Hi, my wife and I are looking to get back to walking. We are looking for some nice and easy low level walks to start off with. We enjoy forest walks, and maybe around 5 to 7 miles round trip. Ideally in the west Cumbria area, but anywhere in cumbria would be fine. Regards, Billy

That's a bit of an odd combination given the walks that we have, most of which are not low level. We tend to talk walkers up onto the fells. But here's some possibilities:

  • Our Ennerdale Water walk (7.3 miles, 85m ascent) is low level (although there's a bit of a scramble at Anglers' Crag, see step 2) and the section of the north side is wooded.

  • For more of a proper woodland walk Carron Crag (3.9 miles, 245m of ascent) takes you to the highest point in Grizedale Forest and follows the Forestry Commission's marker posts making navigation straightforward.

  • Our Whinlatter walk (4 miles, 280m ascent) starts and ends in woodland and is an excellent winter walk.

Thanks very much for the information, we are going to get these walks done in the next couple of weeks. Regards Billy
