  • "This is a lovely little cottage in the quiet village of caldbeck."

The cottage was clean, comfortable and very well equipped. The owners Stephen and heather were lovely and called in personally to ensure we were happy and all was okay. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The linen on the beds was spotlessly white and pristine and a delight to sleep in. We loved it there and will hopefully return soon. It's a quaint village and the most traffic on the road was a local flock of sheep who have the run of the village. There is a shop, a pub that serves good food, two tearooms and a farm that sells fresh milk. Would recommend this cottage to anyone. Lovely home from home.

  • "We loved this superbly equipped cottage."

Heather and Stephen obviously take a lot of trouble to make sure guests feel welcome. We hope to return for a longer stay in the village. The only small thing we would suggest is that the hot water temperature is turned down. The shower is extremely hot and we couldn't get a cooler setting - that and a pair of rubber gloves for washing up would be great!

Thank you for your kind review. We are pleased you enjoyed your holiday in Beckside Cottage and would love to welcome you back. Thank you for bringing the shower to our attention. Best wishes Stephen and Heather Property Owner

  • "Beckside Cottage looked so pretty on arrival with window baskets full of yellow and blue flowers complementing the blue and white of the cottage."

The interior was full of character and was very well equipped, especially in the kitchen. The owners, Stephen and Heather, left a lovely welcome pack and came round to say "hello" and check we had everything we needed. The weather was better than forecast so we were able to take advantage of the outdoor seating area which was a real sun trap in the mornings. The cottage is well situated within Caldbeck which has lots of amenities for a small village. It is an excellent base for exploring this part of Cumbria.

Thank you for the great feedback and thank you for choosing Beckside Cottage for your holiday. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay in Caldbeck. Best wishes Stephen and Heather Property Owner

Comfortable beds, clean bathroom, excellent views. We had fresh milk and eggs and a basket filled with goodies. We had welcome wine and 4 delicious cupcakes waiting for us upon arrival. Loved the games cupboard with puzzles, playing cards and board games. I played scrabble with one child while the other did a puzzle with her dad! Superb location and excellent hosts. Would most definitely recommend!

  • "Small but comfortable and cosy, adequate for 2/3 adults."

The owners, Stephen and Heather, do literally put themselves out to welcome you and visit later to make sure all is ok. And yes, the welcome pack is the best we have ever had. The village has a lot going for it, with a good shop and milk you buy from a farm machine. The pub is good, but can get busy. Certainly sheep wander freely, and we saw the occasional cow holding up the traffic. If inclined, several Wainwrights can be climbed in the vicinity, in an area which is quieter, wilder and different to the rest of the Lakes. Parking can be awkward for a big car, but there is a free car park opposite which is very popular. Thank you for a good week.

Thank you for your your feedback it is much appreciated. Best wishes Stephen and Heather Property Owner

The village is a little gem with wonderful walks, fabulous streams for children to play in, a nice village pub and a lovely stream side cafe for waffles and milkshake. It’s such a relaxing place to stay and the owners Stephen and Heather have thought of everything! The little courtyard is a delight for alfresco breakfasts and taking in the surrounding countryside! Our 2 little boys adored it and we got to spend lots of lovely family time enjoying the simple things in life and getting back to nature. The boys loved the duck pond, streams, waffles and the rope swing on the walk to Hesket. There are such great days out too about 1/2 hour drive away the highlights for us were Mirehouse on Bassenthwaite and Dodd Wood, parking at Keswick Launch (nipping to see Castlerigg Stone circle on the way) and playing on the shores at Derwentwater and the waterfalls at Aira Force walking up Gowbarrow to see amazing views of Ullswater! Such an inspiring part of the country to visit. Thank you Stephen and Heather for your generosity and for helping us make amazing memories

About the location

CALDBECK

Wigton 7.5 miles; Carlisle 12 miles; Keswick 16 miles; Cockermouth 17 miles.

The charming Cumbrian village of Caldbeck is situated on the northern fringes of the Lake District National Park and is surrounded by beautiful moorland and fells. It’s a classic stone built village with a church, pub, village green and duck pond. The church dates back to the 12th century and is famous for being the resting place of the renowned huntsman John Peel. Although in every sense a ‘traditional working village’, the local craft centre at Priest Mill and the riverside walks to the Howk gorge, draw visitors to Caldbeck. The village is an ideal base for the northern Lakes, the market town of Keswick, as well as Lakes Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite. The natural beauty of the Solway coast, well-known for its golf courses and the town of Cockermouth, the birthplace of William Wordsworth are close by, whilst also within driving distance is the cathedral city of Carlisle, Hadrian’s Wall and the Scottish Borders.
