  • "Immaculate well equipped cottage."

Lovely stroll to the front with plenty of places to eat and pick up a few bits. The train made life easy and enjoyable getting along the coast in either direction. Parking was a bit of a faff to load and unload but used the nearby car park the rest of the time and the app made paying easy. Thank you.

Thanks for your wonderful feedback and so glad you enjoyed your stay. Hope you will return again soon. Property Owner

We used this property as the place for the meal. All the family loved the house and thought it was amazing. Thank you for letting out such a well appointed property. Small note (only because I see that you want everything perfect) 2 glasses and 1 bowl are chipped, and the rubber ring around the bath plug is missing.

Thank you for the lovely feedback; so glad you had an enjoyable Christmas and that the Yellow House was able to host your family - I sincerely hope you will return again next year! Thanks for the comments on the glasses, bowl and bath plug we will attend to those soon. Property Owner

  • "This is the third time I have stayed at the Yellow House whilst visiting family in the area."

It is a lovely house, clean , comfortable and homely ,as always. However, on this occasion there was a major issue. On arrival at the house I found that the key safe number I was given did not work. After phoning Sykes I eventually spoke to someone who initially said that they could not help me as I did not have my booking reference number. They eventually checked the records and found that the key safe number had been changed, and I had not been notified of it, a verbal apology was made and I was given the correct code. I do not know where the fault lies, but you surely will. It was a very distressing start to my holiday, and I would like this feedback to be seen as a formal complaint

Thank you for this comment and I am really sorry that you had such a distressing start to your holiday. The Sykes booking system should generate an e-mail to all future bookings when the key-code is changed, I will investigate with Sykes to see why this did not happen. I sincerely hope this will not put you off returning as we really appreciate your repeat booking custom. UPDATE: I have raised this with Sykes who have acknowledged that the auto-generated e-mail did not work, they have raised with their software team to resolve. I understand they have contacted you directly to resolve your complaint. Hope to have you back as a guest again soon. Property Owner

  • "We were lucky to find a space right in front of the door to park our car and left it there for the week."

The longstay carpark is about a 7 minute walk away The house is well decorated and has attractive artwork, good TV and comfortable sofas. The quality of the furnishings is good. The house was very clean. We did have a problem with the twin room door as the latch is not aligned correctly leading to my partner getting locked in and unable to get out to go to the loo at 3am. I banged the door open from the otherside and he did not close it again. He was in a right state about it. This does need adjustment. Lack of a washing machine caused a problem after his flask of tea leaked all over his jacket. I managed to wash it in the bath, the laundrette was closed for several days but shuts at 2pm which would have been too late for us, would not be too keen to use it anyway on a good quality linen jacket. Mention this as owner has suggested this as a way of washing clothes. We were unlucky but think that this incident is an example of the need for a machine in a holiday let. It's a good size kitchen with lots of empty cupboards so think it was an oversight by the owners. Could one be put in under the hob? Kitchen is otherwise well equipped. Maybe also provide a masher and kitchen scales Back courtyard is a suntrap with good table and parasol. Great to have reading area with lots of books. Made good use of the OS map. Forgot to buy one so was very pleased to find this. We were very lucky with the weather, so a bit hot under the duvets. Good shower plenty of room in the bathroom. Good to have two sets of keys. Overall a very nice house well located for the centre, beach and railway station.

Thank you for your feedback and I am sorry that you had an issue with the latch on the door to the twin room. We will look to see whether this can be adjusted, and should something like this occur in the future then you can call the local contact (details in the instructions) and they will resolve the issue. Regarding the unfortunate spilling of tea on a jacket -- the listing shows that we don't have a washing machine -- most of our guests would rather have a dishwasher (which we do have) and although the kitchen is a good size there is no way to install a washing machine and a dishwasher without completely refitting the units. Although nobody else has requested a masher or kitchen scales we will look to provide these in the near future. Thank you for the rest of your comments which I note are very positive and recognise the hard work that we, and our Dawlish caretaking team, put into making this a great place for a holiday. UPDATE: the bedroom door has been adjusted so there is no danger of it sticking and a masher and kitchen scales have been provided. Property Owner

Clean, comfortable and well maintained. In a great location for getting out and about in the area without using the car. Particularly impressed with the owners quick response to a problem we had using the gas hob. Just a case of not being familiar with it. But he couldn’t have been more helpful. Thank you.

Thank you for the lovely feedback and glad I could help with the gas hob and how to reset the safety cut-off switch. Glad you enjoyed your stay and I hope you will be able to return again soon. Property Owner

But overall we had a lovely stay. It’s located in a great part of the town. With local amenities on the doorstep. Parking is first come first served, but we managed to park close. We didn’t use the car all week. For visiting further afield the trains are easy and convenient. I would stay here again if I was going to Dawlish.

Many thanks for your feedback and apologies that you encountered an issue with the banister; it has now been made more secure. If you should have an issue during your stay in the future please get in touch (local contact details available via Sykes and in the property guide book) and we will try to resolve straight away. We are very glad that you enjoyed Dawlish and the local area and made good use of the trains. Hope you will stay again soon. Property Owner

The weather was very hot but The Yellow House was so cool and comfortable, it was like home from home. We had everything we needed during our stay, although a washing machine would have been handy. All in all, we would thoroughly recommend this cottage.

Thank you so much for the lovely feedback, and so glad that you enjoyed your stay, I hope we will be able to welcome you back again soon. Thanks for the suggestion about the washing machine; we have looked at putting one in but it would mean replacing the dishwasher or remodelling the kitchen so sadly we won't be able to install one at the moment. If you do need urgent washing during your stay there is a launderette (offering a service wash on Thursday and Friday) in Albert Street which is about a three minute walk from The Yellow House. • "Great location for a family holiday."

Outside patio space with family dinner table and parasol was perfect. We liked the reading nook at the top of the stairs too. Comfortable beds. Lots to do within walking distance so we parked our car up for most of the week. £30 for a week . Dawlish and beach at Dawlish warren were fab. We caught train to Exeter, pub lunch in teighmouth, ferry from Starcross to Exmouth, drive out to Bramwich and lunch at RockFish. Perfect sunny weather. Thank you.

Thank you for this lovely feedback and we are delighted that you enjoyed The Yellow House, Dawlish and the surrounding area as much as we do. Now that the Dawlish Sea Wall is open again, after a three year programme to make it more resilient to high tides, it is possible to walk to Dawlish Warren from Coryton Cove along a level path next to the sea which makes a lovely accessible stroll with beaches all along the way. Hope you will come back to Dawlish in the future. Property Owner

  • "The holiday cottage had everything you need for a stay away from home, and would have been fine if the weather hadn't been so awful which meant that we had to spend more time in the cottage."

The sofas weren't very comfortable and the bed was too firm. However, my biggest disappointment is that nobody contacted us ahead of our holiday to advise that most of the streets surrounding the property were closed and diversions were in place due to road works and gas works. Parking was very difficult and we had no opportunity to park outside the property at any point during our stay and had to pay for parking every day of our break. All in all, I would not stay at this property again.

We are very sorry that you did not enjoy your break in Dawlish due to the weather and temporary local roadworks. Unfortunately it is not practical for us to contact guests about roadworks as they are, by their nature, temporary and are likely to move to different positions even during the course of a week's stay. We would welcome you back in better weather and I am sure you will then appreciate just how wonderful it is to spend time in Dawlish and the beautiful South Devon coast. Property Owner

Moving upstairs, there is a bathroom with both bath and walk-in shower, so choose to take a long soak or get a quick shower to wash those sandy feet after a day at the beach, before relaxing in the armchair on the landing with a selection of books for some quiet time.

Slightly further afield is the cathedral city of Exeter with its medieval bridge, choice of museums and art galleries, and eateries looking over the River Exe, as well as the Crealy Theme Park and Resort on the outskirts which is a worth while day out, especially for the children.

Also in driving distance or by seasonal ferry from Starcross, is the popular is the popular seaside resort of Exmouth, with its boat tours, fishing opportunities, the historical Pirate Cove, the multiple breathtaking beaches and the remarkable marina.
