  • "We received such a warm welcome from the owners, the cottage was exceptionally clean and well equipped in such a beautiful setting looking onto Hury reservoir, so peaceful and we were so lucky with beautiful weather."

Would love to return and hope to do so next year.

  • "Lovely cottages."

Beautiful peaceful surroundings. All facilities were great. Shower not very powerful but managed fine as enjoyed hot bath each night. Driving a must to be able to visit all places or shops etc. Barnard castle/high street and high force waterfall a must see. Only recommendation is to drive to the local reservoir instead of trying to walk down from the cottage as no footpath actually planned out. You have to go through fields and bit of a trek.

  • "We loved the quiet location and wildlife/walks from the door."

The sofas and beds were very comfortable and the welcome gift was a kind thought. The oven was also easy to use and the fire lit immediately! Lovely relaxing stay.

  • "We stayed here with our twin six year old boys and our rottweiler for 4 nights."

The cottage and its location are fantastic. It is very well equipped and comfortable. One point that may be a plus or negative dependent on your requirements is there is little or no mobile signal in the cottage itself and no WiFi is available.

Cottage was very well equipped, clean, cosy and comfortable. We loved having the use of the open fire. Plenty of beautiful walks so spoilt for choice. Peta and Tony were great hosts, very friendly and welcoming. We would highly recommend this cottage and look forward to returning.

  • "Lovely cottage for a few nights get away!"

Perfect Remote setting with beautiful views over the reservoir and plenty of farm life and walking routes around. Loved the open fire which we put on every night to make it even cosier. Bed really comfy, kitchen and shower ok too. Only small issue was because it was so remote we had no signal and soon realised there was no WiFi in the cottage (our fault we hadn’t noticed on the listing). Was nice to technically switch off so that wasn’t a problem, but we hadn’t really planned our days out so had to get signal from nearby towns to enabled us to plan our days activities. All worked out in the end and we loved our stay. Would definitely recommend!

  • "A beautiful cottage in wonderful quiet countryside."

Very cosy and welcoming and lovely homely touches...including welcoming biscuits for the dog! A great base for exploring the area, only downside was the weather so we'll have to go again in the dry!

  • "What a wonderful place to completely unwind!"

PETA and Tony could not have done more to make us feel welcome. The cottage is comfortably furnished with everything you need for your stay. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the garden in the evenings watching the housemartens dashing about catching flies to feed to their young in the nest by one of the cottage windows. Fair to say we’ll be back!!

They advised us on walking routes and Hury reservoir was a very easy two hour walk with the pooch. Places to eat in Barnard castle are plentiful from fine dining to fish and chips. The traditional street market on Wednesday is worth a look.A nice village to visit is Romalkirk just a couple of mile from the cottage nice pub lunch there. All in all a fantastic place we will be back.
