Having climbed Barrow and Stile End on separate occasions, both times I'd suggested carrying on to Outerside and both times been denied (once by grumpy teenagers and once by heavy mist). Being the master of my own destiny for once I decided to tick this one off.
I took the familiar route through Braithwaite village, passing the shop, starting up the steep lane before emerging onto the grassy hillside. In yet more Autumn sunshine I had the bulk of Barrow to my left, Causey PIke revealing itself in the gap between Barrow and Stile End with the elusive Outerside to my right in the distance.
There's a real network of paths here and I took the route that skirts the Norther flank of Stile End rather than going straight up the steep ascent over the top of it! Unsurprisingly given its name 'Low Moss' was fairly boggy but just about passable.
The climb straight up the nose of Outerside was a little scrambly needing hands in places but was great fun. The climb was rewarded with views back over Stile End and Barrow to Derwent Water.
Looking back to Outerside from the descent with Low Moss and Grizedale Pike behind.
