  • "We've just returned from Ellies Lodge after a 3 night stay, for our daughters 40th birthday."

This property is amazing everyone really enjoyed it, plenty of room for everyone to be together or a quiet lounge if you wanted to just sit & chat! We had a couple of issues which were sorted immediately so no complaints at all! Facilities were well thought out, we could eat in easily as kitchen well provided with all you need! Thank you for helping to make this a weekend to remember!

  • "Ellies Lodge is an excellent accommodation for larger groups, all of the bedrooms are clean and comfortable and have en suite facilities."

The house is huge and had more than enough space for us, we spent most of our time in the bar area. Check-in was very smooth and the owner communicated with me on the arrival day with lots of useful information - the cafe in the adjoining garden centre was excellent for breakfasts. 10 minutes walk from the town and costs £4 for a taxi back, great location and nice and quiet on the evening. I would definitely recommend it and would happily return in the future.

  • "We stayed in this property for a hen party."

After our weekend I waited over 10 days for the deposit I was then told we had left damage. We we knew we hadn’t, I requested pictures on numerous occasions and received blurry pictures of fluff on some floor and towels with make up on that hadn’t been attempted to be cleaned. After back and forth we only received £800 back as she charged us for a cleaning company to go in. I have since seen on the cleaning company’s Facebook page them cleaning the property and not one stain is shown anywhere that she had claimed. The house is lovely and our stay was amazing unfortunately the after service is poor and be very cautious about the bond requested. Take plenty of pictures upon entering and exiting the property. So disappointed in the customer service.

Starting with the interior, beautifully designed 'a combination of contemporary & rusty look' has given a fabulous look. All the facilities were available for a holiday. Clean and tidy. No problems of hot water. Luxuries and comfortable

  • "We absolutely loved our stay at Ellie’s - couldn’t fault it apart from the Wi-Fi but that was fixed when an engineer came out at the weekend that was prebooked and was great after that."

The rooms are all you excellent and the house and facilities are amazing. We had a disabled family member with us so the downstairs disabled access room was absolutely brilliant and perfect for our needs. We booked as a chance to spend a weekend away with us altogether as a family and that is exactly what we got thanks to this hidden gem of a house - location is perfect and the garden with the weather being so nice was the best base for us all to relax and spend time together. 10/10 for Ellie’s lodge we can’t wait to come back thank you again to the owners for providing such a great place and for Sykes for making the booking process so smooth

  • "The house was brilliant for a large multi-generational family- huge, comfortable with plenty of room and lots to entertain everyone."

BUT the Wifi let it down badly and is a deal breaker for returning next year. My elderly mother spends most of her time on the internet so ruined the holiday for her, my cousin had an extremely important meeting on Zoom and my partner was trying to register his Taekwondo pupils for a competition which was time sensitive. The only usable wifi hotspot was in the hall (next to the router) as the remote hotspots in the rooms repeatedly went down (even if standing under them). The owner wasn't interested. He said had a cheap contract and they couldn’t come out till Thursday (we were leaving Friday 10am!). And guess what? They didn’t turn up on Thursday! Come on this is 2022 and ‘the wifi is patchy’ because a rural area is no longer an excuse. Sykes did their best though, and a door with faulty hinge was sorted straight away. For the benefit of future users of this property, bring some large saucepans, a decent frying pan and a colander if you are catering for a lot of people. It was complicated using multiple small pans. Also no baking trays or ceramic lasagne-style dishes. Plenty of cutlery and crockery though. A dustpan and brush would have been useful, and a sign on the front door to show people the house was privately rented. That said, the property itself couldn't be faulted, huge, plenty of room and great fun to be in.

There was 23 of us in our group all different ages, the house is big enough that you don't get in each other's way.Big kitchen and dining area, spent most evening's in the bar, made good use of the hot tub, sauna, and pool table, also aldi and m&s food hall are in walking distance, plenty of places to go and visit, plenty of places to eat and drink fifteen minutes walk. Could have done with some smaller glasses for juice, and maybe locks on the bedroom doors. But all in all everyone had a great time.

  • "The cottage was great in every respect."

But we all slept so badly every night. We couldn't work out why (given temperatures were only just about 20 degrees in the day) but the bedrooms were unbearably hot and stuffy. After the first night I called you to ask if there were fans in any of the locked rooms. You said you'd ask the owner and let us know. But we never heard back from you. We'd never stay at the cottage again or recommend it to others, despite it being great. We came back shattered due to such poor sleep! One night my 16 year old son and I were still awake at 3am: not what you want on an activity holiday.

  • "The house is absolutely stunning and very clean."

There were no wine glasses just very small ones which I would use for Champagne. No tumblers so had our morning fresh orange out of pint glasses. No ping pong balls, this was reported during our stay but we didn't get any. Also a very little toilet roll supplied, some bathrooms had none, think you need to let your guests know in advance. It's a shame these small things let it down.

  • "The listing on Sykes Cottages doesn't do justice to how incredible this property really is."

You have to see it to believe it. Our booking was for 17 men, so naturally you'll need a way to keep them entertained - with the pool table, dartboard, hot tub, sauna, ping pong table and let's not forget the ample space, you're guaranteed a group of very happy guys. The host was also at hand if we had any issues. Luckily nothing too problematic required her input, but it was great to know.

Lots of games for the kids, pool table, table tennis, darts, hot tub, sauna and a bar for the adults. It was extremely clean, and every room had an en-suite. Very short drive to the village and to Booths to stock up the fridge. I would remember to pack hand soap, shower gel, shampoos etc as there isn’t any. The location isn’t as expected it’s not quite as rural as it appears you are next to a garden centre & near a main road but it’s quiet and lots of room for parking. we had awful weather for August but this meant we enjoyed the sauna & hot tub even more because of this. And the cosy log fire in the evening. Overall we had a lovely time and would definitely recommend this house for large groups & families.

  • "Our party of 24 was very comfortably accommodated and we found the facilities excellent."

I have slightly downrated the accuracy of the listing only because the directions for finding the "cottage" are not very helpful. I suggest you replace them as follows "From the M6, take the A590, which bypasses Ulverston as a dual carriageway. After the traffic lights at the end of the dual section, continue on the A590 for about 150 yards, turn right into Pennington Lane and then go straight ahead into the Hill Foot Garden Centre. Ellie's Lodge will be on your left". I also marked down the cleanliness slightly because the kitchen floor was very sticky and we had to mop it seveal times. It is quite understandable that in a property with so many bathrooms toilet items are not provided, but it would be useful for guests to be told of this in advance. On a positive note, we were most impressed that when we pointed out that despite the large supply of glasses there were no flutes for champagne they were very promptly provided. I hope you will take these remarks as constructive criticisms.. Overall we could not have made a better choice for our family reunion.

  • "A lovely large house, lots of space for everyone in our group and excellent facilities."

It is clean, comfortable, tastefully decorated and well equipped. The downside is that it is positioned next to the garden centre so shares the car park and there is a motor home business and some landscaping work going on too which means there is a bit of finishing off and tidying up to do around the back of the house. However, once inside you are unaware of these things and the house and garden feel very private. All in all, a brilliant venue for a family and friends gathering to celebrate a milestone birthday.

  • "The house is an amazing place and the decor is very well designed, the hot tub, poolroom bar, snooker and sauna all make the experience wonderful."

The rooms are very well furnished with pleasant surprise such as Bluetooth mirrors in the bathrooms and powerful showers. The two main rooms are well laid out with the front lounge having no tv which is ideal for a moment of quiet or a place to chat. The Tv room with Netflix and video on `tap` for the children and with the log burner is super for family with the open plan kitchen and access to the hot tub and garden through the french doors. Ulverston is a small market town with lots of things to see and do the most popular being the Laurel and Hardy museum, there are lots of restaurants and pubs for meals and the town is a pleasant place for a stroll around.A house with a bar was not what we expected but this was very handy with eleven adults and nine children all wanting drinks at different times of the day. The facilities of the house are many and varied but there are two of everything that is in a standard kitchen, dishwasher, oven, conduction hobs, oven and more cutlery, crockery and glassware than it is possible to use. We would have no hesitation in returning to Ellies Lodge, it is a wonderful place and we came away relaxed and with lots of happy memories.
