My biggest day out in the fells and finally the sun was shining after a cold and wet week in Mid August!

I set off from our cottage in Dockray with the intention of certainly climbing Hart Side and the three Dodds and maybe doing the long(ish) diversion to Clough Head depending on how I felt.

It was very wet underfoot to start but once up Birkett Fell and Hart Side it was much drier. The flat yomp over to Stybarrow Dodd was honestly some of the best walking I've ever done, bouncing along the springy turf with my headphones on I could almost have broken into a run! After an early lunch on Stybarrow Dodd I was quickly over to Watsons Dodd and then a bit of a pull up to the high point of the week on Great Dodd.

Still feeling good I decided to trek over to the isolated Clough Head which didn't look too far away but probably was! However I made it without too much trouble to my 5th Wainwright for the day and fantastic views of Blencathra and Skiddaw.

The descent off Clough Head back to the old coach road was quite steep and indistinct in places. Once I found the coach road, access wasn't obvious and I had to hop over a makeshift gap in the fence. The walk back to Dockray was long but easy going on the gravel path.

The end of the road and about to start the fells at Dowthwaite Head

View of Sheffield Pike (I think) before starting up Hart Side

View of the Dodds from Hart Side

View from Watsons Dodd

Clough Head (not too far away) and the Northern Fells from Great Dodd

Skiddaw and Blencathra looking spectacular from Clough Head

Feeling somewhat tired after 12 miles I missed this bridge (somehow) and got my feet wet crossing the stream!

That looks like a cracking day out, and you got decent weather too.
