Starting the day with a lovely drive through the quiet lanes on the Eastern edge of the Northern fells I made my way through Mungrisdale and Mosedale before parking up just before the ford on the way to Calebreck.

The start of the walk was delayed by an unfortunate heavy shower and then even further when I had to retrace my steps to retrieve the walking pole I'd left in the car. The pole was needed as the start of the walk was somewhat boggy before it dried up as I started the steepish ascent of Carrock Fell.

Thankfully I stayed dry however a shower in the valley revealed a fantastic full rainbow.

I eventually reached the top of Carrock Fell and enjoyed the seldom seen views of the back of Blencathra and Skiddaw ranges.

I headed West into the boggy dip below Carrock Fell heading off towards High Pike. Despite the boggy conditions I made good progress.

Looking back towards Carrock Fell from the bog....

The path towards High Pike...

Reaching High Pike I was surprised to find one of the shelters occupied, thankfully there is another shelter just to the North where I stopped for lunch and was joined by a fellow walker, a busy day on the less frequented Northern Fells.

The return to the car was via good, gently descending paths with Carrock Beck babbling away to my right.
