From Hartsop village I took the track leading to Hayeswater reservoir but left it near the top to head uphill to summit Gray Crag. Lovely view across Hayeswater to The Knott from the ridge and over the Eastern Fells, the Helvellyn edges still retaining a bit of snow. The ridge leads fairly straightforwardly up to Thornthwaite Crag with its impressive nine foot summit column. Unfortunately on this day cloud covered the top which will mean a return visit for me. Dropped down to Threshthwaite Cove and then followed Pasture Beck back to Hartsop.
