Sagging terribly and left me very sore in the morning. Had to move to one of the smaller bedrooms. The springs in the mattress were totally collapsed. I liked the fact that the cottage was in the countryside where it's quiet. The dog had a great time with the big garden and settled quickly. Great views from the full length windows. The underfloor heating was great as it kept the feet toasty warm. Everything included for a wonderful stay. I would stay here again if I'm in the area

It has big grounds which were beautiful in autumn colours. The bathrooms were so big and very well laid out. The only downside was trying to get use to the trains going past , also there was only one log fire which was in the hall, the sitting room one isn’t functional. All in all a fantastic base to explore the highlands.

The bed was comfy and great to have an en-suite and a dressing room too! The garden is large and would have been perfect for our dog(who we unfortunately we lost after making the booking), The bird feeders attracted a wide variety of birds and it was great to watch them coming and going. The location was good for exploring too.

  • "This was our second holiday at the Glebe and we hope to visit again."

The house is in such a tranquil setting, set on beautiful, spacious grounds with such peace and quiet, you feel as if you are in a remote location even though the A9 is only a couple of minutes away. The owner Colin was there to meet us and was a friendly, affable host who was always available if needed for anything. The inside of the house is decorated to a high standard which you notice as soon as you step into a spacious hall complete with log burner. The open plan kitchen/dining/sitting room is lovely the kitchen is spacious and as the main cook for the holidays I found everything I needed to prepare meals. There is a large dining table for the family to gather around and comfortable sitting area with TV. There also a larger sitting room where we gathered to watch movies in the evening. Both sitting rooms and the master bedroom have access to the patio. The bedrooms are all comfortable, the master bedroom is very spacious with a comfy king size bed, I loved the spacious dressing room and en suite with a good sized shower. The main bathroom is very spacious with a good sized shower and a fabulous deep, free standing claw foot bath which is amazing(I stocked up on bath bombs to use while there!!) The house has a high standard of cleanliness throughout and also toilet with sink just off the utility room and the large garage has a chest freezer and washing machine. The house really does have anything you require of a holiday home. The surrounding area is lovely we visited Inverness, Dornoch and Tain and recommend the Sandstone Cafe in Dornoch and Platform 1864 in Tain for lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday and highly recommend The Glebe.

Spacious and very well equiped. Especially the master bedroom. The dressingroom was a real bonus. The first week the weather was chilly. But that is no problem in The Glebe, thanks to the perfect underfloor heating. The second week we enjoyed the garden. And if you need anything or if there is a minor problem, Colin is always there to help. We loved the wildlife in the field and the birds by the feeder. We made nice daytrips. There is so much to see. And the A9 on your doorstep makes is easy to get away. You can make nice walks in the area as well. Sometimes a bid steep if you are used flat walks in the Netherlands. The pub is on walking distance with good food. We certainly hope to go back. Two weeks was not enough.

It’s ideally situated to explore the area, Black Isle, Inverness, Dornoch with its amazing beach, even John O’Groats and Ullapool are easy drives for days out. Colin is on hand if you need anything plus the local pub 5 mins walk does superb food or take outs which you can enjoy back at the Glebe. Loads of wildlife visit the garden, even pheasants and a hare seen daily. Added bonus of a huge garage to store any bikes etc you may bring. Would definitely recommend The Glebe for anyone from less mobile to active the accommodation and area is ideal for everyone.

  • "The Glebe is a fantastic place to be, quiet, comfortable and beautifully furnished."

But I may just be being a little picky about a few things that could be improved on. Not enough little side tables to place your drink on after a long day out. My 90 year old mother found someone's hair rollers on the floor of her bedroom, so the cleaning does not seem to be as scrupulous as it should be. No welcome pack, it's always nice to arrive after a long long journey to find a mixture of local bit's and pieces, tea, coffee and milk, and like most other places, a bottle of wine. No info as what to do with the rubbish, or a visitor's book for your comments. I'm sorry, I do not mean to put anyone off staying at the Glebe, we enjoyed every single minute, and would like to highly recommend this place to stay at. If you are looking for piece and quiet with beautiful country side and hills to drive through, this is certainly the place for you.

  • "The property was great for space and in a quiet location."

The property location described by Sykes needs amendments. It's actually 30miles from Inverness not 25 and its approx. 6miles from Tain not 15. Site also states pub 5.9miles... No.. there is a pub/Inn about 400mtrs.away! Unfortunately the cleaning could have been better, tables and headboard of the bed needed dusting and the grill rack in the oven needed some serious elbow grease applied before use. The main let down though was the shortage of utensils/crockery in the kitchen considering it is supposed to be for up to 6 people. Why have 3 bread knives which are only good for cutting bread and don't have a cooks/chefs knife at all. There needed to be more pans and larger plates(only 2). Don't get me wrong, it's a nice bungalow in a really quiet and convenient location but for anyone intending to do a lot of self catering, it needs some serious additions to the equipment provided. There were only two of us staying there and we found the shortage of kitchen equipment inconvenient at times.

The master bedroom and the bathrooms are huge. the 2 other bedrooms squeeze in a double bed (one has a wardrobe the other only has bedside cabinets.) The kitchen is really spacious and well equipped. WiFi works well as does the Freeview TV. Underfloor heating was good too. You can watch the deer most mornings at breakfast. The Shandwick Inn provides takeaway meals with huge portions and is a 5min walk away. The railway line is next to the house but we never really noticed the trains at all as they pass within a few seconds. Nice walks/drives from the bungalow. Close by were some llamas and emus, and 10mins drive away near Nigg were fields of deer. Shandwick beach is really nice and deserted. Also the drive up to John OGroats and Dunnet Head is really scenic (takes about 2hrs). Slight negatives: coffee table had biscuit crumbs on it and the fridge had milk/cream spillage dried onto the shelf when we arrived and the patio doors/windows didnt look as if they had been cleaned in months so had to clean some myself to appreciate the views better. Also the garden could do with a bit of tidying up so that it reflects the internal appearance of the bungalow. All in all - a nice quiet place to get away from it all and explore the Highlands.

The owner was there to welcome us and explain a few details like how to use the cooker, to help us settle in quickly. Loved the luxury of a dressing room and the large bed was very comfy. This cottage was well equipped for the two of us, but we did think that it could have done with more crockery and cutlery if it was going to sleep the 6 it was designed for. The cottage was well placed to explore the north of Scotland. We even headed up to John O'Groats on one day and visited the Queen Mother's Mey Castle. It was also only 90 minutes to cross to the west, which we did on one occasion to head up Stac Pollaidh for stunning views and to explore this exceptionally beautiful area, especially the coastal road to Lochinver. More locally we climbed Ben Wyvis, a beautiful and relatively easy Munro, and enjoyed exploring Cromarty, Dornoch, Dunrobin Castle and watched dolphins from Chanonry Point. A lovely week.

Information leading yo to arrival was spot on. The Shandwick Inn was great for food and only a few mins walk from the property. Our constructive criticism, for a premium price cottage, is that it needs some TLC and small touches to match the premium price. Some examples: - bath towels that are thin and don’t even wrap around you - pillows on bed were wafer thin - booked for 5 adults but only 4 outside chairs of very average quality - no guide for operating some of the amenities - no guide book re local places to visit etc - no welcome pack ( milk, bread, etc) which we have found on most self catering places - wall outside has numerous loose bricks On there own, small things but we are judging this on the price paid in comparisons to other places we have stayed this year alone.

The garden was an unexpected bonus - much larger than I was anticipating & with great views. The WiFi was more than adequate for four people using it simultaneously. We had no problems with the Internet whatsoever. The property is well located to easily access all that this delightful area has to offer, whether that be wild countryside, stunning coast, historical attractions or the city of Inverness. The photos & blurb on the website just don't do this place justice. Minor details around the house that could be improved:No wastebin in main toilet, a little maintenance to doors as some were catching on floor and kitchen patio door was a little hard to unlock/lock. Might benefit from mirrors in all bedrooms. Extra toilet rolls in each bathroom wouldn’t go a miss. A nice welcoming gesture for the owners to consider is a small welcome pack ie: bottle of wine nibbles or packet of biscuits (as other cottages we’ve been too we’ve received welcome pack of milk, eggs, small food hamper & wine. Just something to consider) Having 2 dogs with us when we cleared up dog mess there was no facility to dispose of it so a outside dog waste bin would be good.

You can walk to the pub have a fantastic meal or even a take-away! The cottage’s garden was far bigger than expected so for The Girls (my 2 peedie dogs) it was fantastic. The first morning I woke up to 9 deer in the field directly in front of the aspect which was once in a lifetime moment, & sporadically they would come out of the Forrest in the following mornings, just magical. The Red Kites found the dogs fascinating whilst playing in the garden they’d fly in circles around us making us know they were there by calling. The only couple of things that would make it perfect as there is plenty of room would be a freezer for frozen goodies & a dryer as I think if you had more than just myself drying clothes on the airer it would be challenging, however I did manage. I honestly didn’t want to leave the cottage I found it so homely, however appointments in Inverness meant we had too, I’d love to come back for a holiday & it will be first on my list for travelling South now. We hope to be back to this special cottage very soon.

About the location

INVERGORDON

Tain 15 miles; Inverness 25 miles.

Dating back to the 18th Century, the town of Invergordon sits on the Cromarty Firth, on Scotland's rugged east coast, and is ideally situated in the centre of the Eastern Highlands. In and around the town are a good selection of shops, pubs and restaurants, as well as a regular Friday market, selling fresh food and other produce. The only deep water port in the area, the town is well established as a port of call for the large cruise liners which regularly stop there from North West Europe and Scandinavia. With the beauty of Easter Ross on the doorstep, the town makes a fine location to spend a holiday touring this part of the Scottish Highlands.
