An ideal, warm and very cosy hideaway for a couple to escape the humdrum of suburban life. Lots of good walking near by, close to bus routes and not far from Keswick with a well stocked shop in the nearby village of Braithwaite for all your supplies. We will definatley be back for a fourth visit.

  • "It is listed as a property for 1-2 people, but the bedroom ceiling slopes both sides and if someone was sleeping on the right hand side of the bed they would need to bend so as not to band their head on the ceiling."

I am only 5 feet tall and was on my own so no problem by sleeping on the left hand side. The owners were very kind and helpful.

  • "The cottage is nice, small but adequate."

There is a lack of cooking utensils. We bought some glasses and left them there as there weren’t any decent ones. I would stay again at half the price, the cost was pretty extortionate for what you get even though the views are amazing (if you’re lucky enough to get sunshine which we weren’t!) However we did enjoy our stay there. I just think maybe the owners are taking advantage of people on staycations with the price.

First of all I would like to say how courteous, knowledgable and welcoming the young man at Sykescottages was who helped me find this short break They say that size doesn’t matter and in the case of Wren’s Nest that is absolutely true This little gem has everything you need for a self catering break It is warm and comfortable with generous heating , very much appreciated after trekking the mountains all day It is situated in Thornthwaite on a hillside with superb views of Skiddaw but within easy reach of Keswick This was our first visit to Wren’s Nest and I hope it won’t be the last

  • "The owner Mrs Illman was really friendly."

The cottage felt like a home from home and is a brilliant location to explore the Lakes. There are walks straight from the cottage so no need to take the motorcycle, bike or car if you don’t want to. The shower is really excellent and cooking facilities are great. Even though the weather was rainy it’s worth a trip as the mountains are still beautiful. Love the Lakes anyway and will definitely book Wren’s Nest again.
