A satisfying short walk up Wansfell from Troutbeck also taking in Wansfell Pike. From the village the path up Nanny Lane is taken. After a couple of kilometres there is a ladder stile which takes you onto the open fellside and the path is followed to the summit of Wansfell. From Wansfell, Wansfell Pike is seen along the ridge and this is followed all the way to its summit. The ground would have been a bit boggy here but when I did it a hard frost had frozen the ground solid. Great views along the length of Windermere from Wansfell Pike and of the fells all around, particularly the Coniston fells which had a covering of snow on them. The path to Troutbeck is taken which leads back onto Nanny Lane and into the village. The Old Post Office has been turned into a nice little cafe so I enjoyed coffee and cake on what was a cold winters day.
