  • "This cottage is so comfortable, and in a beautiful location, with views of the golf course in front and the mointains."

This is the second time we have stayed at this cottage in 6 weeks, its like home from home. After a hard days walking returning to a cosy log fire is great. the heating system is very good plenty of radiators, essensial after coming home with wet gear. When going away with a friend that is a good cheff, the kitchen is important. this was very well equiped. We will be going back.

  • "We found the cottage very welcoming, warm and cosy."

Well equipped kitchen- though there was only a couple of sharp knives to use. Having the heating on all day, and plenty of wood to burn - it was a real treat to come back to at the end of a days walk. Would come again.

  • "As described."

Great base for walking as you can get on the Eskdale trial - straight from the front door- left or right (up the road then watch out for the metal finger posts). The nearest pub was the King George IV. Beautifully quiet, you can hear &/or see so much wildlife; owls, bats, deer, toads, newt, we even saw a badger!

  • "A lovely cottage in a magnificent setting."

The views from all forward facing windows of the mountain ranges were simply breathtaking. Parking was excellent for two cars and in a great location to visit this side of the Lake District. The kitchen was fairly well equipped, the beds were comfortable and the cottage was always lovely and warm. We all had a fantastic holiday in a very unique, quirky cottage. The cottage is in need of some general maintenance, and whilst is clean, it does require some attention to remove all dust, cobwebs and dirt from the windows. A welcome pack would be nice if you've travelled a long distance as shops are sparce and perhaps a folder to advise on local amenities, operation of equipment and local walks. On advert, this is a 6 bed cottage and describes a single room with a sofa bed, however, this is a childs cushion that folds out, which is only suitable for anyone under the age of 5, staying overnight at their friends. However, there is a full size bed in a small nook on the ground floor, situated between the kitchen and dining room which does require a carpet and not rugs and really is only suitable for an adult. Despite the above details, this was a great cottage and we had a great holiday!

  • "Wonderful place to stay – handy for the really spectacular bits of Cumbria and on the edge of what must be England's most spectacular golf course."

Some great walks and bike rides in the area. The cottage itself is lovely – warm and comfy, with a fantastic new kitchen. Owner is super-helpful. Make sure you stock up at a supermarket on the way in as shops are few and far between in this area.

Peaceful environment. The only one thing we would concern is the person who should be available if we need any assistance we tried to contact them but they didn’t answer our phone calls. Thanks

  • "Great cottage located on a very quiet golfing estate."

Plenty of wildlife on your doorstep - Red Squirrels, Deer & Birds of Prey seen from your window! Great space within the cottage and the large modern kitchen with plenty of utensils is fantastic! Scarfell Pike and Wasdale 30 minutes away and other great locations not too far! Dark skies at night for the stars too! Would stay here again!!

  • "A spacious and relatively well-equipped property."

The decor is looking a little tired now, as is some of the equipment. Instructions on the various services within the property were somewhat lacking - guidance on use of the TV would have been helpful, as would the handling of trash/recycling. A welcome pack would have been nice.

  • "We loved our stay at Yew Cottage."

Perfect location for hiking and visiting the local area. My hubby even found time to squeeze in a cheeky game of golf at the amazing course which was a very pleasant surprise for him as we weren’t aware it was there until we arrived. People so friendly. Views amazing too. So wonderfully quiet and peaceful.

  • "This our 3rd stay in this beautiful cottage, we feel so at home , especially my husband who lived here for 6 years in the 70’s with his family."

The facilities are just right. Perhaps a we’ll behaved dog would be nice but not necessary. Looking forward to our next visit.

  • "We arrived late at night on friday night tired from a lovely 4 hour journey and was welcomed by an extremely well kept cottage which was so nice to see when youve just driven the length of the country!"

the Kitchen is amazing and definitely a key point of the property, the rooms were all super clean and well kept and the facilities were spot on, couldnt fault the place at all, although it rained all the way through our stay it was such a lovely place to come back to and sit and warm up by the fire! (the snug chair is also a good bonus) lots of space for plenty of people and will definitely come back again!

The property

Eskadale Green 5.3 miles.

Yew Tree Cottage, set amongst beautiful countryside with views from most of the property windows looking out to the peaks in the distance.

Thanks to its three bedrooms sleeping five, this house would be ideal for a medium-sized family, or a group of avid walking friends ready for their next outing.

Admire the bright white property from the outside and take in your peaceful surroundings before stepping in, kick off your boots and find the first room to your left, the sitting room.

Keeping its authentic character with the open fire set below the wooden mantelpiece, it contains a TV and sofas for your comfort on a quiet evening.

Across the hall is the snug, this one featuring a woodburning stove, and leading into the stylish kitchen/diner.

Continuing with its flagstone floor, this space is great for coming together, and if it's a lovely day then take the conversation outside into the courtyard.

Pass back through the property admiring the stunning views out of the windows of the nearby woodland and rolling hill, and head upstairs to discover the bedrooms.

The master bedroom grants you a double bed, ample storage in the wardrobe and drawers and even your very own en-suite shower room.

Carry on exploring and find the other two rooms; a single sofa bed and a twin, all completed to an excellent degree with light and airy decor.

Serving these rooms is the sparkling family bathroom which consists of a bath with hand-held shower attachment, basin and WC, so you can make sure the little ones get a bath before bedtime.

With pretty gardens on either side of the property - a patio and lawns - you can take a trip to the closest shop in Eskdale Green for supplies and then spend a sunny day cooking summer food and enjoying refreshing cold drinks.

The Lake District can provide you with endless activities to keep you busy and entertained, most commonly being thousands of walking routes and paths.

Fairly nearby to Yew Tree Cottage is the highest mountain in England, Scafell Pike, so take a rare opportunity and challenge yourself by following one of the walking routes up this magnificent peak, with path ranging from easier to higher difficulty depending on experience.

About the location

ESKDALE GREEN

Coniston 10 miles.

The small village of Eskdale Green sits amongst beautiful Lakeland countryside and consists of a scattering of cottages, some farm dwellings and a number of outstanding traditional English pubs serving good food. An area relatively unknown to many Lakeland visitors, this great location boasts a skyline dominated by the towering peaks of Scafell - England's highest peak, as well as Great Gable, Hard Knott, Harter Fell and Muncaster Fell, whilst the nearby stunning valleys of Eskdale, Wasdale, Ennerdale and Dunnerdale provide breathtaking and ever-changing scenery to be enjoyed throughout the year. The valley is notable as being one of few major valleys in the Lake District not to have its own lake, although several tarns are perched above the valley sides. Local attractions include Muncaster Castle, the World Owl Centre and the Ravenglass to Eskdale miniature railway, one of the most beautiful train journeys imaginable. With both beautiful Wastwater - the deepest lake in the country and St Olaf's - the smallest church, amongst the many well known landmarks in this awe inspiring and beautiful area also within easy reach, this stunning location will have visitors returning time and time again.
