We were delighted with the similar level of quality and comfort in this property. It's warm, extremely comfortable and clean, with everything you need for a relaxing stay with lovely touches like the toiletries and fresh flowers. We loved the peaceful setting and the views of the trees. The owner was welcoming and helpful and we would definitely stay again.

  • "Lovely location, owners very welcoming."

Property was exactly as listed and highly maintained with both great care and attention. All facilities working with no problems. Drive into property is as stated on listing as very very narrow, have to take great care, is doable without getting scratches but would not recommend for big or expensive cars but park at car park for £4. Only comment was double bed which would be greatly improved with a king size and thicker pillows.

Hello David, we are glad that you enjoyed your stay. All of the non-single beds across all of our properties are 150cm wide and 200cm long - that is, they are king size beds. Thank you for your suggestion for thicker pillows, we have in the past had a request for thinner pillows so not too surprising that many people prefer to bring their own. Thanks again for taking the time and trouble to give feedback and we hope to see you again at Old Armoury Barn one day. Property Owner

Spotlessly clean and Mark & Jackie are warm and welcoming hosts. As advertised the access is narrow, I drive a Ford S-Max and at the narrowest point, both my wing mirrors scraped against the walls. I could have folded them in but I chose not to as I used them to gauge the gap. That said, it wouldn’t put me off re-booking for future stays. The location is great, Ashburton is a love south Devon town with lots of shops and eateries. I would highly recommend the property.

Less than 50 yds - no charge after 6.00 pm - very cheap short and long stay areas. We give the property 5* rating - well furnished, impeccably clean, very comfortable and quiet. Mini supermarkets, and many independent shops close by. Ashburton Arts Centre is really worth a visit

Plenty of facilities for cooking etc. Some lovely touches. The fridge (technically a fridge freezer?) was very small. The main criticism is the supposed width of the lane, admittedly we have a large car , well under the advertised width, but struggled to get in, the angle of the wall at entrance and the downpipes made it very difficult. Perhaps the measurement could be amended?

Thank you for feedback. We do give a accurate as possible measurement in millimeters at the narrowest point at the entrance. We hope to be able to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

Mark the owner, who lives behind the barn, is kind and helpful, and not at all intrusive. Creamo’s on the same road offer great unusual ice cream, there’s an artisan bakers, a fish deli, and a community centre with a selection of live music - jazz and Latin, some of these only open part of the week or at the weekends. We drove to the part of the moor we know well each day which is around Poundsgate and Dartmeet, however there were walks onto the hills around the town.

The owners were friendly and informative. We had a relatively large car, and with the wing mirrors folded in and one of us guiding the driver through the narrowest part of the access drive, this was not a problem. The Exeter Inn was a favourite for a great range of drinks and good quality food (limited to Pizzas only on Monday and Tuesday of the week we visited - days when other restaurants appeared to be closed). The Red Mullet fish and chip shop was good, as was OPOP, a co-operative type new venture next to the Post Office, and the take away ice cream parlour at the end if the street. Local Co-Op and Spar provided adequate facilities of everyday foods, both open early until late. Ella, the artisan bakery was excellent (changing daily bakes listed on a blackboard in the window) - get there in time before stock runs out and the shop closes early/ mid afternoon). A couple of delicatessen and a fruit and veg shop give added variety. All are within a 5 minute walk of the cottage.

  • "The location is good but as the Barn is located in a courtyard which is shared by other properties around the courtyard then of course there are no views and no private garden space."

The Barn is approached by a very narrow access bordered by other properties and it is very difficult to get a medium size car through, so it is important to note the access width given in Barn details. The wash basin tap in the En-Suite is fitted too close to the wall, prohibiting its proper use, very annoying. There is only a small selection of BBC Channels available(No other channels) on the TV, but there is a selection of DVDs .

Thank you for taking the time to complete your feedback following your recent stay at Old Armoury Barn. The Barn is exactly as described on our website, there is a private outside seating area allocated to Old Armoury Barn which is not overlooked by the neighbours. Due to the reverse level nature of the property, again as described online, the views are benefited from the 1st floor of the property over the Ashburton townscape to the hills and woods beyond - many guests find this delightful. We are sorry to hear you found manoeuvring your car difficult, again we are very specific in our online description regarding the size of the approaching lane and have had much larger vehicles access the property without trouble. Thank you for bringing the issue with the tap to our attention, we have notified the owner of the property who is arranging to have this fixed as soon as he is able, had you notified us during your stay, the owner would have happily tried to rectify this for you before your departure. Over 20 TV channels are available, due to the specification of the transmitter in this area, Freeview channels are not available, hence why we do not advertise Freeview as part of the TV package at Old Armoury Barn, if you were having difficulties with the television we would have been happy to assist you had you contacted us. Despite the points raised we hope you managed to enjoy your visit and the glorious September weather. Property Owner

Fresh flowers in all the rooms added a nice touch. The barn is very comfortable, spacious and spotless with quality furnishings, linen and towels. It was a novelty staying in a town, but Ashburton is very quiet and one doesn’t hear noise from the A38. The town is a delight with many independent shops: the fish deli was a particular favourite. You will want for nothing when you stay. The owners greeted us warmly and even, once they knew the age of our children, brought round a selection of toys and games for them, plus extra towels in case we decided to travel to the beach. They also advised that if we needed anything at all, just let them know. The property is well positioned in the centre of Ashburton. The high street is a minutes walk away and has traditional shops like a bakers, a butchers and a delicatessen plus a host of antique/bric-a-brac shops and a brilliant guitar shop which was quite unexpected! There is a also a Spar and a Coop for your everyday food items. Ashburton itself is located just on the A39 which provides great access to other areas of Devon and then further into Cornwall. We visited The Lost Gardens of Heligan and The Eden Project which were both just over and hours drive away. There is a plenty to see nearby too including England’s tallest waterfall at Canonteign Falls. Being on the edge of Dartmoor means a short drive puts you in the middle of a wilderness too which is great to explore. The property is very comfortable with lovely fixtures and fittings. Kitchen has a dishwasher, washer dryer, microwave, cooker and hob plus many, many utensils. Bedrooms have lots of space, built in wardrobes, en suite bathroom in the master bedroom and a separate bathroom too. Good size digital TVs in both bedrooms and a bigger tv in the living room. Good selection of films and books provided plus free access to WiFi which was very useful. Property has a parking space which is handy as the yard to which the property is attached is pretty tight. Access to the property is up a very narrow lane which we were aware of before we travelled but you get used to it. We have a VW Passat and it went up with the wing mirrors folded in. We really enjoyed our stay here and will really consider returning! Full credit to the owners for being so friendly and providing a wonderful property for our family holiday.

It's the perfect place to stay if you want to be right in the centre of Ashburton and yet have peace, and lovely views. There's no traffic noise at all. The upstairs sitting room and kitchen are modern and well designed, spacious and full of light. They look out over the rooftops and the hills beyond. The house is comfortable (including good mattresses) and well-equipped. I stayed in winter and the house was very warm. I was impressed by the efficiency of the electric radiators, and how easy it was to adjust the heat in each room. The owners were unfailingly helpful and kind. It was a real pleasure to have fresh flowers in the sitting room and bedrooms, and to be greeted with tasty home baked scones, with jam and clotted cream. The only improvements I'd suggest would be a salad spinner, small size paring and chopping knives, and one really comfortable high-backed armchair for those of us who are older and need a bit more support when sitting.

The scenery in this area of South Devon is glorious in all weathers and offers visitors opportunities for walking, pony trekking, canoeing, fishing and lazing on the beach. It also has lovely tea rooms, a wine bar and a fantastic food deli providing fresh fish and olives. In the surrounding area, Dartmoor has many picturesque villages and hamlets with old thatched cottages and ancient churches, surrounded by a patchwork of fields and woodland. Lustleigh, North Bovey, Chagford and Widecombe- in- the- Moor are fine examples. The attractive seaside town of Teignmouth is a half hour drive and the popular Blackpool Sands, although a little further down the coast, is one of South Devon's most beautiful natural treasures.
