  • "Very nice cottage right in the centre of Grasmere, clean and comfortable, found the drying room at the bottom of the stairs extremely useful, and having a private parking space a few yards from the door was perfect."

    Hope to return.

Thank you Ian for your favourable comments. I am pleased you enjoyed your week at Low Croft and look forward to having you to stay with us again. The storage and drying room with washer/dryer is very useful especially if the weather is inclement. Low Croft with a private parking space is in a quiet courtyard overlooking the village green. All walks begin form the doorstep. The bus stop to Ambleside and Keswick is by the green. Very useful especially with the £2 fare. You can park at the beginning of your stay and not use you car again. Property Owner

  • "Very enjoyable stay."

The only downside was the car parking space being quite small and I can imagine the stairs being a frustration for elderly people (or knackered walkers!). Other than that, it was great,

  • "Cosy, warm, well equipped, peaceful even though it’s in the middle of Grasmere."

. Couldn’t find it straight away as it’s tucked away.. maybe advise customers that the entrance is by the postbox..?? The bus service is brilliant.. every 20 mins..

Dear Christine Thank you for your feedback. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay at Low Croft. It is very conveniently situated for the many amenities including the buses to Ambleside and Keswick. You can park you car at the beginning of your stay and not use it again until you leave. I will advise guests that the entrance is by the postbox. Many thanks, Ann Property Owner

  • "Very comfortable and convenient for Grasmere."

2 minutes to bus stops. Many easy access routes to fells. Sleeps 4 comfortably although we were only 2. Parking available but a tad tricky. Highly recommended.

Thank you for your feedback. I am pleased you enjoyed your stay at Low Croft. All you need is on the doorstep - a frequent bus to Ambleside or Keswick, a variety of shops, many walks to suit any ability and as you found the weather was perfect every day except Thursday. ..absolutely loved low croft as great location in grasmere...just perfect for what we needed...out all day and back by 5pm...Everything we needed was there .. we cooked most evenings ...and chilled in a really comfortable lounge..upstairs bedrooms were warm and comfortable.. slept really well...bathroom was also ok...Down stairs where you find keys there are two doors...one is a quirky room with washer/dryer if you need it but we used to leave our coats and boots in there..Other door is where you go up the stairs to first floor with kitchen/lounge then second lot of stairs you go up to bedrooms and bathroom...loved this property and most certainly will be booking again...

Thank you Caroline for your very positive feedback. I am pleased you and your friends enjoyed your stay at Low Croft and found everything to you satisfaction. The weather was reasonable and didn't stop you from spending your days around the Lakes. We look forward to having you to stay with us again Property Owner

  • "This is the worst apartment I've ever stayed in."

Lakelovers have been utterly rubbish in their customer service and were not interested in rectifying any of the issues: Mattresses are extremely old and we couldn't sleep as a result of their poor quality. I asked for an extra duvet to put on top of the mattress but this was deemed not possible. The bathroom is freezing cold and shower is but a mere trickle. The sofa where we tried to sleep is like something you pick up for £10 from the charity shop. Having paid 800 pounds for 4 nights I really was expecting to enter into qj apartment of comfort. I also contacted the owner directly to complain and despite having read the message I got no reply. Really very disappointed

Thank you for taking the time to feedback after your recent stay at Low Croft Cottage. We are sorry you found the property unsatisfactory. The property is advertised as 3* self catering accommodation and recently gained its award by Visit England which was carried out at the end of November. The property is not listed as luxury and the grading, description and photo's show the standard well. Pricing is generally high during the Christmas/ New Year period as it is one of the busiest times of the year. Lakelovers manage the property on behalf of the owner the cleaner strives high in standards of cleanliness, they were recently awarded 100% by Visit England so we apologise that you found these standards were not met. Regarding the mattresses these have since been replaced to prevent any future guest upset. The owner has advised that you have been in contact with her directly. We also had our quality and compliance team recently attend and they advised that the sofa is of comfort. Property Owner

  • "Nice cottage, as described."

Quiet but smack in centre. Additional storage was great for storing all our clobber and keeping boots out the house too. Washer/Drier came in handy too. Grasmere a good base and lots of fells to do without needed the car all week + other activities like hiring row boats and lake walks etc. We were a family with a 5 year old so did Loughrigg fell, Silver How, Arthurs Seat, Easedale tarn. Also did a trip to Brockhole to use the treetop nets.

The property

Situated in a quiet courtyard, Low Croft Cottage is an excellent choice for visitors with a love of history and the arts.

Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage is close by, as are Grasmere’s famous galleries, tearooms and churchyard.

The area is well known for its wonderful walks, both leisurely and challenging, the welcoming local pubs and outstanding views over Rydall Water and Loughrigg. The cottage itself is charming.

Through sensitive renovation it has retained its original character with exposed beams and intriguing angled ceilings.

On the ground floor is a spacious utility area with plenty of room for bikes, boots and other equipment.

The first floor is home to a very pretty sitting room with large television and storage heaters, while the kitchen is a real wow.

Its wooden floor, modern units and comprehensive range of equipment make food preparation a joy.

A farmhouse table is close by, perfectly lending itself to the enjoyment of a hearty cooked breakfast or long lazy brunch.

The two charming bedrooms are on the second floor of the property, one a double room and one a generous twin.

Both are attractively presented and share the modern, bright bathroom with shower over the bath.

This superbly located holiday home-from-home is ideal for two couples or family.

Walks galore, cultural Grasmere on the doorstep and the lively village of Ambleside just a short drive away.

About the location

GRASMERE

Ambleside 5 miles; Windermere 9 miles; Keswick 13 miles.

Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park is the lovely village of Grasmere, probably best known as the home of William Wordsworth, a place he once described as "The most loveliest spot that man hath found". Any visit to Grasmere needs to include The Grasmere Gingerbread shop, where the Wilson family has been making gingerbread for over 60 years. Also in the village are a number of shops, pubs, a church which dates back to the 13th century, and Grasmere Lake. Grasmere Sports takes place every August, where you can watch participants compete in a variety of sports, including Cumberland wrestling. Just five miles away is the town of Ambleside and Lake Winderemere where you will find shops, pubs, restaurants and the 17th century Bridge House, which is one of the most photographed buildings in the Lake District. Cruises, boat trips and watersports can all be enjoyed on Lake Windermere, and the towns of Windermere and Keswick are also within driving distance. Grasmere is a wonderful base for your Lake District retreat.
