  • "We enjoyed a lovely stay over New Year at St Agnes."

The location is stunning and the house is quirky, and I say that in a good way. We brought quite a lot of items with us (just in case) which we didn't need as the house comes very well equipped. The house is tall and thin and occupies 4 floors, but is very cosy. The kitchen is a little tight but the house has a certain charm which we enjoyed very much. We would definitely stay again.

THANK YOIU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR VERY KIND COMMENTS AND A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR! YES ST.AGNES IS COSY AND QUIRKY AND SO PLEASED THAT YOU FOUND ALL THE ITEMS YOU NEED TO MAKE YOUR HOLIDAY PLEASURABLE. I LOOK FORWARD TO YOU ALL STAYING AND ENJOYING ST.AGNES AGAIN. Property Owner

  • "Loved the house."

Perfect location and it’s not just the wow view! We didn’t need to use the car as there was a good variety of walks and things to do within the immediate vicinity. Very homely feel to the house. Good Wi-Fi. Just a few cons that could be easily fixed: Shower valve in top bedroom is leaking so loss of pressure results in cold water. Mattresses in all rooms are poor (this is not just a matter of preference)

So pleased your enjoyed the homely feel of StAgnes. The faulty shower cartridge has been replaced. The beds now have memory foam mattress so will suit all guests now. Property Owner

  • "The position of St Agnes is incredible with beautiful ever changing views from all rooms, especially the lounge/dining room."

The beds and bedrooms are large and comfortable My only criticism is the lack of food storage and preparation space. There is one cupboard which is above the built-in oven, unless you're 6ft or over quite inaccessible so where are you to store breakfast cereals, tea, coffee, jam, marmalade, bread etc? the only place I came up with was on the hob! The only worktop is about 60cm x 60cm and houses the kettle and toaster leaving you with an area on around 30cm x 60cm to do any preparation - I'd suggest a double kitchen base unit with worktop put in the alcove on the opposite wall - not ideal but better than nothing and it would make good use of an unused wall Sorry for the criticism St Agnes is so nearly really wonderful just needs a way to make the kitchen work

We were not blessed with the weather this time, but it didn't matter - even in the rain it was stunning. We did not go too far and just enjoyed the local walks and some time in the Bay, it was perfect. The house has everything you could possibly need, the only thing we do is put away the beautiful glass bowl on the dining table as I am scared we will knock it off! We love it so much we have already booked for next year.

So special to receive your lovely review! I am absolutely delighted that you appreciate St Agnes as much as I do even in poor weather! What a compliment that you have booked next year as well ! Thank you .. Shan Property Owner

Didnt watch the tv once. Well equipped and comfortable property for us.Think if there was more than 4 people staying the living area would be cramped. • "The view and location was amazing."

Kitchen was well equipped although the wine glasses were very small and mugs well used. Can opener doesn’t work. We found the beds very uncomfortable and we left early as we had very little sleep. The sofa was also very uncomfortable and passed it’s best so it was very difficult to relax. The heating didn’t work, we followed the instructions carefully. I did leave a toiletries bag behind and it was posted back to me so that was good. Wi-Fi worked. Shower was good. Overall a bit shabby. I would not return.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed the lovely location and the views at St Agnes. In regards to the heating, a call to the Menai Holidays office could have sorted this issue out in minutes, it was due to pressure dropping. There are two kitchens in the property and should have been another can opener in the downstairs kitchen available to you. We have a variety of wine glasses of all sizes. Unfortunately with the beds it is just personal preference. The property was completely decorated last year. All other issues raised will be taken into consideration. Thanks again for your feedback. • "A tricky start to our stay at St Agnes, the door wouldn't open with the key provided, despite the best efforts of the Sykes team we were nearly 6 hours waiting round trying to find a solution, by the time we waved goodbye to the locksmith it was 10pm."

Seems the door had been deadlocked with a key that wasn't provided. The team at Sykes were very good and despite the somewhat false start to our holiday, I can't see what more they could have done to solve the issue. So thanks to Alice, martin and the Locksmith. We loved Borth Y Gest, a gem of a location, St Agnes is well positioned to benefit from the stunning views and the house felt part of the constant flow of tide and weather. Quite magical. The not so great bits.. The kitchen was a challenge and frustrating to use, there just isn't enough prep space. There is no storage space - so our shopping and groceries were kept in bags on the floor all week. Despite this we did manage prepare some great meals in the kitchen. Needs a Welsh Dresser The house was overall very clean but have to say the the living room was a bit grubby, paw prints on the sofa and the rug and throws smelled very doggy. The good bits We had a great holiday with some amazing walks and found locals friendly and welcoming. The view from the kitchen is magnificent, opening the bifold window created a marvellous perch to watch the wildlife - Heron and Cormorants fishing the incoming tide with a regular visit from a Peregrine Falcon. Watched Seals floating on the outgoing tide - amazing. The bed room on the top floor has a great view of the estuary - the shower was one of the best - ever. A wonderful location - recommended

So pleased you enjoyed St Agnes despite the lock becoming dead locked which as you know I have now replaced. Yes I agree there could be more prep space for cooking but when I refurbished St Agnes the kitchen designer said there was no other way to give more space without disturbing the beautiful views. I hope you return one day to stunning Borth y Gest . Shan Property Owner

  • "The location of this property is absolutely perfect."

A different view minute by minute and great access to the bay and beaches. There was everything we needed to make ourselves comfortable and quickly get settled in. The house is full of really interesting features and the tri fold doors giving a stunning view across the bay and beyond. A couple of teeny things - the sofa is very low, we sat outside a great deal as the weather was lovely - might be more difficult if you are inside longer. There are too many glasses in the cupboard (and on display) and that made me nervous as they looked very precious. We put the glass bowl on the dining table away for the week, “just in case!” That aside we had a truly wonderful time - don’t be worried about the amount of stairs - I am not very mobile and managed perfectly well. We couldn’t park in the street but always found a space in the car park - easier to unload into the back garden from there. Thank you, we would love to come back.

DEAR JULIE, IT IS SO LOVELY TO HEAR THAT MY GUESTS HAVE HAD A GOOD TIME. THANK YOU I AGREE THE SOFA IS A BIT LOW BUT IN GOOD ORDER .HOWEVER THE NEW SOFA IS OF NORMAL HEIGHT. I AGREE THERE PROBABLY ARE TOO MANY GLASSES BUT I LIKE TO GIVE A CHOICE TO MY GUESTS. I LOVE ST.AGNES AND TRY AND MAKE IT HOMELY AS POSSIBLE FOR MY GUESTS. • "We had a lovely stay at St Agnes."

You really cannot beat the location and the view. This is truly a gem of a property with a view that you would never tire of seeing. We did however feel that the following facilities within the cottage needed to be updated to provide greater comfort. 1. New sofa in the living room - it really wasn’t comfy and was too small being a tiny 2 seater and I ended up going to bed early each night just to get comfy. 2. The dishwasher was all rusty inside and the top draw runner was broken and was difficult to close. Toaster also broken. 3. The beds had so many layers of duvets and mattress protectors under the fitted sheet to clearly make them comfier but really they just need replacing with a decent mattress. 4. Sun lounger in the garden is broken and has had repair but it broke again whilst we were there. 5. There is no 4G or WIFI at the property. This makes it difficult to plan days out or watch movies at night. Also I had some work I needed to do and wasn’t able since there was no connection. I had to drive to Tesco carpark to get decent 4G signal. Whilst it’s nice to not have mobile phones on the go whilst on holiday it would have made a big difference to us if WIFI were available. Just an observation is that the stairs from the ground floor to the 2 floors below are difficult for anyone over 5ft5inch since you would need to bend down to avoid hitting your head. The top 2 floors had decent head clearance but the bottom 2 floors were difficult for my husband (6ft4) who hit his head quite a few times. We loved: 1. the view from the bifold doors/kitchen 2. The new Bae Birth deli cafe bar opposite 3. Water pressure was good and the shower was brilliant. 4. Relaxing in the roll top bath looking out to sea 5. The coastal walks from the doorstep 6. Swimming in the bay when the tide is in 7. The garden with its own kitchen (quiet, sun all day) 8. The shops in Porthmadog 9. The Golden Fleece for food in Tremadog 10. Mountainous Walks around Beddgelert and Moel y Gest

Thank you for your feedback, these additional features will be added. A new sofa, new mattress, new dishwasher and WiFi being installed July . Property Owner

  • "We loved our stay in this delightful property in an amazing location."

We got the ‘wow’ factor as soon as we went in through the front door. Borth y Gest was a great find for us and is unspoilt with many walks from there. We discovered the walk to Porthmadog (not following the road) towards the end of our week and also walked to Portmeirion. So many places to visit. The heron outside our window was amazing as were all the other estuary visitors! One thing to mention was that we think an extra key would have been helpful. Thoroughly enjoyed our week’s stay here.

Thank you for your kind comments. I really appreciate them. I will certainly get another key cut. A very good idea. Property Owner

  • "Our second visit to this tall, slim terrace house with a room on each of the 4 floors."

We are in our mid 70s but managed the steep flights of stairs (about 35 steps in total) despite arthritic knee. Certainly big enough for the 2 of us with a good bath in the middle of one bedroom and an excellent spacious shower in the corner of another bedroom but suggest non slip mat and wall handle needed as the tiles are very slippery when wet. Efficient towel rails and heating. Views of course are lovely and it was pleasant watching the activities on the water as the tide ebbs and flows . Access to the garden is through the basement so it was useful to have a small kitchenette there to brew up or chill the wine to enjoy outside. Only criticism is the size of the living area…the kitchen section is adequate but has hardly any worktop space. The chaise-longue in the window is fine for one but no more and takes up valuable space. There is enough seating for 4/5 without it. The room was ok for two but I imagine very cramped for more on a rainy day! Having said that, we love the place and surroundings and hopefully will return!

Particularly it’s setting and beautiful views. The firmness of the beds and lack of choice of pillows are an issue and not having any wi-fi is a big disadvantage especially as phone signals can be sketchy. Maintaining holiday lets can be challenging especially with Saniflow toilets and so the sheer number of reminders of do’s and don’ts is possibly necessary. It was unfortunate one of the bath towels had a large hole in it as this was probably missed when it was laundered.

The cottage is well equipped, with everything you could possibly need, we even cooked a roast dinner. Stunning walks and great coffee shop across the bay. Parking was simple in the adjacent carpark, and the charges were extremely reasonable. We chose to use the car park to support the local economy and not clog up the street for the local residents. Porthmadog 1.2 miles; Criccieth 6 miles.

Borth-y-Gest is a quiet Welsh seaside village of mainly Victorian houses retaining much charm and character. Located by the mouth of the River Glaslyn, and a short drive away from the Italian styled village of Portmeirion, this pretty Welsh village has stunning panoramic views over the sands and estuary to the historic Harlech Castle and the Snowdonia National Park beyond. This North Wales village has two bistros and a coffee lounge all located on the front overlooking the bay and all with dog-friendly outdoor seating areas; perfect places to while away the hours watching the comings and goings of the local boatmen. Borth-y-Gest, with its sheltered coves and sandy beaches, has walking in abundance; why not head up Moel-y-Gest or take a wander over the headland to the famous Black Rock Sands, or go a little further afield where the vast Snowdonia National Park awaits?
