Very friendly and welcoming hosts who couldnt do enough for us! The property was very clean and welcoming with lovely log burner with plenty of logs The most amazing views from every window which we spent a lot of time looking out of! :) Well appointed little annex - perfect for a quiet and beautiful getaway!

Thank you for your lovely review and kind comments which are very much appreciated. It was a real pleasure to meet you both and do hope you had a restful and relaxing holiday at Kestorway. Should you wish to return at any time you can be assured of a very warm welcome - we were very happy to host such delightful and respectful guests. Pauline and Jim Property Owner

  • "Kestorway is beautiful, set in an idyllic moor land with amazing views, the property owners are wonderful and could not do enough for us, unfortunately I was poorly whilst there but the owners were fantastic and made sure we had everything we needed."

The only thing I would suggest to improve is the wifi and tv, the tv is tiny and the wifi didn't allow complete streaming on my lap top/iPad, unfortunately the weather was crazy why we was there so had to stay in so a bigger tv etc would have been beneficial, but this should not put you off as everything else was perfect. thank you for having us and we will definitely return in there summer :) xx

Thank you of your feedback - such a shame you were unwell whilst on holiday and also that the weather was particularly wild and stormy. We have taken note of your comments with regard to the TV and wifi and hope this didn’t impact too much on the enjoyment of your holiday - however the details for Kestorway state very clearly - ' living room with great views, wood burning stove, small TV/DVD' (this is also evident in the photos). Also the issue with wifi is the result of our remote moorland location and is out of our control although this service is currently being improved by the installation of fibre broadband. Hope you are now fully recovered and feeling much better and should you return to Dartmoor then hopefully the weather will be kinder and you will have a much more positive experience. Pauline and Jim with all their wonderful animals were so incredibly kind and welcoming, we felt so at home and nothing was too much for them. Thank you for your comments - we do like to ensure our guests have a restful and positive experience and the moorland location of Kestorway is perfect for active walkers and those who want to explore the area. With regards to the television, the details for Kestorway state very clearly, ' living room with great views, wood burning stove, small TV/DVD' (this is also evident in the photos). I’ve always been happy to be home after holiday but not this time! The cottage is so romantic, extremely well equipped, comfortable, clean and the perfect location right on top of the moor. A must stay for anyone looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of city life and be at one with nature. My dogs were also in their element being able to walk out of the door straight onto the moor with all the exciting smells of other animals around. We saw cattle, sheep, horses and many types of birds on our rambling adventures together. There are endless stunning walks exploring stone circles, wild swimming in the salmon weir, afternoon tea, and the nearby quaint town of Chagford which has everything you would need to cater in self accommodation as well as an outdoor swimming pool. The hosts Pauline and Jim are absolutely lovely, so accommodating and full of information about the local area. They were very kind to my 11 year old son who has special needs and normally too shy to talk to new people but described them as “the nicest people you could ever meet and the world is a better place with them in it.”

  • "The location, accommodation and hosts were superb."

A very lovely quiet place to stay away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Two downsides from my point of view which has nothing really to do with the venue and hosts, 1. very narrow roads which could do with regular trimming as my car sustained minor scratches either side from the hedges 2. Advertised as dog friendly. The accommodation is, but once out on the moors, they must be kept on a lead at all times, which is no break for our Labrador who loves his exercise to be vigorous. I do understand why though, but this must be stated for dog owners wishing to stay on Dartmoor. All in all, a very enjoyable stay with Pauline and Jim Thankyou

Thank you very much for your feedback, we're really pleased to hear you loved Kestorway and had such a good holiday. There is however an inaccuracy in your review which we'd like to clarify for the benefit of other pet owners as it isn't correct to say that pets must be kept on a lead at all times. Within Dartmoor National Park there are 365 square miles of open access wilderness. For the protection of wildlife and farm animals all national parks require dogs to be kept on leads or under close control. Dog owners who do not have reliable recall and 'walk to heel control' will need to keep their dogs on a lead around livestock or wildlife. Owners of well trained dogs can enjoy the open access Dartmoor National Park provides without the need to use a lead. Property Owner

The property

Kestorway is three miles from Chagford and is situated on the side of the wooded Teign Gorge on the Moor itself (just below Kestor Rock).

Built in 1923 as a guest house, tea rooms and sweetshop, the house has an interesting history, serving at various times as a writer’s retreat with connections to Agatha Christie, film makers, the satirist Peter Cook and was for a period used as a hunting and fishing lodge.

The annex is adjoined to the main house and is very light and airy and completely self-contained with its own entrance and parking space along with a turning area.

The property is approached via 70 yards of gravel track and to access the annex there are three wide steps and a lawn to walk across which leads to your front door.

The views from the property are spectacular and because of its location it is possible to walk straight onto the Moor making it the ideal property for those who love walking and who have a wish to explore surrounding Neolithic and Bronze Age settlement.

Inside is warm and inviting; relax in comfy chairs and take in the scenery whilst listening to the gentle crackle of the wood burning stove.

The fitted kitchen has everything you'll need and a dining area with garden views.

From here step out into the comfortably furnished sunroom overlooking the garden and those glorious views to the West.

The pretty double bedroom also enjoys super views and is a lovely space to retire to at the end of a day's walking.

The well kept garden surrounds the whole house, and family and friends are welcome to camp on site, by arrangement (extra).

A fantastic place for walkers or for simply wandering Dartmoor's valleys and tors to soak up the spectacular views and peace.

The open moor starts at the front gate, so you can leave your car, don your walking boots and head out.

The popular town of Chagford is nearby, here there are interesting little shops and a selection of good food pubs for a hearty lunch.

A little further afield the historic cathedral city of Exeter, has plenty of amenities and lots to see and do.
