  • "The description of this property on Hotels."

Com said that it has a free parking space, that was the main reason why I chose to stay here. But it was not the case - after paying, we got another email from the Sykes saying that we had to park somewhere else and payment incurred. Strong smell of damp when we first entered. The oven was not cleaned and oily everywhere. The rooms and bathroom were fine.

  • "This was booked 12 months in advance and marketed as having two parking spaces, only when we arrived we had to park in a public car park at an extra cost of £38."

50 per week per car. As you can imagine we were not best pleased and feel we should have been informed before arriving at the property. Accommodation was comfortable but needed a TLC. Would be grateful for your comments reference parking.

  • "The bed was very comfortable, and bedrooms nicely furnished and quiet thanks to double windows."

No hair dryer, which is highly unusual. Sofa was not very comfortable and rather shabby, and because of its design we had to crawl onto it. Not ideal for older people. Kitchen was poorly equipped, no teapot, no way to make coffee, only one glass tumbler. We didn't use the cooker. Bathroom is in need of attention. Paintwork shabby and looking dirty in the corners, toilet flush still not mended despite review of another guest last August. Shower worked very well. Unable to clean floors on last morning because the vacuum cleaner was not working. Our stay was comfortable enough, as we were out most of the time and ate our meals with family who live locally, so we were only there for evenings and overnight. Overall, it was acceptable.

Cottage had great facilities and was in a fantastic location close to train station and bus station It could do with a really good deep clean and a new flush for the toilet but apart from these two things it was ideal for a two night stay for four people

Neighbour brushes all mess upto the stairs making it look like a mess, watched her through window & also upon arrival we caught the cleaner sat watching TV around 1pm & she told us we had to come back at 3 but we watched her leave 30 mins later & the place wasn't very clean, especially bathroom with hairs & dirt all over the floor & toilet

  • "This appartment had mould in almost every room."

Not a great smell - with the chemicals trying their level best to disguise it. The property, is almost perpetually, hermetically sealed. Not serious but worth mentioning, there was some half eaten food in the fridge and a cleaning bucket on the kitchen table.

Hi Warrick, Thank you for your feedback, and sorry the property wasn’t ready for you on your arrival, I can only imagine that the cleaners completed the normal comprehensive cleaning as normal, I will follow this up to ensure this doesn’t happen again. With regards to the damp and mould, I have had desiccant dehumidifier with permanent draining installed in the last 2 months which has rectified a lot of the damp issues, I just hope it was turned on during your stay, it is normally on 24/7 via a timer. As you may be able to appreciate this is a 200+ year old building made of granite and damp is an issue in all building of this design. I apologize for these inconveniences and I hope it doesn’t put you off from maybe staying here again. Property Owner

  • "This flat is in a great location, yes it’s on a busy road but triple glazing in the bedrooms means you can’t hear any traffic."

Bed & sofa was comfortable, a nice big tv & the shower was good. Kitchen & bathroom are dated but has everything you need. Really does need a deep clean though but would not put me off staying again. Although it has no parking we bought a weekly ticket which you could use on other car parks in the south lakes & the car park was right behind the flat only 2 minutes walk away.

Hi Tracy, Thank you for your kind words and comments and I can confirm that a thorough deep clean was carried the following week.. Should you stay here again a bottle wine will be awaiting your stay Property Owner

  • "I stayed in this accommodation with my wife and son and we were all impressed with it."

The place was clean, spacious and there were lots of facilities. The accommodation is well presented and looked after, it's in a nice location and the car park is very close. It's located close to the town centre and there are lots of nice cafés, pubs and restaurants a short walk away. We will definitely stay here again in the future.

  • "We arrived to find the flat had not been cleaned."

Sykes did a good job of contacting the cleaning supplier and getting it sorted but as we had arrived Saturday am and change over day was Friday this is unacceptable and we ended up wasting the first day of our holiday. The cleaners are separate to Sykes so it’s not their fault but as other reviewers have mentioned the same problem there’s obviously an issue. The flat has nice new furniture but is generally a bit grubby, needing a good deep clean, and the kitchen could do with some updating. The kitchen facilities are also limited - only 4 forks(!) There’s also damp patches with mould and a funny smell. Stuff we brought home smells damp! We knew the flat was next to a road but didn’t realise how busy a main road/how noisy it would be and it’s next to a pedestrian crossing with constant beeping! Would not recommend for a family with young kids.

We fully appreciate and apologise for the cleaning problem experienced at our cottage. We employ the largest cleaner of holiday cottages in Cumbria and they have several mechanisms in place to ensure this scenario should never happen - to us or any other holiday cottage. We will be investigating this further with the cleaning company to ensure this never happens again. The furniture has all been replaced within the last twelve months and the kitchen facilities have all been updated. The damp patch has been addressed and is now resolved. Once again, we apologise for the issues you had during your stay Property Owner

  • "When we arrived at the flat there was glass on the door mat where the glass had been damaged in door."

The main areas where clean but could do with a deep clean but was ok. the facilities and design and design, location where very good.

Thank you for your kind comments, and I apologise for the broken glass, it was due to an attempted break in, luckily the guy was caught and went to court. We try to do a deep clean very two to three months, but with the change over schedules being extremely tight, it’s sometimes difficult to to carry out the thorough clean that’s require, I know the cleaning company work very hard to present the property to the required standards. Should you stay here again I will ensure a bottle of wine is awaiting you on arrival. Thank you Gordon. Property Owner

  • "Flat 2 Galloway House is a lovely flat and is in a great location in Kendal, near shops, restaurants, pubs and also Kendal train station."

On emails sent to us, check in time was specified as after 3pm however when we arrived there was someone still cleaning the flat, who informed us that check in was actually after 4pm contrary to what we had previously been told. In addition, due to unforeseen circumstances they didn’t finish cleaning the flat until after 5pm, which was slightly annoying. The door to the flat was also very difficult to open, but we found the key safe used to check in worked well. The flat was clean with exception to some stains on the bedding and carpet, and some of the oven trays appeared not to have been washed. Overall our stay was very enjoyable with exception to the issues when checking in.

  • "We arrived Sunday afternoon to find the window pane (outer pane only) of the front door broken so there were bits of glass on the outside mat."

Going inside, it was obvious that the flat hadn't been cleaned. There was a bin bag of rubbish on the kitchen floor. There was a huge pile of dirty linen and towels on the floor in the bathroom. Fortunately we arrived early enough to be able to contact the local number who were in charge of maintenance. I finally got through to somebody who said that the flat was not on their cleaning list. She promised to get somebody over to us. The flat was eventually cleaned that evening. I hate to think what might have happened if we had been late arriving. It was all totally unacceptable. I tried ringing your office a number of times. I was actually going to write a formal letter of complaint to you today, but I got the email request for feedback first.
