  • "A perfect place to stay for 4 people."

Less than a five minute drive to Hawshead. Nice and clean, Welcome book very informative. Smart tv, and good free Wi-Fi. Very comfy couches and beds, with top quality bedding and towels provided. Nice home touches like tea towels, washing up liquid and had soap. Nice decor. Will stay again.

Hi, thanks for your comments. It’s great to hear from people enjoying Latterbarrow as much as we do. We’d love for you stay again! Property Owner

  • "We (couple and two toddlers) spent two lovely weeks at Latterbarrow."

It is a very quiet, relaxing area, yet only ten minutes from Ambleside. We enjoyed the pub down the road, and there are some nice paths nearby for evening walks.

  • "Very well furnished in an excellent location."

Sparkling clean. Beautifully kept communal gardens with two private sitting areas with lovely views, sadly the weather didn’t allow us to make the most of these. Good pub just two minutes away but also not far from Hawkshead and Ambleside for more restaurant choices and shops. Definitely recommend this property and trying to find a date to return.

  • "The washing machine is not fit for purpose as it is SO dirty."

Also a welcome pack would have been nice or even a welcome note. However for the money we paid it was very good and has nice views and a nice area to sit out front and we welcome the fact that the owner allowed us to change dates at such short notice. Thank you to him.

Hello Hilary. Thanks for the feedback, it’s great to receive some focus on the things that need our attention. We’ll make sure the washing machine issue is resolved ASAP. (I’m pleased you found the washer after our quick chat otherwise we’d never have known it needed looking at). We’d love to welcome you to stay at Latterbarrow again for you to see the improvements related to your feedback. We’ve always included a welcome note in our information folder, please look out for the large pink ring binder in the lounge area. In there we keep helpful information that we think might be useful to aid the enjoyment of your stay (including information as to the whereabouts of said washing machine). No need for thanks regards the short notice for booking rearranging. We understand the complexities of modern life and will always try to be as flexible and accommodating as possible. We do however really appreciate your feedback ending on a positive note. We are also really pleased to hear you enjoyed the patio and fantastic views as much as we do. Best regards Nic. • "We had a lovely week in the Lake District."

Lovely little hamlet, great locals and pub and some nice easy walks on the doorstep ideal for us with a young family. Beautiful views out the back garden across the Lake District too. The cottage was on one floor so no worry about stairs and had lovely garden space for running about in. The cottage had all the facilities we needed and was excellent on this front. As our first time to the Lakes, we will definately be returning. The apartment was good. We were overall pleased with it. Just a few things: The smell of the plug ins was unbelievably overwhelming when we went in. This is more down to our issues than the cottage i suppose, but a little headache inducing. We unplugged it. There was something in the twin beds room that made our daughters allergies flare up. All we know is she was fine when we switched rooms. Again more our issue but brings me to my next point regarding cleanliness which makes me query this. We were told it was cleaned to Covid standards. On first inspection the cottage was genererally clean, but on closer inspection it was a bit dusty in the bathroom, and the white living room rug wasn't particulalry white anymore. Great harbourers of dust. Lastly, the TV or music of the people upstairs was so loud at night. From about 9pm til about 1130 ish. Not great when knackered from a day walking and want to sleep. Again, suppose our luck of the draw in them being here at the same time. Lastly, the cottage grounds are kept lovely. Except it would be useful to know when the gardener with his strimmer and blower are coming over at 6pm-8pm right at our daughters bed time. The gardener was lovely and really understanding and worked promptly. It just would have been good to know he was coming and so late in the day and we would have encouraged our daughter to nap that day rather then have the tired grisly day we had the day after as she went to bed late.

Thank you for the feedback. Latterbarrow has been booked up for a long period so we’ve not had the chance to personally check up on things. Your feedback has enabled us to focus on issues which we were unaware of until now. We have instigated the following changes:- > Guests often change the settings on the plug in freshener to suit their own tastes, we will ensure the cleaner sets this to the lowest setting for new arrivals. We will also speak with the cleaner to ensure a deep clean is undertaken ASAP! We chose a cream coloured rug intentionally so that any dirt/grime could easily be spotted and quickly addressed. Thanks to your detailed feedback we are now in the process of ordering a replacement. We were sorry to hear about the unwanted noise, and will bring this to the attention of Claife (property above) and the gardening company.” Property Owner

It's not really a cottage but it's well fitted out, clean and very comfortable. We would certainly return at some point.

We found plenty to do during our 4 night stay. The apartment was very clean and well equipped with comfortable beds and great literature left by the owners giving us lots of ideas of things to do. We particularly appreciated the Wainwright collection, which makes good reading while you pick your next walk.

  • "Lovely holiday superb wee cottage!"

Very quiet location but not too far away from anything we needed. Loved the little box of home bakes half way up the road to the cottage, gave my boys their pudding after a lovely meal at The Outgate Inn. The nearest town, Hawkshead, isn’t too far away with a lovely walk to get there. Good choices of places to eat and drink. Lots of info given at the cottage for things to do in and around The Lake District. Would definitely go back!

About the location

HAWKSHEAD

Ambleside 5.1 miles; Kendal 17.4 miles.

The picturesque village of Hawkshead still retains the charm and character that so endeared it to its most famous residents - William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter. Visitors can wander the wealth of tiny alleyways, thoroughfares, archways and courtyards between the whitewashed 17th century houses. There are many pleasant inns, teashops, guest houses and gift shops in the village, as well as the Beatrix Potter Gallery, which houses an annually changing exhibition of the famous author’s illustrations and stories. The other famous Hawkshead enthusiast, William Wordsworth, attended the Old Grammar School in 1779-87, which still stands today, and you can visit the building where the Lakeland poet developed his love of the form, and even see the desk into which he scratched his name as a small boy! Newby Bridge is ten miles away and offers attractions such as the Aquarium of the Lakes and Windermere Lake Cruises, sailing daily between Ambleside, Bowness and Lakeside. With stunning scenery and numerous attractions within easy touring distance, Hawkshead is in an ideal location at any time of the year.
