  • "Tan Y Garth."

Is an old Quarry Worker Cottage and has plenty of charm and has been renovated to a fantastic degree of comfort and quality. The kitchen is a wonderful use of space. The Bathroom has also been finished to a high standard. The location is amazing. With a short walk up the hill you experience splendid view of Fairbourne. Barmouth and behind. The night sky quality is amazing and we were fortunate to capture the Milky Way and a number of Shutting Stars. For those who are looking for a peaceful quite spot it is ideal. For those who want to enjoy a walking holiday with a level of easy challenge but rewarded with some spectacular view of both the coast and the mountains you will not be disappointed. I would recommend if you are into exploring or dog walking you give this property every consideration. For those who enjoy bird watching again it is ideal with Red Kits Buzzards and plenty of smaller birds in the local area.

  • "We had a brilliant stay at 2 Tan Y Garth with our 6 and 9 year olds."

The cottage is cosy and in a beautiful and peaceful setting with lovely walks from the door. It's worth noting that there weren't books and games suitable for the children in the cottage, as we've found elsewhere but we had brought our own. We walked down to the wonderful beach every day - great for sandcastles, body boarding, shell hunting and running around at low tide! We found everything we needed in the shops in Fairbourne and enjoyed days out at the Centre for Alternative Technology and Dolgoch Falls, plus a wander around Dolgellau and a walk to Barmouth, catching the train back. We hadn't been to this part of Wales before and feel sure we'll be booking another stay. Thank you!

Hi Kate thanks for the lovely review. Great feedback re: kids entretainment and we will get onto this. Great tips in the local area, particularly Dolgoch falls which is on the Talylyn railway. We'd love to have you back thanks Andy & Sarah Property Owner

  • "This is the best holiday let we’ve had in Wales!"

The photos do not do the property justice. The location is just stunning, the property a great mixture of old charm and modern convenience. Comfortable beds and furnishings, delightful level of equipment and soft furnishings, and little extras like CDs, books and board games - we could easily have stayed a month! Thank you, Tan Y Garth, we hope to see you next year! Michelle and family x

Hi MIchelle, thanks so much for such a glowing review. We are delighted that you had such a great time and foudn the cottage so comfortable. • "A beautiful cottage in a great location."

Comfortable and well stocked kitchen. Could use a baking tray as was unable to locate one. Also if you could provide a few bin liners that would be very helpful. Spacious rooms and the garden and outlook are fabulous. Not much clothes storage in second double room but appreciate not much space for any. Very peaceful and quiet but able to get to places easily from the cottage which was great. We enjoyed our meal at the ship and the beach at Aberdovey is fabulous! Barmouth over the bridge is just spectacular. Overall a wonderful stay in a lovely cottage. One last thing. A welcome pack of some sort would be an added bonus and appreciated by guests. A bottle of fizz or a few biscuits or small hamper would be amazing. Just a thought as an added touch. Thank you . Dawn

Hi Dawn, thanks for the review. We try to fit in quality comfortable furniture and as much storage as possible with the rooms. Baking trays we will check as there should be several but there are also lots of hidey holes for them to be placed Great tips for places in the local area and sounds like you had a fab time. thanks Andy & Sarah Property Owner

The property feels homely and is well equipped and after long walks is a joy to return to. From the house there are walks in easy access either up and over to the foothills of Cadair Idris, the lovely Mawddach estuary or over the iconic bridge to Barmouth you won’t be disappointed. It also has easy access to visit historical castles by car if you wish to go further afield all in all a great place to stay.

One of the best equipped kitchens we have used, with more than enough crockery, even after the dishwasher was full. From the cottage we walked, cycled, used a ferry and a train. It is well sited for a myriad of Outdoor activities.

  • "This property is desperate for a deep clean and the shower perhaps is past it’s sell by date."

The unusable and unsightly rear of the premises detracts from the property. Although no fault of the owner the doomed status of Fairbourne was plain to see.

Hi Dennis, thanks for your review. We visited the property this weekend and found it to be extremely clean and tidy as did the guests following you and the 50 + previous. The rear of the property is unavailable to guests for health and safety reasons – very steep slippery steps and a defunct outside loo. Hence no reference nor photos in the guide. However the front garden with lawn, swing seat and picnic table is always well maintained and available for guests as is the garage for bike storage etc. The shower can be a bit fiddly but was fine when we tested and we will be renewing the mixer imminently. We are always contactable during guests stay and eager to deal with any issues immediately they arise. thanks Andy & Sarah Property Owner

Without a doubt it was the most comfortable cottage we have ever stayed in and we always self cater. Most impressed with how well the kitchen is kitted out and the lovely warm colours of your furnishings added to the ambiance of our stay. It was a relief not to be surrounded by grey.

  • "The house was well equipped and was very cool whilst we were there, which was fab during the heatwave."

The location was good for exploring the area. It was a five minute drive to the beach or 15 minutes walk. Fairbourne beach was great really shallow and sandy and the sea was surprisingly warm. Only one bathroom which was tricky when we all wanted showers after a swim but other than that a great place to stay.

Hi Hil, thanks for your feedback , great to hear that you enjoyed the location so much. The beach at Fairbourne is great for kids being so shallow and there is lots to do in the surrounding area. Andy & Sarah Property Owner

  • "We have just returned from a wonderful week at Tan Y Garth."

The property is fully equipped with everything that you could ask for, it was clean and tidy and the bedrooms were all very comfortable. It was only a 15 minute easy walk to the beach which was lovely. Fairbourne itself is very quiet and not full of tourist shops (which for us was great) but they had a general store which supplied most things you could need and a nice pub too. We used both the miniature railway and the mainline station both of which are in Fairbourne and were so convenient to access. An extremely enjoyable week and we would not hesitate to return.
