  • "We’ve had a lovely holiday here."

It was the perfect place for peace and quiet. The Bothy is just so cozy. We had everything we needed and Monica was so lovely and friendly to us. Just a perfect opportunity for us to relax and potter around locally into Brecon, where there is much to see and do and everything you need. Thank you again for sharing your lovely house with us.

  • "We had a wonderful stay at the Shepard's Bothy and Monica was the perfect host."

I don't think I have slept better away from home ever, the beds were so comfortable. It was such quiet and peaceful location with lovely views of the mountains. The weather was not perfect but the location of the cottage was very good for all that the Beacon Beacons have to offer. We enjoyed castle ruins, a Beacon canal cruise on a narrowboat, horse-riding, hiking, the waterfalls, Brecon Mountain Railway, Before seeing the kitchen, I had worried about how I would cope with basic kitchen facilities, but I need not have worried as I found it easy to plan meals that could be successfully cooked with the electric hob and microwave oven. We also took advantage of eating out at the wonderful local pubs and cafes that were a short drive away. Stand out meals were the coffee and cake we had at the International Welsh Rarebit Centre and a spectacular Sunday Roast at the Usk and Railway Inn in Sennybridge. Although the living spaces would a little bit crowded if wanted to spend days relaxing at the cottage, it was perfectly suited to our type of holiday, where we spend most days out and about. We would book another stay without hesitation.

  • "Booked in for a four night stay and only stayed one night."

There was a mix up regarding booking in my dog which i’m sure i had done with the site i booked through but did not show up on the Sykes booking . My daughter and her partner were going to stay two night's and had three dogs who were going to stay in their camper van and not in the house i very wrongly thought that would be ok . The Bothy is not suitable for any dogs especially if the weather is poor as there is no where for a dog to go unless you want it in your bedroom . The sitting room/ lounge is all hard single chairs and very small . Unfortunately the owner really made us feel so uncomfortable that we decided to leave after one night . Happy to recommend this property for two people with no animals and just hope the sunshine’s so you can sit outside but take your own comfy chairs

The location is ideal for those who want easy access to a wide variety of walks. The accommodation was very cosy with plenty of hot water and efficient heating. Although the kitchen is small it has everything you need. Loved the multi-use smart oven. We will be back.

  • "As a location, The Shepherd's Bothy couldn't be better!"

The Bothy is set in stunning scenery on a working farm and the start of the Beacons Horseshoe or the climb of Pen y Fan is just 5 miles away. Plenty of supermarkets 4 miles away in Sennybridge and 8 miles away in Brecon and lovely places to eat out in Sennybridge and surrounding areas (Usk & Railway Inn & The Shoe Makers Arms (Pentre-Bach) about 4 miles and 7 miles away respectively. The only downside for us was the lack of space to cook in the small kitchen which could quite easily be remedied by the addition of an all weather outdoor kitchen and picnic bench seating area above the car park. All in all though, we had a lovely stay. Please note that there are two slabs loose which need levelling outside (slabs 2 & 3) as you leave the front door. Thank you

  • "We'd like to say we enjoyed the holiday and the cottage was absolutely adequate and in a beautiful setting."

We are still shocked at the owners response to us when we asked if we could check out 2 hours later. We asked this as we were contacted and asked if we could check in 2 hours late due to cleaning problems. We agreed to this it wasn't a problem but felt that the owners attitude to our request was unfair and this slightly spoiled our experience. Whatever happened to give and take?

  • "Our only complaint concerns the gross inaccuracy of your directions to the cottage, which caused us much waste of time, fuel and frustration."

The directions should be amended to read: From the A470 about 5 miles south of Brecon, take the A4215 signed Defynnog (also signed Sennybridge & Heol Senni). After 2 miles take the road on the left signed Heol Senni & Ystradfellte. After about 1/3 mile the private road to Blaenbrynich is on the left.

  • "This is a delightful cottage in a beautiful location, with access to the Beacons from the front door."

It was such a pleasure to have the full-size tennis court for when we returned from our walks with a bit of energy to spare, and the bedrooms were very comfortable, with lots of hot water and showers that actually work. Having one each was a luxury we don't have at home! It is a bit of an exaggeration to describe the kitchen as a kitchen/diner, but there is a perfectly good table upstairs. Might be a struggle to get four people round it though. On the plus side, the stairs aren't steep at all and any reasonably abled person could manage them easily (we are in our seventies). The kitchen was certainly under-equipped - surely with a bit of re-arrangement there's room for a conventional cooker? But we were warned by previous reviews and we managed. The Visitor Centre (a couple of miles down the road) does good meals and excellent ice cream. The directions to the cottage are just plain wrong. Stupidly we had turned off our satnav and attempted to follow them. The turning off the 4215 is left, it isn't a private road, and it's signed Heol Senni. The turning to Blaenbrynnich is off this road, on the left. But all in all we were very happy at Blaenbrynnich and had a very enjoyable week. Thank you!

Kitchen facilities are limited but we managed with a few eat-outs as didn't want to cook the entire time while on holidays.

  • "The kitchen is definitely not suitable to cook a proper meal in."

You can either have the hob on or the main oven, not both, the “dining” bit is a very cramped metal breakfast bar and the kitchen utensils are extremely limited (no veg peeler, one small knife etc). It’s camping cooking, really. The bedrooms are very comfortable but the living areas are really not up to much. If you had bad weather and could not escape the house you’d struggle.

Thank you for your feedback its important. We have taken onboard your comments and will look to make improvements, kind regards Sykes cottages Property Owner

The hosts made us very welcome and shared some very useful local information. The views are absolutely stunning with fabulous walks on the doorstep. The beds were extremely comfortable after a days activity. Access to washing machine and dryer was really helpful. My only suggestion may be to have a little more in the kitchen.
