  • "We really enjoyed our stay plenty of room nice big kitchen with lots of utensils pots and pans etc."

Living room was very comfy nice big rug in the middle Separate ends upstairs was good, we used small bedroom as a dressing room, lovely walled garden just right for our dog. Great location, parking for two cars

  • "The cottage was just as we expected."

It was very well equipped - we were even able to make a birthday cake! The showers were hot and powerful. The self contained garden was lovely - full of birdsong and very tranquil. We had 3 cars but there were no problems with using the nearby free village carpark for one of them. It is a shame that the village shop and two pubs have closed although there are efforts to re-open one pub. We enjoyed exploring the local area.

  • "A simply beautiful cottage in an idyllic location in Devon."

This was the best cottage we have stayed in and have already booked again for next year. The walled garden was a perfect place for us and our dogs to chill after long walks in the gorgeous Dartmoor area. The kitchen is modern and well equipped and both bathrooms were well fitted with excellent showers. The lounge is comfortably furnished and there is a TV in all main rooms as well. A lovely place to stay in a fantastic location.

  • "Lovely comfortable stylish cottage with great views of the countryside from outside."

Well equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds. A restful week spent at the cottage with friends, enjoying the pretty walled garden. The only downside is that both the village pub and store have closed in recent months so nowhere to buy any groceries without getting in the car, which in itself is an adventure as all approaches to the cottage are down single track lanes. Plenty of places to visit within a 20 mile radius. A walk to Fingles’s bridge and pub is worth the time, around 25 minutes away. Also a drive of 15 minutes to The Post Inn is worth it especially for the good Sunday Carvery.

The cottage is great and fitted out to a high standard. It's in a great location for walks and a good base for exploring other local areas. It's a shame the Drew Arms is closed and no shop now in the village but not a major issue, The Fingle Bridge Inn is not too far away and is a great spot next to the river. We will return for a 6th visit at some point.

Was a little surprised to see we had to deal with previous persons rubbish and put it out for the binmen. I have stayed in several Sykes cottages before and never have I had to put other peoples rubbish out

Hi there. We do state our dog terms in the booking conditions and we are sorry this was missed. It sounds like the previous guests had not dealt with the waste properly so we apologise you were met with this. - Helpful Holidays. Property Owner

It was very clean and comfortable. There was a little shop a few minutes away selling fresh bread, milk etc but it was about 20 minutes drive to a small supermarket. The garden was lovely to sit in to enjoy breakfast on the patio. The approach road was narrow and meeting a tractor and other traffic was quite common. There are some lovely walks nearby and because of the heat when we visited we choose mainly wooded outings.

  • "The cottage was delightful, very comfortable and cosy but still plenty of room for 4 adults and 2 children."

Huge kitchen, lovely large table would seat 8 with no problem. There is almost every possible cooking implement in this kitchen, however we couldn't find a pair of tongs (minor thing). Nice secure garden with ample space for the dogs to wander. The split of the bedrooms is ideal as it allows for an element of privacy if required. The cream tea that was there for us upon arrival was lovely except for the cream, something was not right about it!! Not a complaint but whoever supplies it might be worth double checking. Something that might be worth putting in the information is that there is a large amount of books and magazines available to read, DVDs, games suitable for adults and children and several jigsaws. This information would have been helpful to us as we took a lot of things in order to keep the children entertained in case of bad weather, but we wouldn't have if we had known there were things at the cottage. Again, not a complaint just an observation to help others in the future. Overall a wonderful week at a lovely cottage.

  • "Michaelmas Cottage, Drewesteignton."

4th – 11th September 2020 We have no complaint about the cottage itself – it is exactly as described on your website, and it is comfortable and well fitted out. However, as you will be aware, we were warned by telephone around August 21st that some potentially disruptive building work was being undertaken on the cottage next-door-but-one. After an email discussion, we agreed to accept a discount of 10% to reflect the change of circumstances, with the proviso that we could contact Helpful Holidays if the situation was not as described, or became worse. When we arrived at the property, we were surprised to see that the cottage immediately next door was covered in scaffolding in preparation for re-thatching. There was a walk-way all around the cottage overlooking the walled garden of Michaelmas Cottage. The privacy of the garden had disappeared completely. We quickly realised that this was not the building work we had been discussing with your customer care team, but a completely separate project. We therefore had had work going on both sides of Michaelmas Cottage! After several attempts and long waits on the telephone, morning eventually I contacted your company on Monday and told them about the new situation. My call had been transferred to your head office, and the gentleman I spoke to appeared to be unaware of the second lot of building work. He asked what were my expectations. It had previously been established that there was no alternative accommodation in the area, and he asked if I was seeking additional compensation. I asked if someone from Helpful Holidays could simply drive to the property (only 4 miles from your local office in Chagford) to confirm what I had told him. He said that he would speak to the owners and a local representative, and get back to me. This did not happen. The thatchers duly arrived to strip off the old thatch, and on the following day re-thatching started. Meanwhile, the three builders’ vans and the thatcher’s truck were parked about 18 inches from the kitchen and sitting room windows with constant to-ing and fro-ing. I will say that the builders acted considerately and made as little disturbance as possible, but the whole thing was a major disturbance on our privacy and enjoyment. We certainly would not have booked the cottage if we had been aware of what was going on. It is extremely disappointing that Helpful Holidays did not get back to me, or visit the property to assess the situation. I trust you will respond urgently. David Gillett

Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback. We’re delighted to hear how much you liked Michaelmas Cottage and that you found it exactly as described. We’ve discussed the situation with the owner and they’ve advised us that had they known about the thatching work taking place (which is now complete), they would have informed you in advance (just as they did with the other neighbours building work). Thatching is an amazing traditional skill to see, but we appreciate you found them being next door disappointing. We are glad to hear the builders were quiet and respectful and do hope that the steps we took to outline possible disturbance were well received. We hope that overall you enjoyed your stay on Dartmoor and we hope we’ll see you again soon. Property Owner

  • "A really lovely cottage."

Well stocked and clearly loved and cared for by owners and caretaker. We had our dog with us and the property was great for her too. The garden is fully enclosed, although the gate does have a few gaps so if you have a particularly tiny chihuahua then keep an eye for an escape attempt...the cottage is on the edge of the village, and only a short stroll away, albeit up a very steep narrow road, from the lovely Drewe Arms. Worth the walk to pubs and church, and a lovely village shop. A cream tea on arrival was a nice touch and greatly appreciated. The only thing missing was an initial supply of logs for the woodburner, so bring a bag if you are thinking of using it. Overall, a really great place and great for a cosy week exploring Dartmoor.

Would recomment the local pub The Drewe Arms which is literally 400yds away up a slight hill!! Great food and friendly staff. There is a Spar shop in neighbouring Chalford which is 3.5miles away - this stocks most things and stays open late. Exeter and Okehampton are only 30 and 20mins drive away respectively. The property

This pretty, thatched cottage is tucked away on the edge of the picturesque Devon village of Drewsteignton.

One of three lovely cottages hidden from the lane, it is brilliantly peaceful.

From the garden, you step into a big kitchen with dining area, and from there through an arch into a lovely cosy sitting room with electric stove.

In traditional style, two separate staircases lead you upstairs, one to two bedrooms with a bathroom, the other to two more bedrooms with shower room.

The two upstairs spaces don't connect, so are handily private for two families or couples.

The lawn garden is charming, enclosed by high walls and with loungers and table and chairs for relaxing in the sun.

This is a lovely area for walking from the village, with footpaths criss crossing through woodland and beside the River Teign.

Enjoy drinks or a meal at the riverside pub, Fingle Inn (5 mins drive), National Trust Castle Drogo (6 mins drive), Drakes Farm shop (milk, bread, meats etc- 3 mins drive), Drakes Café (fab breakfasts, meals coffee and lots of farm animals to see - 3 mins drive), Cheriton Bishop Convenience shop (mini super - 7 mins drive), village pub the Drewe Arms is re-opening in March 2024.
