The forecast was for a passably grim day. In the event traversing Mill Gill Head to Watson Dodd was definitely Scott of the Antarctic stuff.
Going anticlockwise the Old Coach road is remarkably busy for a grim Sunday in January. The up and down bits were not too taxing. The weather was in parts quite testing. The worst of the bog is over Matterdale Common, but was still reasonably frozen.
