  • "First class accommodation and site, could not fault the lodge at all, and had everything you could possibly want."

It was clean, tidy, warm and in a great location. The hot tub was a lovely added bonus. Good location for accessing all the local amenities.

  • "The lodge was very comfortable and catered for all our needs."

The only downside to our stay was that the boiler stopped working on the second night, which meant that there was no hot water. This spoilt our experience as we couldn’t shower after using the hot tub. This prevented us from using the hot tub. Also the central heating didn’t work. Maintenance were able to ‘fix’ the boiler in the morning. So we had a whole evening and night without hot water or heatings. However once it was fixed we felt that the lodge continued to struggle to heat up. The hoover wasn’t working, and it would benefit other lodgers if there was a mop and bucket on site to use after being in the hot tub and in the shower area.

  • "I read other reviews before we stayed and generally what I read is true."

It's a nice lodge, good spot on the park, it's snug, the beds are comfy, the facilities in the lodge and on the site are decent and we enjoyed our stay. There were no functional issues with anything at all in terms of the lodge, everything was fine. But....it suffers from a lack of personal touch and is showing signs of age and some of the stuff could easily be sorted. Little things like the hot tub buttons have worn away so you can't see which button does what. We only figured out there was a light under water on the last day. The decking furniture is going rusty, seat pads are like super thin. Easily sorted things! The outside fencing and flooring is starting to go rotten in places too, particularly the gate and the decking around the hot tub. And the actual lodge external walls have had paint layered on top of paint to cover where it's blistered which makes it look a bit of a mess. Not big deals and none of it affected our holiday at all but when you've paid over £1k for a week you want a little bit of luxury and I didn't feel like it had that. Some of the kitchen utensils in the drawers were dirty and there were some dirty pots in the dishwater too when we arrived. That's no fault of the owners, it's entirely down to the previous guest who was too lazy to clean them. But again, it's not what you want. Maybe it's to be expected when a 3rd party company is managing things. They'll be using minimum wage cleaners who've got 10 lodges to clean in 2 hours so all you get is a superficial cat lick. I can put up with that when I book a Sun £9.50 a day break at a Haven Park in Scarborough but not when you're on a 5* luxury establishment. Things like a dirty sponge scourer and a plastic food label left on the decking. Just silly careless stuff! I saw the owners responded to a similar review by saying they stay regularly and they take a pride in it. I have sympathy with them. I can't imagine the costs of maintaining a lodge on a park like Limefitt and the last thing you want to do when you visit yourself is spend all your time painting and decorating but it really needs a spruce up. It probably reads like I wouldn't recommend this lodge but I would. It's in a great spot and we did have a good time. It just needs a bit of TLC. That's all! It wouldn't take much to make it perfect. Just a word about the site. There's a lovely Bar/Restaurant but they kept closing early because they said it was quiet. Even Saturday night they called time at 9pm which was frustrating. That's really bad, short term thinking. We just didn't bother going in after the 4th night because of it so they've pretty much done themselves over there! Self fulfilling prophecy. How do you expect to be busy if you keep randomly closing early?

***OWNER UPDATE*** Thank you for your review, and we have reflected on your comments. After a busy season, we have now managed to get to the lodge, and address the issues raised. We use the lodge ourselves, and do try to keep on top of any issues that might arise. We were happy to hear that the issues that you raised appear to be mostly cosmetic, and did not detract from your stay. We have spoken with the housekeeping supervisor regarding the cleaning issues, which will be addressed. The hot tub control panel has now been restored to its former glory, and a loose board on the decking has been resecured. We have also replaced the couches in the living room with brand new ones, as they were showing signs of wear and tear. We have never had any comments made regarding the exterior paint before, and feel that saying it looked a mess is a little harsh..the pictures on the website are current, and an accurate reflection of the condition of the lodge. That being said, any exterior paintwork maintenance is very much weather dependant, and any remedial work is carried out on an ongoing basis. Thank you for your custom, and review. We have responded to reassure guests old and new, that we take care of our lodge, and care about our guests experience. We try, to the best of our ability, to keep on top of any issues that might arise, and do our best to remedy them if they do. Many Thanks Property Owner

  • "Striding Edge is a really lovely lodge with nice decor, amenities and plenty of storage."

The hot tub was great for aching legs after lots of exploring too. The site itself is so peaceful and great location, and lovely helpful staff in reception and at The Haybarn Inn (we were having a bbq on a Sunday and forgot ketchup - shop shut and food well on the way to being cooked - pub to the rescue!). We also had an issue with the entry fob and boiler during our stay but these were both dealt with quickly by on site staff. A fantastic week in a fantastic lodge - the only thing which could be improved would be the mattresses, which are very soft - but we are already looking at when we can return. Thank you!

Thank you for your lovely review! Glad to hear that any issues you had were quickly resolved, and that you would like to return to Striding Edge. The mattress issue is very individual, however I will keep it in mind when they are replaced. Hope to see you again soon! Property Owner

  • "The pans and the cupboard shelf they were stored in was dirty and greasy we had to clean two pans before we could use them."

Towels were of a poor quality very small didn’t wrap around the body and smelt of damp. We were cold on Saturday and Sunday afternoon even after using the small heater provided and we couldn’t override the heating and then it stayed on overnight on Sunday. The Wi-Fi wasn’t stable it changed to Parkdean resorts and not Limefitt park and three of our devices advised us not to use it. The hot tub area hadn’t been cleaned properly as there was an hairclip belonging to someone else left behind along with a cork. The settees would benefit from cushions to make it more comfortable. The dining table for four adults was too small. All the cupboards in the kitchen were extremely difficult to open. Saying all that We had a fabulous weekend in a beautiful park and area. Beds were comfy and we loved the hot tub.

Thank you for taking the time to reply to the feedback. We are sorry to read of the problems you encountered, if we had been informed during your stay we would have tried to rectify this for you. We are glad that it didn't impact the rest of your stay and that you were able to enjoy the benefits of the hot tub. ++OWNER UPDATE++ Thank you for staying at our lodge. I feel I should clarify a few points regarding this review. We provide a freshly laundered standard bath towel and hand towel per person…and additionally provide 4 large bath sheets for the hot tub. Apologies if you thought they smelled damp, this is very unusual. There is an electric wall mounted fire in the lodge in addition to the small heater. The boiler and heating system is a year old, and was working perfectly when we arrived for the weekend 4 days after you left. The Wi-Fi is provided by Parkdean Resorts…we have no control over it… The hot tub has fresh water for every arrival, and is serviced twice a day, apologies for the missed cork and hair grip. We had cushions on the settee, however they had to be removed to aid cleaning due to covid, and we haven’t replaced them so far. The table is as big as we can fit into the space available…this is the first complaint we have received about it. The kitchen was stripped out and completely refitted in Feb 2021, so I don’t understand how the cupboards were difficult to open. The dirty pots were clearly an oversight, possibly not cleaned properly in the dishwasher…(filters cleared regularly) We are private owners, not Parkdean Resorts, and along with our housekeeper do our best to keep the lodge as nice as we can. We use the lodge ourselves regularly, we were down the weekend after you, my parents the weekend before, and try to preempt any issues. We also replace/repair anything that requires it. I am so glad that you had a lovely holiday despite the issues. As much as I respect your opinion, previous reviewers have commented on how nice and fresh the lodge was, and given us great reviews. I’m sorry you didn’t have that experience. However, we all know that you are only as good as your last review, so this is the reason I felt I had to respond. You have given a rating of 50% (our first in 9 years) which would suggest the lodge is uncared for. I as the owner, have to clarify for the benefit of future renters that this is not the case. The lodge is very much cared for and enjoyed not only by us, our family, and hopefully by customers old and new. I have taken your comments on board, and I thank you for your custom. Property Owner

This is a lovely holiday Lodge, in a quiet and beautiful setting. Lodge is very comfortable &nicely laid out-hot tub privately tucked away. En-suite with double was great as was TV in each of the rooms-although we did tell our son we weren't there to watch TV!! Only downside was that we couldn't get Netflix as Internet v.poor. U did warn that it is not the responsibility of the Lodge so I was warned-but a bit disappointed as we did have 1 pretty wet day! The "site facilities"-Haybarn Inn...was nice&Mandy was a lovely, polite, very hard worker-other staff also polite and nice. Reception shop-lovely helpful man serving-v.limited stock-but also expected this. Grounds-lovely spaces-small chdns area, football nets and tennis net but not much really to do on-site-didnt try Pony trekking-BUT we also didn't choose the Lodge for site facilities-we chose it because it did look and was really nice-so not the Lodges fault at all! All in all though...really have had a lovely time in the Lodge -Thank u so much!

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed your time at Striding Edge Lodge. We are sorry to hear that you experienced issues with the WIFI. Thank you for your valued feedback. We are glad you enjoyed your stay in the English Lakes. Dust on the lights in the living room, mirror in the main bedroom and the shower tray in the on-suite needed a bit more care when cleaning it. The decking was very slippery when you came out of the main door and the railing needs replacing as a few of the posts/woodwork is rotting. Shame really as the beds are really comfy!

Thank you for the review, Mr Armas and we are sorry to hear you had some cleaning concerns. • "The site is lovely and peaceful and a convenient place to use as a base to explore further afield."

The lodge itself is possibly one of the best equipped lodges we've ever stayed in; it really has everything you need. Not overly impressed with the maintenance team though. The outside light had a dodgy sensor which meant we were in semi-darkness most of the time outside in the evening and it was way too hot to sit inside the lodge. Added to this was the fact that the hot tub light was also broken so outside lighting was poor. The main bathroom light also stopped working so there was no way to use this room once it was dark without leaving the door wide open. Despite reporting all this nothing was fixed. The maintenance team really need to improve their customer service to match the quality of the lodge itself.

Thank you for your feedback and we are delighted to hear of how much you enjoyed your stay. We are sorry to hear you had a few maintenance issues and these were not resolved during your stay. We shall discuss this with our maintenance team further and please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused. The gate code left in the lodge was 2 months out of date and related to April. I also would have thought the hottub would have been cleaned during our stay.

Thank you for the review and we are sorry to hear a few things were not to your satisfaction. Although the barrier code is left in the lodge for your reference we also send out the code in your arrival information, apologies for any confusion. We shall remind the housekeeper to update the code in the lodge. Hot tubs are cleaned and have a full water change on every changeover day. Your tub was cleaned on the Friday morning of your arrival and again three days later on your departure. The tubs are also checked twice daily during a guests stay by the hot tub contractor. Whilst we note you were disappointed with the cleanliness of the lodge, it is not been made clear your reasons why. Should you wish to discuss this further please do get in contact. I was told some should've been left in a welcome pack (didn't get one) and to go buy my own! We don't have a dishwasher at home so to buy a box wasn't viable and we were left unable to use the dishwasher provided during our stay. Not happy with the attitude - you say you want our stay to be comfortable and enjoyable but you can't even put a simple thing like this right. • "Wow what can we say?"

This was our 7th consecutive stay at Limefitt Park and our 1st time in Striding Edge Lodge. We always stayed in the Beckside area of the park but this year fancied a change and chose Striding Edge and we weren't disappointed. The lodge was immaculate on arrival and a real home from home. It had everything we needed and more. We had our 18month old with us and found the lodge to be warm and cosy as well as spacious. The fridge and freezer are of good size and it was helpful having the family bathroom as well as the en suite. We didn't feel over looked at all and we really enjoyed the hot tub in the evenings! There are lovely views from the lodge of Troutbeck Village and surrounding fells. The weather wasn't great this year but this didn't stop us. Thank you to Lake District Lodge Holidays for the fantastic, easy and pleasant booking process and to the lodge owners for providing us with a fantastic lodge to which we had an amazing much needed relaxing holiday in. We can't wait to return to Striding Edge for 2 weeks next year! What did you enjoy most about your stay? The hot tub and cosiness of the lodge. What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? Loughrigg Tarn is a beautiful circular walk. Lovely picnic place although parking is limited. It is a child friendly walk however there is a minor road section but you could easily turn around and walk back the way you came if you didnt want to include the road.

  • "We have stayed here twice now and have yet to be disappointed!"

We visited exactly a year ago and fell in love with the location and comfort of the lodge. It has everything you need and is very private. The sleeping arrangements are great with two young children and the openness of the lodge means you really get some quality family time. We only encountered one very small issue which was dealt with within 15 minutes. Excellent customer service from LDLH, cannot be faulted. Limefitt Park is quiet and has wonderful surroundings and there is always something to look at - see if you can find the Orange Sheep in the farmers fields on the hills! We would recommend visiting Rydal Lake with it's own set of caves. The walk to Orrest Head is worth it for panoramic views - look out for the Gruffalo in the woods! Another lovely stay, always sad to leave! Will be back again next year. What did you enjoy most about your stay? Quietness and Privacy What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? Rydal Lake

  • "Fantastic stay at Striding Edge Lodge."

Lodge was well equipped and we found the beds extremely comfortable. Hot tub is very private and was maintained every day. We have stayed at Limefitt many times before and always found it very peaceful. Haybarn has excellent service and all our meals there were very good. If your looking for a lively, noisy holiday this is not for you. If you want peace, quiet and relaxation in beautiful surroundings then would thoroughly recommend Striding Edge Lodge and Limefitt. Have no problem recommending Lake District Lodge Holidays, we have always found their service excellent, great customer service and attention to detail. Rydal cave is a lovely day out, a fair walk but not too challenging. The children had a morning making chocolate at the Coco Bean chocolate shop Hawkshead and they loved it! Would also recommend the Watermill at Ings for food and their collection of beers from their own micro brewery. A big Thank you to the Lodge owners and Lake District Lodge holidays for one of the best holidays we have ever had in the Lake District. What did you enjoy most about your stay? Total relaxation. From arriving at the lodge it looked more amazing than the photos could do justice with. We had everything and more than we needed for our stay, the lodge was so clean and well kept and was spacious but also cosy at the same time. We loved the hot tub that was an added bonus to end each of our days. I would highly recommend to stay here and we are already going to book our next stay. What did you enjoy most about your stay? • "When we arrived booking in was easy."

The main bedroom had a hole in the wall covered up by a poster. When our water did not work for second time. My Husband went to reception who said the maintenance team had been and if we needed any more information we would have to phone them ourselves. This is difficult as there was no mobile phone signal It was suggested to my husband he uses the pay phone outside. Don't see why we should of had to do this. I felt if we had booked out lodge with parkdean themselves more would of been done to help. I work as a receptionist my self. and telling the customer to use a pay phone when she could of helped I found poor. • "We really enjoyed our stay at Striding Edge (sorry for the late review!"

) We came as a family of 4 with 2 children aged 5 and 2 1/2. It was so nice to get away all together, into the beautiful surroundings of the Lake District. The cabin is so private and is in a really great spot. It was quiet and secluded. The cabin is decorated really nicely, is comfortable and practical. Beds were comfy too! We liked the open plan of the kitchen, dining and sitting room. Great to be altogether and not in seperate rooms. The hot tub was amazing. Even the kids enjoyed it! Our only suggestion would be for some soft wired lighting outside near the hot tub (as we both took some books to read but as it was dark we had to talk to each other instead! ha!) However, we really enjoyed sitting in the hot tub under the stars, we got 2 clear nights and the views were breathtaking. We've never seen so many stars. The wi-fi worked well for us, however our phone signal was poor to none. This was refreshing though and it was nice not to be bothered by our phones! We had a drink in the on-site pub which was clean and had lovely service. They also had several games for kids such as wooden building blocks, card games, connect 4 etc. The on-site park is also good, and the views of the mountains from it are fantastic. We spent a lot of time in Bowness and Ambleside, but also visited Brockhole, Aira Force Waterfall and Pooley Bridge (Fabulous Gin Shop called Chesnut House - recommended!!) Great service from Lake District Holidays too. Really enjoyed our stay here. Much needed quality family time together. What did you enjoy most about your stay? • "We stayed in Striding Edge for a week."

One of the group had a disability and the ramp was one of the reasons for choosing this lodge. It was very comfortable with everything one would need. We didn't use the hot tub on this occasion but noticed that it was checked regularly. It is in a lovely location with lots of places within short driving distance. We discovered a book in the cupboard titled "Miles without Stiles" towards the end of our stay and wished we had found it sooner, as it features lots of walks suitable for mobility scooters, pushchairs etc. and would have loved to have done a few of those. We wanted to go to Bowness but parking was impossible, within a reasonable distance to town. Would love to go back at some point as there is so much more we want to do and see, and this lodge would be our first choice. What did you enjoy most about your stay? Peace and tranquility, home comforts What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? Visiting Windermere

New sofas were a lovely surprise. The hot tub really does make this special. I'd be back again without a doubt it would just be great if there was a mini market on site rather than a few bits in the office shop. That's all. Loved it. What did you enjoy most about your stay? • "We loved the location and lodge from the moment we got there."

The site was well laid out to ensure as much privacy from others as possible and the lodge had everything we could have wanted in it. No expense has been spared to make it a comfortable home from home. The addition of the hot tub was genius, and has resulted in us considering having one ourselves. I suppose the only negative was that a group of young lads took the lodge a bit further up, and did make a nuisance of themselves on 2 evenings - playing loud, throbbing music, shrieking, and flicking the lights on and off in their lodge. I did call out to them once to keep the noise down but they ignored me. They went out one night and got back at 1am and still made noise. Apart from that though, it was a wonderful holiday. What did you enjoy most about your stay? Hot tub, having full sized everything in the lodge and the cleanliness of it all What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? Well, we did the Predator experience and that was fantastic........but obviously that might not be everyone's cup of tea!

  • "We stayed at Striding Edge Lodge in Limefitt Park over Easter for two weeks."

The location of the lodge is really good with plenty of privacy on the deck. The hot tub is fabulous, and checked regularly by the very helpful local hot tub man!! The lodge itself is family friendly and very well equipped. It was clean and big enough for a small family (only 3 of us). Limefitt is an excellent site in one of the most beautiful part of the lakes. We walked every day in different parts of the national park. The staff on site are excellent, and Lake district lodge holidays as efficient as ever. The play area has had a complete makeover and is now really really good. Our son loved it. What did you enjoy most about your stay? The hot tub at Striding Edge Lodge is brilliant after a full day walking on the fells. What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? Go to Aira Force on the Ullswater Steamer and walk back the 3 miles to Glenridding on the new track. Finish with a drink in the newly refurbished bar at the Inn on The Lake.

  • "I'd love to give this the maximum stars and best review as my girlfriend and I had a wonderful stay there, however, it wasn't perfect."

I'll start with the bad points. We both found the double bed extremely firm and woke up each morning with a saw back. Although I know the sofa is being replaced, the leather which was falling off was slightly irritating. Very miner points; blinds in main bathroom were broke and need fixed and some of the hinges on the cupboard doors need tightened. Now the good parts. This log cabin is situated in the most idyllic, quiet place just a few miles out of Windermere and boweness. The check in process was easy and simple, What did you enjoy most about your stay? • "I decided to treat my boyfriend to a weekend away for his 40th and I couldn't have chosen a better lodge."

We arrived at 3pm on Friday 7th October (staying 3 nights), I was over the moon with the location, the cleanliness, how comfy it was and just how much it was like home from home. I couldn't fault the lodge at all. It was spotless, had everything we needed to hand including towels and all kitchen utensils. I selected this lodge due to the locating, the pictures when viewing on line and the main reason because it had a hot tub. We were lucky with the weather and were able to make use of the hot tub, which was very private and very relaxing. This is certainly a 5 star lodge and great value for money. It was well signed posted and I felt it was in a great location to be able to go to Windermere, Ambleside, Grassmere or Keswick etc. I would and have already recommended this lodge to my family and friends and will certainly be returning. This lodge is a credit to the owners and they have really made it very homely. What did you enjoy most about your stay? Hot tub, location and how clean / homely the lodge is. Felt I was really able to just switch off and relax What one experience (e.g attraction, walk, day out) would you recommend for our future guests? • "When we arrived at striding edge lodge, the bath and the toilet in the bathroom and the shower in the en-suit weren't cleaned properly."

Some of the utensils in the kitchen were dirty, along with the oven trays and bench tops. I had to clean everything on arrival before using anything, which was very frustrating. In the lounge the coffee table and the TV had sticky finger marks all over it. The lounge also needed a good vacuum. The sofa was very worn and needs renewing If the lodge had been cleaned properly before we arrived, everything would have been ok, the lodge was ok, it wasn't the best we've stayed in, but it was comfortable, but they need to change their cleaners. The park it's self was great, loved the location, the park was good for the kids and it was lovely that the kids could go splashing in the river. What did you enjoy most about your stay? • "We stayed at Striding Edge at the end of December."

This was our second stay and it didn't disappoint. Whilst we have become accustomed to the luxury and home comforts of Striding Edge, on this occasion we found the owners had added a number of improvements including a new larger TV in the living room and TVs in all rooms. However the main addition of Hotub is a luxury which cannot be overlooked. There was nothing better than plunging into the hotub on a cold winters night after a day of walking. We love Striding Edge and have already booked our 3rd stay. We have recommended to many friends.

Striding edge was great with all the home comforts, set in beautiful surroundings and located close to all the leisure activities that the area has to offer. The booking, administration etc. was simple, clear and very effecient. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so enjoyable. Kind Regards, Ian & Alison.

The spacious veranda felt very private, and the view was stunning. We would stay here again, in the future.

  • "We had a well needed break following a hectic few months."

Limefitt Park and Striding Edge was just perfect for this. Furthermore being located in Troutbeck enabled us to travel quite easily to both quite peaceful locations such as Kirkstone, Hill Top, Townend as well as the busier Bowness, Ambleside etc. We crammed in a lot in 3 days and look forward to our next visit. Limefitt is very well run and is a peaceful location with great facilities. I would strongly recommend this lodge park to anyone and have done so to many of our friends. Thanks for a lovely stay. p.s. Listening to a night owl late at night in bed was remarkable as it was the only sound to be heard.....quite serenity...

  • "We had a great stay at Striding Edge lodge."

This was our first visit to the Lake District and we are so glad we chose to stay here. The Lodge was comfortable and cosy with a great outdoor area. We had all the amenities we needed in the kitchen and it really felt like a home from home. We were also really impressed with Limefitt Park as a whole. Great location for exploring the local area, friendly staff and good onsite pub which was very accommodating to our 3 year old. I'm so glad we chose to spend my birthday/ Mothers Day weekend here and we are already looking into returning for our wedding anniversary in September. (The only thing to maybe point out to the owners is that we took 4 DVD's to keep our wee one entertained at night and none of them worked in the player. It said bad disc when we tried. Not a big deal as we had a laptop with us and she only watched them for an hour or so but just thought they might want to check the player) Pamela Orton What did you enjoy most about your stay?
