Started this walk from the Woolpack Inn which does campervan night stops for £10. A short walk along the road past the youth hostel took me to Whahouse Bridge which crosses the River Esk. Left the road behind at the bridge and followed the river for a short while then through woodland to the open fell side. It was then a steady upward climb, at first through the bracken then weaving through the crags with a little climb on the rocks to the summit trig point. Airy and expansive views over to the Scafells and to the coastline. Returned through the fields past Penny Hill Farm, crossing Doctor Bridge and then back to the Woolpack.
