Gauging Stations Update

We have a "water levels" overlay in our GPS mapping app which shows you where various gauging stations, which record the water level in rivers, streams, and lakes, are located across Great Britain and lets you check the latest figures. This can be useful when planning walks, especially where you're going to have to cross a ford.

We've been doing some work in three areas. Firstly we've updated the popups for both England and Scotland to show the latest information available from the Environment Agency and SEPA respectively.

Secondly we've updated our list of gauging stations which has increased our totals from 1,901 to 2,437 in England, 348 to 374 in Scotland, and 200 to 276 in Wales, and as part of that we have removed some which were no longer operating.

Thirdly we've added 444 gauging stations in Ireland.

To see the result of all of this look at this image below of gauging stations in the Lake District. This is what you could see before our work this week but if you click on it you'll see the gauging stations which are there now. Click again to toggle back.

We are currently investigating to see if we can do anything similar for Northern Ireland.
