  • "We enjoyed a lovely week here in December for a Birthday celebration."

The whole family enjoyed their stay. The house is comfortable and well equipped with everything you could need. My only criticism is the very late check in of 6pm. Other than that I can’t think of anything negative.

  • "The house was ideal for the needs of our party which comprised 3 adult couples and a 7th adult with her dog."

Everything was scrupulously clean and lovingly presented without being overly fussy; beds were comfortable and warm, although a couple of us would have preferred thicker pillows, and the two bathrooms were well appointed. We enjoyed the cosiness of the wood-burning stove in the lounge, as well as the interesting and eclectic selection of books, board games and DVDs; playing bar-billiards was a real joy for some of us. The kitchen is large and well-equipped. We were staying as part of a much larger family gathering (held in a nearby village hall) and the 2 chefs in our number were able to prepare and cook food, sourced from the fabulous local butcher, baker, fish-monger, green-grocer and delicatessen, for over 50 people. The property's central location makes it ideal for food shopping and/or eating out, with a number of excellent hostelries within easy walking distance as well as a park for the kids and short walks to exercise the dog, which is just as well because you don't want to be driving in and out of the courtyard at the back too may times! Armourers Forge is a lovely place to stay for families or a small group of friends. The tea, coffee and milk supplies were appreciated, as were flowers in every room.

Fresh flowers in every room, a lovely generous welcome pack, immaculately clean facilities and every extra you could ever need to host a banquet. Kitchen was far better equipped than my house. The garden and parking are beautiful and location is perfect walking distance to all of the town. Excellent cafe/pub/restaurants and plenty of unique shops around. We will definitely return.

The house is wonderful - spacious, light, spotlessly clean and the best equipped place we have ever stayed in. Very comfortable beds in lovely furnished bedrooms, two amazing bathrooms and the dining table we could all eat together at was perfect for having family and friends to share our holiday with. The owner was welcoming and helpful and we really appreciated the little touches like the fresh flowers around the house. It is well situated in the very attractive town with everything you need within a few minutes walk. We highly recommend it and would definitely stay again.

We asked for a high chair and cot and both were provided. House was spotless, and much bigger than we thought it would be. The owner greeted us when we arrived and told us all about the interesting history of the property and Ashburton. I could not recommend this property high enough, they've really thought of everything, including a lovely welcome basket with a few essentials for arrival. Thanks again, we can't wait to come back!

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Armourers Forge."

A stunning house with large airy rooms and bags of character. As described the house is set over three levels so there are plenty of stairs! Decor is fresh and the house was cleaned to a very high standard. We were greeted by our hosts Mark & Jacqui who were welcoming and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The welcome pack and milk in the fridge on arrival was much appreciated. The entrance is narrow but not impossible. There is a large long stay car park a two minute walk away with reasonable charges for the week. Ashburton is a lovely little town with lots of quirky shops and cafes. There are two convenience stores open all the time and the other shops open at various times. We recommend Creamos at the end of the road for lovely local ice cream and sweet treats. There is lots to explore in the area being 30 mins from lots of key visitors places.

  • "We loved this house, it was beautiful and well equipped."

The owners were friendly and helpful. There were lovely touches such as the provision of beach towels which really enhanced the experience for us. There was much to like and little to fault. We did, however, find it to be noisiest place we have ever stayed, significantly disrupting sleep. Whilst this is clearly not within the control of the owners, nor would it have been a surprise (although the BT open reach cherry picker right outside our bedroom window in the early hours of the morning may have been!). Sadly, it did impact our overall enjoyment of our holiday. We didn’t expect no noise near the town centre, but we didn’t expect to be woken multiple times every night either.

The house is well equipped with appliances, and furnished with a good sized dining table & chairs, and comfortable sofas & beds. The bathrooms have both showers and large standing baths. It has a spacious feel, and the courtyard is lovely to sit out in the sun. There is a park with playground just around the corners, bells can be heard from the church opposite. We enjoyed a Chinese takeway, and made the most of the local butchers. Ashburton is well connected being just off the A38, approx 10 minutes from Trago Mills, the House of Marbles & Stover Park, and less than half an hour to our favourite beach town of Teignmouth. Highly recommend, but be aware there are lots of stairs, and the parking entry is a little tight!
