 spiders, one centipede and two woodlice which she had to remove. The next day I had a spider check of her room and all together there were 26 spiders and webs galore in the small bedroom. I cleared the two bedrooms of spiders, and left the ones in the other rooms. There were many. The cleanliness rating given on our website was not maintained. Apart from that the cottage was well equipped and reasonably comfortable. The beds were comfortable. The landlady was very pleasant.

The cottage has everything you need and it is very comfortable. The only negative is the low water pressure in the shower. The bathroom itself is modern but the water pressure is more of a trickle.

The owner (in the main farmhouse) is very welcoming and provides all you need in the very comfortable converted stable. The town of Chagford is 15 minutes away and has an array of independent shops and a choice of places to eat out. Christine has a wealth of local knowledge and is happy to share it with you. No hesitation in recommending The Cottage, and would be happy to return to this very reasonably priced property

Thank you for your feedback. We have not had mention of the low water pressure before in the case of the hand held shower and will be looking into this. Also, we are considering possibly putting in a shower at some point in the future. Property Owner

The only couple of niggles were not being able to just leave the door open for the dog to go in and out of the garden. The garden was lovely and secure but he did need one of us to take him there as it was through the barn. However, once in the garden I could let him off lead and sit and relax. The other was the shower which had to be held as there was no fitting on the wall. We loved the guinea fowl that came to the window whenever we appeared, especially one who we named Keith! I expect he makes friends with all visitors and has not missed us at all! Christine and Martin are great hosts and we felt very welcome.

  • "Wonderful little cottage in a stunning and quiet area."

Lovely secure garden area for dogs, with access to washing machine and dryer when needed. Cottage has a kitchen with every utensil you could ever possibly need! Very clean and comfortable. Only slight downside was the hand held shower, but to be honest the bath more than made up for that. Comfy beds, plenty of storage, board games and a well stocked bookcase if you want a quiet evening in. Lovely walk to Chagford through the lanes, which has 3 pubs and a small Spar. Otherwise a short drive into Morehampstead with its 3 pubs (The Union Inn and The White Hart were favourties) and a Coop. Great location for exploring Dartmoor, Castle Drogo and Fingle Bridge (the latter of which was a lovely spot for dog walking or just enjoying the peace and tranquillity of nature). Also within 30 minutes of Crealy Adventure Park and River Dart Park. The owners Christine and Martin were very welcoming and helpful. Highly recommend.

The cooker was clean and all equipment needed in the kitchen, the bathroom was spotless and the bedrooms were all freshly made. Definately would want to return and would recommend for any wanting an 'away from it all' stay - although the wifi connection worked perfectly so you can still keep in touch with the world. The only mark down on Comfort was for the sofa and chair, I had an elderly person staying and she found it uncomfortable and low as it was difficult for her to get up from... but we overcame that by using one of the pillows from the bedroom! Thank you so much for our lovely stay.

The Cottage had everything that you could possibly want during your stay, even down to a hot water bottle. The bed was extremely comfortable. There were heaters in the bedrooms also two plug in electric heaters in the sitting area plus the wood fire. There is a short single track road leading to the cottage but this is not a problem as there is virtually no traffic using the lane. There was a well stocked bookcase plus a great many board games. There were swallows and bats nesting in the barn next door. We saw the swallows but didn’t see any bats. The washing machine and dryer are in the barn and you can go through the barn to the garden area. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend

Lane to farm is badly pot-holed instructions say turn at house painted blue which it is but its a very pale blue easily missed at first glance

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. The lane you mention is a public highway and pot holes are routinely reported to the local council for repair. The directions to The Cottage have been updated with 'pale blue' as the paint colour has faded over time - thank you for bringing this to our attention. Property Owner

The cottage, its setting, location etc. are all excellent. Two minor positives I think are also worthy of mention - 1.) The fridge has a small freezer compartment. This was great in that it meant I did not have to go off in search of fresh fish / meat every couple of days. 2.) the DVD is actually a Blu-ray player. The first I have seen in a holiday cottage.

The farmer will even provide you with fresh veg to cook when it is available.

The living room has plenty of character with big beams and a cosy wood burning stove, and leads to a dining area and well equipped kitchen.

Stairs wind up from the living room to the two bedrooms which share the bathroom.

This is excellent walking country, with lanes and footpaths to wander and Castle Drogo in its dramatic wooded valley, and you can dry your coats and boots in the outhouse by the cottage.

The open space of Dartmoor is within easy reach, as is the friendly little town of Chagford with its inns and interesting little shops.
