  • "This is a fantastic property ."

Spacious, clean, well thought out with windows and doors everywhere to take in the great view of the tarn . It is well maintained and there is even a very friendly member of staff who came to check the hot tub was ok . Plenty of logs for the wood burner too . We had a pair of visiting ducks and saw pheasant, deer, and birds of prey during our stay . Easy access to Bowness and Windermere . A great place to unwind and explore the surrounding countryside. Highly recommended.

  • "Fabulous hideaway."

Just had a weeks stay at tarn lodge and would recommend to anyone. Beautiful surroundings, peaceful and relaxing. The lodge itself is spotlessly clean, modern and extremely well equipped. The jacuzzi is an absolute bonus especially after a days walking , hidden away at the side of the lodge, giving total privacy. My only criticism would be the bed in the double room which can be made into 2 singles is quite uncomfortable. We look forward to staying again and would not hesitate to recommend. Thank you

A little hidden gem. The property is comfortable, clean, well equipped and in a beautiful setting just a few minutes drive away from Bowness. Gorgeous views over the Tarn, and daily visits from the ducks! Sarah is very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Would recommend 100%.

  • "The advert is misleading."

This isn't a private, quiet, holiday location. It's overlooked by four other properties. We had to listen to drunken idiots most evenings (it felt like a budget holiday park). The people who carry out the daily checks on the hot tub don't access it from the rear of the property (??!!), they bimble directly across the front, looking straight into the living room. A guy on a tractor turned up to mow our lawn, whilst we were trying to grab some sun and get a baby to sleep at lunchtime on our last day. The rear of the property is an absolute mess of metal fencing, as they're clearly building something. The garden furniture on the decking is very old/shoddy. One of the chairs stained my wife's t-shirt with rust. Despite the fact they have Sky at the property, they don't subscribe to any channels. As a result, on the days we were housebound, due to the weather, we couldn't even watch TV. The single beds are absolutely TINY. They're meant for children, so don't make the same mistake as us and assume that adults could sleep in them. I was insulted that after the week we had, and amount it cost, they had the audacity to leave a note instructing us to strip all the beds on the way out. I could go on, but I've made my point. I was not at all impressed considering I paid £2500 to stay at the property. It wasn't private, it wasn't relaxing, it wasn't worth the money. The owners need to be HONEST in their advertising and charge a lot less for what felt like a Butlins at times. We wouldn't stay there again if it was free.

Thanks for taking the time to leave your feedback. We take real pride in offering our guests a great service and we are always here to assist with any concerns. Had you notified us of these points during your stay, one of our team would have been very happy to address them for you. Sadly, we weren’t given the opportunity to assist on this occasion. Tarn Lodge is set back on a hill, with trees and shrubs providing privacy from neighbouring properties, which are 20m away. Our Site Manager checks all the hot tubs daily for health and safety purposes, including the surrounding areas, which includes decking on some properties, and staff are always mindful of guest’s privacy. Our lovely grounds are well maintained, and we always try to complete any tasks with minimal disruption to our guests. Garden furniture and decking is open to the elements, but we do check them regularly and re-treat where needed. No building work has taken place and we have nothing planned. The lodge isn’t advertised as having Sky, but we do have a smart TV with access to regular TV channels plus Netflix, Amazon Prime etc, if you have subscribed to these, which is usual practice for self-catering accommodation. The bed mentioned has a zip and link mattress which splits to 2 singles from a king size; this is a standard adult size. The removal of the bed linen on departure is a request to enable the housekeeping team to focus on keeping the properties spotlessly clean, but it is just a polite request and not at all compulsory. We’re delighted that previous guests at Tarn Lodge have awarded us a score of 4.8 and rated us as ‘Outstanding’. We take great pride in our customer care and service to our guests and would have been more than happy to have discussed any concerns that you had during your stay. We do hope these points didn’t impact your stay and that you had a great holiday. Property Owner

However, we were concerned that the Plug in Air Freshener in the hall had been left switched on, it was completely empty and on removal very hot. As reported in the press these air fresheners are fire hazards when left switched on when empty !!!!! After unplugging it we removed the refills so hopefully it will not get used until new refills have been added.

Thank you so much for taking the time to send this. The Oaks Team really appreciates hearing that our guests have had such a great stay and thank you for mentioning the plug in and switching it off. We usually do check these and we have replaced this refill. Property Owner

As the weather was cold the log fire was an absolute bonus. We saw plenty of wild life including deer in front of the lodge, rabbits, bird of prey and numerous pheasants. Whilst it is not completely isolated we were not disturbed by neighbouring properties at all. Whilst the walk into Bowness was doable, not all our party could manage the uphill walk back. That might be worth a mention ( or I could have just missed it !). We would love to go back.

It had everything you would need for a comfortable stay. Great to listen to the birds in the morning. The only thing I can mention as a negative is we were there for a week and on the Friday to Monday there were groups in the cottages at the side. On two of the nights it sounded like they were having a rave. This is more inconsiderate people than the owners fault.

Only minor moans really , couldn’t get Netflix etc to work , kept telling us no internet connection . Pictures don’t show the row of cottages and view of their hot tubs to the left of the property , should imagine quite noisy when fully booked as we could clearly hear people when sat on our terrace. The final thing which prevented us booking again for next year is what looks like future building above and behind the lodge , such a shame .

The main kitchen/diner/sitting area is comfortable and well laid out, which makes catering easy. The bedrooms were spacious with plenty of storage. The bath and shower rooms were modern and clean. Plenty of birdlife around for those interested in nature and we were able to watch the tribulations of the mother ducks trying to raise their families of very cute ducklings, despite the depredations of the local buzzards. Overall, one of the nicest lodges we have ever rented.

Martin was brilliant and couldn't do enough for us - and always with a smile and a nod. This lodge was honestly amazing and everything within it was done to such a high standard - no skimping took place with this property! Due to the hot weather, two small things did occur to us as possible additions for next summer. One would be an overhead light above the dining table and the other would be to add an awning across some of the decking area to allow some shade on the hot days. Many many thanks for this lodge. Not acceptable. Our original holiday date was in June but we had to move to September which we weren't very pleased about. After first use of hot tub my adult daughter developed a severe rash. This concerned us very much. Disappointingly we did not use the hot tub again ? because of the use of certain chemicals. This had never happened before to her having used one many many times. The rash has still not disappeared completely a week later. However, lodge (except hot tub) was lovely and very comfortable. All very modern and exceptionally clean with Covid instructions etc. It was in a very nice position near a pond but you do need a car to get around.

  • "Lovely lodge."

Really nicely designed and built lodge with tasteful decor throughout. Pleasing view of pond, but watch out for the hotel guests (next door) who row boats on the pond - they can see directly into your property. Ducks come and visit, but don't stay to annoy. Quality hot-tub, neatly hidden out of view of other guests; watch shooting stars and milk way on a clear night. Great appliances; of special note is the oven - it's big and fast and accurate cooking; kettle also very fast. Some utensils that the lodge could have benefited from include, Pizza slicer, Ice cream scoop, sieve; but otherwise well equipped. Comfortable beds, but if you / your kids wake with daylight, be ware that the daylight gets in due to the curtains position - bring your own black-out blinds or use a towel to cover the window(s). Also be aware that the other guest lodges (which are perpendicular to this lodge) look directly on to your decking and outdoor table & chairs - and as a consequence of their position relative to yours, the sound from them carries straight to your lodge; we found this a little more intrusive than it should be, which might be mitigated by putting up trees to break the sound carrying. Other things to note is that there is no outdoor storage attached to your lodge for things like bikes - it would have benefited from secure bike storage. Finally note that there is building (construction) taking place of an additional four lodges immediately above this one - the construction was dormant whilst we were there, but presumably the owners will construct the addition lodges, and that will generate significant noise and disruption. Other than these things, we had a great stay - it is a genuinely lovely place.
