  • "This is a great spacious cottage, very clean with a very well stocked kitchen."

The bathroom is very large and there were plenty of large towels. The owner met us on arrival for a chat. The only downside is the road, if you wanted to walk to the pub or shop the first part has no footpath. We had a great stay

  • "The standard of cleanliness and attention to detail of the accommodation at The Old Power House Cottage 1 is indeed excellent."

Visitors are spoilt with the comfort of their surroundings and can be safe in the knowledge that the kitchen and bathroom are amply stocked for every eventuality however it must be noted for future guests that there is a WiFi curfew in place between the hours of 8pm and 8am every day. Obviously for guests not wishing to use streaming services or Internet during these hours this will have no relevance but unfortunately for us it presented as a nuisance. Also the lack of pavement on the road exiting the property impacted on our willingness to explore the area on foot which again was unfortunate but not insurmountable.

Sharon, there never has been nor will be, a curfew on the wi-fi. Since your stay we have discovered that a previous guest had, unbeknown to us, changed the settings for the Wi-Fi. We have now restored the access to 24 hours a day. I’m sorry that this happened and hope that it didn’t detract too much from enjoying your stay at the cottage. Mary Property Owner

  • "The use of the laundry needs a rethink as the owner wrote to say we were allocated Monday & Tuesday between 9-5 only which did not work at all for our needs."

Mary the owner said due to high costs of utilities plus someone using the laundry for just one tee shirt she had to put these measures in place.

Elisabeth, I did offer to keep it open later for you before overnight lockup, but you didn’t take advantage of this, I am sorry you felt like this, but we need to keep costs down to maintain our prices at this low level for everyone. We are glad you enjoyed your stay in our cottage. Mary Property Owner

There are many places to visit - the Shobden airfield is nearby, Tenbury Wells, Hay on Wye are nice for a day out. There are also National Trust properties nearby. • "This was a return visit having stayed at The Old Power House Cottage 1 last September."

For us this was an excellent base to visit friends across the border in Wales, while also introducing us to the delights of Herefordshire and the Border counties. Mary and Tony couldn’t have been more helpful or friendly on both visits and were on hand just a few yards away if required. Spacious, comfortable accommodation. Sorry to see they are selling up and would return if the new owners continue with letting the cottages to the same high standard.

Very well equipped, clean, comfortable accommodation and a friendly welcome from our hosts. The bedroom and bathroom are both huge. Ludlow is an easy drive away and it provides a good range of shops. The Cider Barn near Pembridge offers fabulous food and cider, of course! Had a great stay with friends who stayed in the adjoining cottage.

  • "Very nice and unusually spacious holiday cottage, immaculately kept, in a peaceful area."

Owners very helpful and welcoming, and we appreciate the extra effort they have to go to in making self-catering accommodation available at the current time. Directions on Sykes web site are not adequate to find cottage (and, bizarrely, start from Birmingham without actually saying that is where they start from!) - it needed a conversation with the owners to locate it (perhaps this is intended).

  • "The cottage and location for touring the area was excellent."

The hosts Ann and Tony were friendly and helpful. The only downside for us personally was the noise of industrial traffic on the road when you are sat outside, or have the windows or doors open, which we had to do as it was exceptionally hot. No problem when inside with the doors shut.

  • "The week which we spent at the Old Power House Cottage was not actually a holiday, but rather a week spent house hunting in the area."

The cottage was a perfect base from which to do this and as such it satisfied our needs 100%. For anybody intending to spend a holiday in the area, we would recommend the cottage. It is clean, comfortable, and very well appointed. The owners were friendly without being intrusive, the location is very pleasant, and the village of Shobdon is a good centre for exploring the delights of the area (we were actually looking at properties to buy in the village as well as further afield), and also has a good village shop (quite a rarity these days) and a nice pub, the Bateman Arms. All in all a very good week.
