A Lakeland classic. From the car park at New Dungeon Ghyll I head straight up Stickle Ghyll past dashing waterfalls to Stickle Tarn where I have a break admiring the views across the still waters to the towering crags of Pavey Ark and Harrison Stickle. A walk around the lake takes me to the path leading up the eastern flank of Pavey Ark to its summit. If you are more adventurous you might try ascending via Jacks Rake. From Pavey Ark the path skirted across the top of the col rising up to the top Harrison Stickle. The little mound of Pike of Stickle gradually gets bigger as I approach and looks like a molehill on the edge of the long drop down into Mickleden. A little scramble takes me to its perfect little top which has the most amazing views down Great Langdale and over to Bowfell and Crinkle Crags. Loft Crag is next and I laze about a bit on its summit admiring the views on what was a clear and sunny day. A long descent down the Thorn Crag path takes me back down to the start after a very satisfying day in the hills.
