Situated at the head of Mardale, Longsleddale and Mosedale, it's more gentle grass slopes are less craggy than the rocky peaks of much of the Lake District hills.

It can be climbed from the car park at Mardale, at the end of Haweswater reservoir road, by way of Gatescarth pass.
