Starting in Rosthwaite I stop off at St Andrews church before following the road to Stonethwaite for a short while. A footpath leads to the Cumbria Way but after a couple of hundred metres this is left and the slopes of Great Crag are climbed on a good but steep stepped path. I pay a visit to Dock Tarn and a Common Sandpiper keeps me company. From Dock Tarn the summit of Great Crag is found amongst several false summits. Great views all around here. A drop down leads to the path to Watendlath but I branch off this to climb up to Grange Fell, another top with several high points. From Grange Fell it’s downhill to Rosthwaite on a good path with lovely views of the green valley of Borrowdale and the surrounding high fells.
