A pleasant walk up High Rigg returning via St John’s in the Vale. I started at High Bridge End crossing the A591 at the bridge and then following the path up through the trees to Wren Crag which had good views across the vale to Castle Rock. The path undulates along the ridge a bit with good views back to Thirlmere and ahead to Skiddaw and Blencathra. An unnamed tarn is passed and the summit sits at the end of the ridge. After admiring the views there was a short but steep drop down to St John’s Church. Had something to eat in the peaceful church grounds and then headed back via the valley footpath which gave me good views across to Wanthwaite Crags and behind me to Blencathra. Refreshments can be had at Low Bridge End farm before heading over the ridge and back to the start.
