  • "This holiday was our second at Bryn y Mor and we would very much like to book again soon."

A really family feel and just the rest and fresh air break we needed. Clare from Menai holidays couldn’t have been more welcoming and helpful - and the owner also .

  • "Lovely, lovely house."

So peaceful and relaxing. There were six of us staying this time, we all had plenty of space to do our own thing or come together to eat, play games and chat. The views are spectacular no matter which room you choose to stay in. The beaches are within a 10 - 15 minute walk on the beach path. The town and nearest supermarkets are about 10 miutes by car.

  • "Stunning location, views of the sea and mountains from the living room and kitchen, and the view from the main bedroom balcony was amazing."

The house is more like a family home than a holiday let, full of personal homely items. Bed linen and towels were clean,as were kitchen and bathroom work surfaces but there were some cleaning issues elsewhere, especially the bedroom down the steps, above the garage, many old cobwebs, and also across the ceiling in the main bedroom bathroom. The garden is lovely, but in danger of becoming overgrown. I suggest that the instructions for the dishwasher, microwave etc could be placed in the information package and left out,we had to hunt through the kitchen drawers for them! And what a shame that the garden pond has neglected, there are photos of it in its full glory in the living room. All in all,a superb location and an interesting comfortable place to stay - with some attention over the coming years this place could, and should, be outstanding.

  • "Bryn Y Mor is in a beautiful quiet spot with stunning views."

Porthmadog with all the essential shops is only a 5 minutes drive away. Going west there’s the Llyn Peninsula, south is Harlech and Barmouth, North is Caernarfon and Ynys Mon and going east your into the heart of Snowdonia. The property itself is well equipped in all respects, spacious, feels uncrowded with rooms enough to “escape”. The garden was full of colourful rhododendrons, laburnum and wisteria along with playful rabbits, crows, squirrels and many other garden birds. The AGA cooker was easy to use but allow extra time for cooking. We had a genuinely wonderful family holiday here!

  • "The house occupies an amazing position with stunning views."

It is a large house with loads of space and good facilities. It is a great place to stay and relax with easy access to the nearby beaches. It has not been redecorated despite the website mentioning it and the decor is a bit tired and dated. There were some cobwebs and other signs that the cleaning regime could be improved. However, these minor issues are more than compensated for by the quiet location, views and space the house offers.

  • "This is the third time that we have stayed at this property."

We love the quirky place and the kitchen is very welcoming. The lounge is very comfortable. The main bedroom with the outside veranda gives wonderful views of the rabbit wildlife and the sea. The bathroom onsuite is very outstanding. The gardens need a bit of tlc has everything is overgrowing, but we love the gardens and watching the rabbits and wildlife. The place is very quite as it is off the beaten track, but you have the coastal path on your doorstep to view the beauitful beaches.

  • "This is our fourth time staying here."

We absolutely love this house! The views are spectacular and there are lovely beaches within short walking distances. The house is large, and airy with a big garden. There is plenty of room for everyone to relax and do their own thing but also space for playing games and chatting, cooking and eating together. Portmadog is a short drive away and has all the amenities you would need on a seaside holiday and within a reasonable distance of many other activities and attractions. If you are looking for a quiet, peaceful getaway then I highly recommend Bryn y Mor.

  • "In the details it stated that the property has been updated and new pictures to come."

It hasn’t been done yet. The property does need decorating, damp in the kitchen to the left of doors to patio area. Didn’t bother us about the decore, beautiful views. Could do with a bigger dustbin outside, that’s not a negative just a suggestion. There wasn’t enough bath towels when we arrived, I spoke to the contact number twice, and they didn’t sort it. I spoke to the owner on the Friday of our first week, he sorted it and we got the towels the next day.

Access to beach could be a bit tricky for anyone impaired walking or frail ,though not in our case and well worth it . Lovely walks along coastal paths right from house.

  • "Bryn y Mor is a fantastic house in a great location, with loads of fantastic places to sit and relax inside and outside."

The facilities are great everything you need in the kitchen although you do need to adapt to the Aga. The views are fantastic from all rooms in the house would recommend this for a gathering or family group and really good value. The response to problems while we were there was great from the owners. Menai office team took a bit longer and never actually messaged when one of the showers broke (on top of one that we already couldn't use in the property), we just received an email to contact them that I had to look for in my emails. Still no follow on information on this from the Menai office team

  • "Disappointed at poor standard of cleaning evident on arrival."

Many cobwebs in numerous rooms which had clearly been there for some time. The lounge area had debris including dead insects and dust around skirting and edges of the room. Artificial flowers and shell/basket weave decorations are in dire need of cleaning. Whilst kitchen cutlery appeared clean, the cutlery holder in drawer was dirty with food debris and dust and required cleaning. Kitchen surfaces were clean as was linen provided. Sinks and showers were clean but, in current circumstances, we would have expected a more thorough cleaning regime. It was disappointing that the shower in the Family bathroom was out of order. Whilst the photographs show rooms and furniture in the property, they don't show that the property is "tired" and in need of decorating. Saving graces are layout of lounge, kitchen diner and patio and, of course, the location and views. This could be a spectacular property with more attention.

Thank you for sending in your review. The Owners and Menai were very surprised to receive this as the house receives so many positive reviews and regular returning customers. The Owners have spent a great deal of time during the last year refurbishing and upgrading the property. They will, of course, look at the things you mention, check and remedy if necessary. • "Bryn Y Mor is a wonderful spacious house with the most amazing sea views out of nearly every window."

There are interesting knick knacks everywhere and is obviously a very much loved family home rather than just a holiday home. The owners were very helpful and contacted us before our visit to let us know that one of the four showers was out of action. Our four year old grandson loved the library where he could watch TV and play undisturbed with his toys. There is so much to see and do nearby. There are just a couple of suggestions to improve the experience. The Aga cooker which was a novel way to cook, heated the kitchen and also the bedroom above it far too much making it very uncomfortable sleeping during a hot week. Also we felt that all the 4 showers are in need of upgrading along with some other appliances such as the electric kettle and TV's. We did have a wonderful family holiday though and would still recommend this holiday rental to others.

  • "A fabulous house with a lovely garden in a quiet and beautiful location with stunning views from all windows and everything you could want to enjoy a relaxing holiday."

We were slightly nervous about cooking on the AGA but it was so easy to use. Situated just outside Porthmadog which has all necessary amenities, just a few minutes drive or a nice walk along the coastal path. The location is central for visiting the many attractions on the Lleyn Peninsula and the Snowdonia National Park. There are two beaches near the property within a 4 and 8 minute walk and some lovely coastal walks straight from the property. We thoroughly enjoyed our two week stay and would recommend the property although there are few areas that could benefit from a bit of TLC and house keeping.

  • "We had a great time."

The house is brilliantly situated for access to a beautiful sandy cove which is good for playing games and the rocks provide an excellent fishing spot. Inside the house is spacious with beautiful views over the estuary from most windows. The kitchen area is warm and appealing and leads out onto a patio for sitting/eating outside. The bedrooms were excellent with plenty of space. The very pretty garden forms the first part of the short path down to the cove. It was all lovely.

  • "Large well positioned family house with magnificent views over beaches from inside and out."

Plenty of bedrooms and shower rooms. Lovely bathroom to main double room and a balcony. Large lounge but we spent most evenings round the table in the open plan kitchen diner with the French windows open. Found the AGA a challenge but instruction book/ cook book left for us which helped greatly. This has obviously been a happy family home and it has a good feel to it.

About the location

BORTH-Y-GEST

Porthmadog 1.2 miles; Criccieth 6 miles.

Borth-y-Gest is a quiet Welsh seaside village of mainly Victorian houses retaining much charm and character. Located by the mouth of the River Glaslyn, and a short drive away from the Italian styled village of Portmeirion, this pretty Welsh village has stunning panoramic views over the sands and estuary to the historic Harlech Castle and the Snowdonia National Park beyond. This North Wales village has two bistros and a coffee lounge all located on the front overlooking the bay and all with dog-friendly outdoor seating areas; perfect places to while away the hours watching the comings and goings of the local boatmen. Borth-y-Gest, with its sheltered coves and sandy beaches, has walking in abundance; why not head up Moel-y-Gest or take a wander over the headland to the famous Black Rock Sands, or go a little further afield where the vast Snowdonia National Park awaits? For a day out you can take a trip on the famous Ffestiniog Steam Railway and Welsh Highland Railway from Porthmadog, only a 15 minutes' walk away, or for those with younger children why not visit the shorter but more child-focussed Welsh Highland Heritage Railway? For a day trip the entire Llyn Peninsula calls. With Anglesey within reach and the whole North Wales coast with the Wales Coast Path to be explored, Borth-y-Gest has it all: a quiet bolt hole but conveniently located for ease of access to this stunning area, a must at any time of the year.
