Access is quite tricky as the road is very steep and although it is a short walk into the village, it would be very difficult for anyone with mobility problems. We had a lovely holiday with only 2 days of bad weather - not bad for November!

Thank you for the great feedback...and yes the view is amazing! Pleased that you had such a great holiday. Property Owner

Beautiful views, very pretty cottage, loved the fire, beds very comfy.

Thank you for the great feedback about our cottage. I'm sorry that you found arrival difficult. We always suggest following our written instructions rather than follow sat nav. Ill look again at what we say to make sure that they are as clear as possible.Im pleased that you enjoyed staying in Dormouse with its amazing view! Property Owner

The parking is non existent, so left the car in the car park for the week and did all our traveling about by local bus and first class it was too.

Thank you for such great feedback. We are clear in the joining instructions that one of the entry roads is awkward so please do follow our suggestions on the best road and where to park...taking the bus is a great alternative to driving for getting round the Lakes. Property Owner

There was plenty of space for 2 adults and a 16 year old! The cottage was well equipped and well maintained and provided us with the most amazing family holiday! The owners also kindly let us know before travelling about a closed road, to avoid delays. Thank you for a great stay and and looking forward to returning another time!

  • "A lovely cottage, nestled in the hills above Coniston lake yet a short walk to the shops and pubs."

The views from the front garden were breathtaking. Very well stocked with all needs catered for. We especially liked the secure lock up for bikes and the bed linen which was crisp white cotton of hotel quality. We struggled with the TV and could have used some instructions. Also parking would have been an issue if we hadn't had help from a lovely couple staying next door who let us share their allocated space. But all in all a fabulous base for a Lakes holiday, can highly recommend.

Thank you for the 100% feedback...really pleased that you liked the bedding...we do use hotel quality, professionally laundered cotton bedding. There should have been TV instructions...sorry I'll look for them. It's lovely that a neighbour helped you park...on the odd occasion that there isn't parking on the wall there is additional parking close by...and we explain that in the cottage. Thank you for recommending our cottage! Property Owner

  • "This is a great cottage in a fab setting and really friendly nearby neighbours."

It was clean, well equipped and while quaintly reminiscent of times past it also had all you needed with WiFi etc and maintained to a superb standard . The garden is delightful. The parking situation is clearly mentioned...and was easily managed by us...but was more of a challenge than expected given the narrow and very steep local vehicle and pedestrian access..would definitely stay there again.

Thank you for the great feedback and so pleased that you would like to return. Whilst the roads are typical lakeland lanes its important to access the cottage as described in the instructions rather than be tempted to follow your sat nav....Look froward to seeing you again Property Owner

Would like option to use blind on front window due to people tending to stare in . Also we didn’t know how to dispose of ashes safely on our last day , no safe metal bucket . Would highly recommend this cottage

Thank you for the fabulous feedback, and recommending us to other guests. We used to have a venetian blind at the window but it partially blocked the stunning view. As there are so few people walking down the lane I decided that the uninterrupted view won versus the odd person looking in...and took it down! We do have a steel dustbin bin outside where you can put ashes..but I'll look into putting a metal bucket outside...thanks for the suggestion. Maybe we will see you again! • "Dormouse Cottage was in a great location."

We did not travel by car, so proximity to shops and Coniston village was perfect. There were plenty of options for walking from the doorstep, and the local fells were terrific. We were lucky with the weather! We enjoyed the local history of copper mining and the Ruskin Museum and Brantwood. We found the stone floor a bit cold, but other than that it was a comfortable cottage, very well equipped, and we enjoyed the open fire as well. We would definitely consider staying again!

Thank you for this great feedback. As you say the cottage is ideally placed for both fabulous views and close proximity to shops, pubs great walks and the lake. Being a traditional lakeland cottage it does have original flag floors which are lovely but can be a bit cold in the winter...it would be a real shame to lose them, but with double glazed windows and the central heating on the cottage is usually a very comfortable temperature. I hope that you, like many other guests, do decide to return... Property Owner

Well equipped, my only feedback would be all the kitchen cupboards are taken up with pots, pans etc, we found it hard to put our food anywhere, with it being a self catering holiday it would have been good to have somewhere free to store our food items.

Thank you for the great feedback. It’s always a challenge between giving enough space for food v being a well equipped cottage. The usual comment is how well the kitchen is equipped, but I will check that pots haven’t moved from their correct cupboard. Property Owner

  • "A lovely cottage in a beautiful setting."

At a personal level I found the stone flooring throughout the ground floor cold & uninviting for the time of year. For me a relatively small rug in the sitting room was insufficient to provide warmth despite central heating (which for me was a bit haphazard.) I smelt sewage in the kitchen area at times of which I informed the owner in a note I left. This did not affect the overall pleasure of staying in the property however. The welcome gift was much appreciated & the property was well equipped

Thank you very much for your feedback, and I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay. I'm sorry that you experienced a smell in the kitchen. Whilst stating that it did not not affect your stay if you had let Lakelovers know whilst you were in the cottage, I would have come and checked immediately. We have never experienced this before. I have inspected today, having seen the note that you left on departure, and can find no reason for a smell, but I have bleached the drains. Also the cottage is usually lovely and warm, and the central heating is on from 7am - 11pm. It is controlled via both the central thermostat and radiator valves. On the rare occasions that that isn't sufficient there are instructions in the cottage for guests on how to put the heating on continuously. Again if you had let us know that you had a problem during your stay I would have attended to help. I'm pleased that you like the welcome gift and found the property well equipped. Thanks Rob Property Owner

  • "Lovely property and the garden was a treat - lovely view and bird life a -plenty."

The facilities were very good and the cooker was wonderfully straight forward to use. Issues: Please replace the kettle. The lid flies up randomly when in use. Instructions for the TV would be good for those of us used to a more basic model at home. Not sure if the problem was with the remote - not always responsive which made it harder to work out what we were doing wrong! The parking was stressful. There wasn't always a space available so we parked on Furness Road. This worked for us, but meant if you went out for the day you had to stay out until after 5pm otherwise the spaces would be filled.

Thank you for your 100% feedback - so pleased that you loved the cottage and garden. I've replaced the kettle, and checked the TV remote on the smart TV. Sorry that you had an issue parking. On some days in weeks where every cottage is occupied there isn't always a space on the wall when you want one, but as you say there is plenty of parking in Old Furness Road. Generally there isn't a problem. Hope that having enjoyed it you, like many other guests, will return. Property Owner
