  • "Cartref is one of the best holiday let’s I have stayed in."

The cottage is clean and comfortable , the views are spectacular . The owners Mari and Rhys really care if you enjoy your stay and go the extra mile to make your holiday memorable. Would recommend to others and definitely book again. Special thanks to Gwion for his time he gave us and Mari for the extra work load we gave her.

  • "A wonderful stay at the Cartref."

The host was more than accommodating and very responsive to any queries. Situated in a perfect location for long walks from the door-step, excellent access to a wide range of activities and attractions all within a one hour drive made this house a great base from which to explore all of North Wales! A generous welcome gift and a Christmas tree for the festive period made it all the more special. The beds and lounging furniture were very comfortable, allowing for a relaxing break that was much needed. Beautiful decor with attention to detail. Our hosts went above and beyond in every aspect and I would highly recommend to others. Thank you ❤️

  • "We all can’t thank Mari and Rhys enough for everything to make our stay and Christmas so special."

It was lovely for Mari to phone a few days before we arrived to introduce themselves. An amazing surprise with the welcome pack on arrival. So wonderful and kind for the goodies for my daughters Guide Dog as well. It was lovely to meet Mari and Rhys and to know if we needed anything, they were just a message/phone call away. We all can’t wait to return to Cartref for another relaxing and amazing time away. The time away in beautiful Cartref was amazing and the views were stunning.

  • "What an absolutely fantastic property."

Cartref provided everything we were looking for, and more! It's beautifully designed & built, tastefully decorated, VERY well equipped (including kitchen utensils, games, books, local information leaflets, etc.) and extremely comfortable, with stunning views of the countryside from every window! You could simply sit there for hours and never get bored watching the changing weather coming in over the mountains. Also, the two calves resident in the field outside were an absolute delight to see each day. The owners couldn't have been more considerate, and were keen to ensure that we had everything we needed (having already provided us with a gorgeous welcome pack of biscuits, crisps, sweets, cookies, beer, G&T, and a range of tea bags!) On holiday with my partner's 93-year-old mother, it was reassuring to know that there weren't any stairs for her to climb, and the rooms are very spacious so no worries about bumping into furniture either. I needed to work during the day, so was very pleased with the wifi connection, particularly in such a remote area. I enjoyed the pool table in an evening too! The location is great for going out of the door to explore the local area, or for taking a short drive to local towns or even to the coast. I honestly think that this place would look spectacular in any/every season and hope to return to find out for myself!

I don't think I've ever stayed in a cleaner cottage. The owners have clearly spent a lot of time and love making it completely perfect. It's definitely been done up with families in mind and has everything you could need to create a great holiday. The views from all sides are incredible as well. I would not hesitate to recommend this property to others. If i could give it 6 stars I would.

  • "The cottage was spotlessly clean, spacious and well-equipped; the views from the property were absolutely fabulous, and the location was ideal - isolated but close to plenty of activities."

Mountain biking a couple of miles down the road (brilliant, and for all levels - bring your own helmet!), Barmouth beach relatively close, and Harlech Castle and beach not far. And if you want walks, we did some easy walking from the cottage towards the Rhinogs, drove a couple of miles then walked up Rhinog Fawr (an effort, the top being visible from the cottage) and went towards Barmouth to walk the New Precipice Walk (amazing views). Local owner's, Mari and Rhys, came to say hello and were contactable during the stay with any questions, although the cottage contained all the practical information and things to do that you could possibly want. Such friendly and lovely hosts who made us feel really welcome...thank you! Nice welcome basket of treats too!! :) We had a wonderful holiday. Little surprise this cottage has such great reviews!

We stayed as a family of 4 (plus baby) and the property is simply exceptional. The owners haven't spared any cost throughout and have put real emotional effort into the property and it shows. Mari and Rhys (along with the boys and sheep outside!) are wonderful hosts. They were so welcoming and on hand throughout our stay - really friendly without being imposing like some hosts can be. - a big wow moment for us was sliding open the large french patio doors in the living room and bringing North Wales into it (yes the blue sky and mountains you see in the main living room picture). It was so pleasant to have the doors open whilst we lounged or had our dinner. - the games room adds another dimension to the property, and gave us another relaxing space to unwind. - the entire house is finished to a very high standard, is clean and spacious and tastefully decorated. The location is brilliant - it's quiet and away from immediate neighbours, lots of parking, and the main road leads to various attractions. Coed y brenin forest park which is 3 minutes drive is a great family spot. The experience Mari and Rhys have created here is simply one of the best in North Wales.
