This is a fine walk from the head of Haweswater taking in six Wainwright’s. From the car park the lake shoreline path is followed to the Rigg where the ascent to Kidsty Pike starts. Having done the hard work to summit Kidsty Pike the reward is enjoying a fairly easy jaunt over the next three Wainwright’s (High Raise, Rampsgill Head and The Knott) as the ground stays over 2,000ft. This also gives great views over the Eastern Fells and beyond on a clear day. The Straits of Riggindale takes you onto High Street, the highest summit in the Far Eastern Fells. A grass path is followed until the Kentmere Horseshoe path is joined and this leads to the final summit of Mardale Ill Bell. Great views over Small Water and down the length of Haweswater from here. It’s down to the Nan Bield Pass and down a bit of a knee cruncher to Small Water and back to the start.
