During the downtime between Christmas and the New Year I decided to get some walking in. I was around the Ambleside area for a couple of days so thought I'd have a look up Wansfell as I've never been up that way. I ended up kind of combining the Wansfell, and Wansfell Pike walk and the Wansfell Pike, Troutbeck, and Skelghyll Wood walk, though my route back from Troutbeck was slightly different.

Weather was dreich throughout, with not too much of a view unfortunately. This is actually why I circled back up to Wansfell Pike on the way back - on the off chance that the cloud may lift and I'd actually get to see something interesting!

The route is as easy as they come, and was packed with families walking it yesterday, though once you got away from Wansfell Pike it got a lot quieter. There's an interesting stile in to Nanny Lane that proved to be great fun with the two dogs - both had to be lifted over, which is no easy task with a rather large Labrador.

Coming back down in to Ambleside gave me a chance to take a look at Stock Ghyll Force. I've been to Ambleside a few times and had never really realised that it was hiding back there - definitely worth a look for anybody else who's made the same oversight.
